I'd be fairly surprised if Murphy isn't given another deal given he appears to be the first guy off the bench for Rachele, Keays and ANB.
A mature aged player who is now "first cab off the rank" is an easy delist. A player's days are numbered once they fall out of the best 22.

Matt Wright played 16 games in the year we delisted him, it does happen.
Yeah, and Rowe. I guess the additional context which I should have but didn't bother to add in my initial post is that it doesn't seem very likely we'll have the capital to chase another small this off-season, given our FRP is obviously on the table (with the NWM offer) and most of our later picks will be used to match a Stevens bid. We could always take a small in a rookie draft, but the chances of them producing the same output as Murph in their first year is probably quite low.

Murphy is ~adequate depth for three first-22 players. We could delist him. I obviously have no insight into that. I just think we'd be taking a risk, especially as it's unlikely we'll have the draft capital to replace him this year.

That looks fair enough.
But six delisted / retiring players looks a lot for a club like us

I could see Chris Burgess getting another rookie contract for a year, along with Crouch
I reckon burgess yes. When Tex goes if Welsh isn't ready, or doesn't improve, and similarly Turray, then Burgess is backup.

Crouch might want a trade if he can get over this injury, especially if we actually do expect he's not best 22. Which is debatable. His brother couldn't get over it though.

Looking at the Kozi deal and it got me thinking - the NWM deal is going to be a huge one. He's not going to sign for 3 or 4 years.
I suspect his manager is probably going to push for a 10 year, $15m deal.
It might be the signing that makes us a premiership winner, or it could be the one that wrecks the list management for a long time.

Huge gamble for whichever club he ends up at.

I think he's rolled gold personally. Can't miss.

Six is about par for the course. Don't forget that McAndrew has already been added to the list, and 3 of the proposed delistees are on the rookie list.

Last year we added Peatling, Cumming, ANB, Draper, Welsh and Turray. That's 6, so there's no reason to think the 2025 turnover would be significantly different.

I can see Crouch or Murphy being given another 12 months - but not both. My (strong) preference would be retaining Crouch.
Depends on his body, doesn't look good long term from outside the bubble

Brodie Smith
Chris Burgess
Harry Schoenberg

Hugh Bond
Kieran Strachan
Lachlan McAndrew
Lachlan Murphy*
Matt Crouch
Reilly O'Brien
Taylor Walker
Zac Taylor
I'd delete bond and keep crouch

We currently have 11 (+ Gallagher as a rookie B) out of contract at the end of the year. There's no way we make that many changes, which means you could guess at least 5-7 of the following are retained

Brodie Smith
Chris Burgess
Harry Schoenberg
Hugh Bond
Kieran Strachan
Lachlan McAndrew
Lachlan Murphy
Matt Crouch
Reilly O'Brien
Taylor Walker
Zac Taylor

Schoenberg was put to the rookie list, so he's likely gone. Bond was only given 1 year and they don't seem keen to actually play him, so wouldn't be surprised if he's gone. Strachan is gone too, Burgess is the classic "good SANFL player, not quite good enough for AFL" guy. That's 4 guys already you've cut.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see them give 1 year deals to Smith, Murphy, Crouch and even give Tex another year. Nicks would be terrified of losing that much experience in one off-season.
Definite Keepers
Taylor
Bond

Probable/Possible Keepers
O'Brien- depending on other ruck options
McAndrew
Crouch - perhaps
Tex - as development coach / smaller playing role
Schoenberg - depth

Goodbye
Strachan
Burgess
Murphy
Smith - thanks for the memories

I'd like Tex to go into commentary.

Having him, Kelly and Roo commentate all Port games next year would be sensational

My guess with how it'll go from here:

Smith, Tex Ret.
Schoenberg. Murphy, Strachan delisted
Taylor delisted and re-rookied.
ROB leaves on FA.
Crouch, Burgess, McAndrew, Bond retained.

Incoming:
Ruck traded in (probably someone stuck as a 2nd ruck looking for a full-time gig).

I can't see us letting both Tex and Burgess go due to how our depth looks like, and the tea-leaves say this is probably it for Tex. Taylor seems finished here, ditto Murphy, though I think we'll keep Taylor on the rookie list for one more year; we seem pretty hesitant to get rid of the deadwood from the 2020-2022 drafts. Honestly, I think the last 6 weeks, and Adelaide having two late-game fadeouts where they could barely win a contest probably strengthens Crouch's bargaining position here as we are not at the point where he's redundant, though it'll probably be a cheap contract. That said, removing a midfield rotation may change this situation, especially if it goes to Peatling or if Soligo kicks into gear. Smith will also retire, seems likely with him falling out of favour.

The one question mark I have for next year is McAndrews. I think it's safe to say he'll be on the list, but do we see him as a lead ruck? The numbers aren't bad in the SANFL, especially on the clearance side of things. That said, I think the most likely option is we end up trading in someone who's got stuck behind a gun ruck with the offer of a starter job.

Twomey mentioned on Gettable that there COULD be a few former top 10 picks looking for gametime

Would we be interested in any of Phillips, Tsatas, Erasmus or Jhye Clark ?

I think ROB will be our lead ruck next year unless we go down the Draper path which I'm not exactly on board with. Afraid Draper doesn't do it for me especially coming off a relatively serious injury.

Haven’t seen enough of Erasmus but he’d be intriguing to bring in - there is so much depth in the Freo midfield it’s not surprising he’s struggled to cement a place.

The others not so much.

Going to be a really disappointing trade/draft period. We’ll be making the barest of minimum list changes because we won’t want to lose any players with trade value and outside of our first, all we’ve got is 3 crappy 3rd rounders.

Welcome to a rebuilt list and competing around 4th to 10th for the next decade.

Club likes him though
I wish the club would stop this ''nice clubman'' rubbish

Does he have value is he knocking down the door consistently at AFL level - my view is he is tradeable and we dont lose too much impact

**** the club for liking him
