I get the whole have to pay more thing. I just think supporters have to be realistic to what he brings.
i am sort of the opposite. i know what he brings - a top 5 or 6 player for us- its more the cost of 1.4m becomes the benchmark for our top 5 players upon re-contracting (mainly end of 2029 with rash, curtin etc) may be asking for (and reasonably expecting)

last night he wasnt too bad. 18 possies and ranked 6th best for lions in a lions team off the boil currently. but most expect to come back hard when it counts in september

If Jordan Butts doesn’t accept the 4 year deal in front of him and decided to leave, we should have a serious look at Gold Coast key defender Charlie Ballard.

Ex Sturt jn, he would slot very nicely into our back 6 and is currently in the GCS VFL side.

If its only for 6 months I have no issue with it.

I doubt we'll take a pick TBH

The problem is that if we select someone for 6 months that puts pressure on the coaches to select him. Which would mean that if an opportunity arises, instead of selecting Dowling or Edwards who are starved of opportunity at the moment, we’d be giving games to a player who is unlikely to progress.

Selecting him would also signal that we put him ahead of Dowling or Edwards on the depth chart, which is concerning.

I wonder if ROB would be interested in Tasmania...

Good team man for a new club.

I would think it’s unlikely that Tasmania would be interested in him. He’ll be 32 by then and the game appears to be moving past a player of his type.

ROB cant run and jump really which makes him weak at centre bounces and he hasn’t got the versatility to play forward.

If they are in the market for a veteran ruck I would imagine Marshall, who comes out of contract at the end of 2027, would be higher up their list. Alternatively, if they’re looking at who might be on the way out, Ladhams also comes out of contract in 2027 and has been putting up some big numbers in the VFL. He’s also younger and more athletic.

I doubt Tasmania are going to be looking to take on an inflated contract that they’ll have to trade for, when those two names will probably be available as free agents.

Unless McAndrew or Murray get injured, I think Rob has played his last AFL game. Cannot see any other club being interested in him with a trade.
Shocking decision to give him that contract.

I just wonder if Toby Greene will leave, might not want to go to Victoria could be the sneakiest addition for us. Ontop of priority’s still.

It does look utterly ridiculous now.
Yep.

We have the luxury of hindsight, now. McAndrew has certainly taken the next step, which we weren't certain about.

The club has clearly seen the ruck as the least important position to spend draft picks and trade capital on. Ruck succession plan has been a back-burner thing.

With Thilly and recently Turray both having the ability to relief ruck. And McAndrew doing well against Xerri we seem to have a succession plan.

I have the feeling we all hope ROB is break glass option. I hope we skimped on $$ for that last year though.

I will always wonder if we would have caved into a 3 year deal if we knew the ruck rules were about to change.

Maybe we are in a position to look at a McAndrew understudy in case of injury or illness?
