Nobody but his physicians would know what's really going on with him.. but speculate away, it's entertaining at the very least :thumbsu:
in short you have no idea, but you dont want to commit to selecting ball who has less medical issues

Cool what i thought

He failed our medico and supposed 1 or 2 other clubs medical tests as well, don't even know why you'd bother discussing him because it isn't going to happen.

And yeah it is clearly the lack of facilities, if he came to Collingwood he would be miraculous cured, just look at Sean Rusling

So did Stevie J.. I said, risk vs reward.. Stevei J would have won us the 07 flag

They are two different cases and I'm sure they vary quite dramatically, without actually having been there for the test, I'd say it is probably just wiser to trust the blokes that specialise in that area. JWS could have failed every aspect of the test and could be no chance to play in the future, whereas SJ might have only failed by the slightest margins. Just because they are two cases of injured players from other clubs doesn't mean they are instantly directly comparable.
I'm sure they have taken the risk into account for the ultimate reward and they obviously believe the risk isn't worth it.

If you think the people in charge are making the right decisions in these cases, go down to the club and plead your case. Don't be surprised if no-one there really listens though :thumbsu:

Edit: You keep quoting that statement from the talent scout, but it is irrelevant if he can't get on the field. I'm sure someone will take a punt on him before us in the PSD anyway, if not, what does that say to you if 12/13 clubs are choosing to overlook him?

Exactly.. I'm just saving time because I get the impression as long as I keep replying to you it will go on forever with neither party really open to the others opinon or likely to be persuaded by their argument so don't take offence when I don't respond to you

That's fine, I rate him FWIW, I just trust the blokes at the club qualified to make these calls in these sort of cases.

In saying all this, if he nominated for the ND as was still around with our pick 62 (which I doubt), I'd certainly take him, he'd be a much better pick than we'd get from the nominated kids. The draft is very, very shallow and I'd expect any kid we get with pick 62 will find himself following Toby Thoolen's case very closely.

I just read this and it has some relevance here.

It is understood the Demons are set to initially offer a vice-captaincy role to Ball with a long-term view of him perhaps becoming captain when James McDonald retires. Demons football manager Chris Connolly told The Sunday Age yesterday that the club would be aggressive in trying to convince Ball to move to the Demons.

Richmond, who have the No.2 pick in the pre-season draft, haven't ruled out interest in securing Ball.

Tigers football manager Craig Cameron said yesterday that the club would meet this week to discuss whether Ball fitted its criteria.

Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh said the club was still interested in Ball and would look at how it could acquire him in either the national or pre-season drafts.

I wonder how in-depth we will look at getting Ball to Collingwood, whether we say "let's make sure we get him for free" or "too hard just get a kid."

It's up to Ball now. Walsh's comment about wanting him from the draft means we're still pursuing him, but in the end he might not want to take the risk of ending up with a club like Port or Freo, even if we do put a large pricetag on his head. He might decide that playing with Melbourne will be easier and less hassle.

Either way, I hope he kills it next year whoever he ends up with.

How awesome would it be if we did get him through the draft though, even if just to rip shreds off the Saints and their supporters?

I'd love that. I could only imagine how pissed off power freak Lyon would be after doing everything he could to sabatage the move.

It'd be awesome to get Ball through the draft.

That article raises hope. I'm also getting the impression from the media that Ball isn't too lukewarm about going to Melbourne, and the Dees are desperately trying to pull strings like offering him the vice-captaincy.

I hope we can work something out and get him at pick 30. I don't think Port and Freo would snap him, because it's unlikely he'd want to leave Melbourne and play for struggling sides.

I think our closest threat would be Essendon, who have a higher pick, are finals contenders (just), have heaps of money and great facilities. They also showed considerable interest in Ball during the week.

At the end of day, it depends on Ball.

If he wants to play for Collingwood then he will. There is no way that a club will pick him up at the terms he is permitted to place on himself that are within the rules. There is definitely a legal way to price other clubs out, and I'm sure that is what Geoff Walsh meant.

i really hope Bally stays a saint. But i cant see that happening now especially after rossy lyon ****ed him over :(

Ball was there on the day pleading with Lyon to just let him go. If he does stay theres a fair few bridges to be rebuilt.
