Luke Ball has been super for the pies this season, yes he occasionally turns it over but he is as hard as a cats head at the pill and makes players around him walk taller due to his example. He will not let the pies down come finals time and if more of the lads played with his intensity we'd be nigh on unbeatable. In 11 weeks he has become my favourit player due to his insane attack on the ball.

He too is one of my favorite players at the club, it's funny how players from other clubs quickly become cult heroes as such, Medhurst also being one of my favs.
Anyway I can't disagree with anyone in this thread, all spot on, he has been great for the club, a great drafting choice!
My only critisism, like many, is his kicking, he now seems even more reluctant to kick and at times the team seems oblivious to the fact. I'ts well publicised that he's a below average kick of the ball, but I'd like to seem him back himself more often, or his teammates be more aware and ready for the handball receive!
Can't wait to see him in and under in the finals, that sort of desparation can only benefit the team!

Ball has been awesome for us. Very influential to our structure and played his role to an A-grade level.

I am with Invig on the AA though, he will be lucky to be one of the names thrown up in discussions about who to have in the initial squad. That is no slight on Ball it's just one of those things. I was pretty certain that Ball was not in any stretch going to be able to be better then he had been at St Kilda for us. I was right in the sense that his weaknesses are still the same and haven't improved, but I think the extra importance to our side and structure and the way he has fitted in means he is having close to a career best season and certainly his best for a while.

He may not come into AA calculations but he'd certainly be pushing B+F with the likes of Daisy, Pendles and Swan.

Very Well Said his In and Under Work and Flow on Effect in the Structure is very important

Approved and brrrr'd by Smally, signed off with 5 neighs, reverse whinny and double apple crunch.

he kicked it near on 50 metres the other night. What the hell is going on?
Showed a turn of pace too.

Think he is slowly coming to terms with his injury free body again

He has been good but I am curious to know statistically whether he has been an improvement over O'Bree.

Can anyone do an analysis of O'Bree's averages last year against Ball's first 11 rounds this year? (Can't use O'Bree's 2010 averages as he has been played from HFF)

I'm pretty sure it will be close with O'Bree probably getting the nod due to better kicking efficiency.

Aw man Smally should definitely have been an MVP award naming candidate. Imagine the hilarity at the awards night!!
I can't see any reason we could not use the Smally Performance Indicator in the awards?

Failing that there is always the BF Magpies Poster of the Year Awards.
:D

O'Bree with better kicking efficiency?

That would be a statistical anomoly if that was the case. ;)

To my eyes Ball has clearly been better this year than O'Bree was last year, or probably just about any year I can think of. I don't need stats to tell me that.

Don't need stats to tell you Ball has been better for our team/midfield than O'Bree was last year.
