people would laugh until Hysterical, but it would solidify North.

Logue would be a very good foil for Ben McKay.
It's both completely stupid and would never happen but I'd also genuinely believe they are better off doing that than taking pick 1 to the draft because it's such a tremendously overrated pick

Absolutely. Not only overrated, just look at the kruezer/murphy/gibbs story to see the pressure it will place on Horne Francis plus #1 this year in the future

Yah, it's a cursed chalice IMO. Naturally, the club the club that has a pick 1 is looking for a saviour but also likely has poor coaching staff and development so the pressure to be incredible immediately is not only exacerbated but less likely to be met. Trade the pick to a club that's not a basket case and the club that gets the pick doesnt need their pick 1 to be an instant superstar AND likely have better development staff so there's more chance you look stupid trading the pick (ie us with Hawthorn).

Still, I think any club turning down what North were offered for pick 1 last year are completely idiotic and you should do that trade every single time. North also have decent young talent, supplementing with all of Lobb, Logue and Acres would do more for them then whoever they draft there

The comparisons with Blicavs is starting to annoy me, not you personally but the idea he’s a 200cm utility. Blicavs was a high end endurance runner. I think an Australian representative in the 3km steeple chase. Very few people his height have that elite endurance. Jackson doesn’t. He doesn’t project the same IMO.

Pretty much no one in the AFL can run endurance like Blicavs, but Jackson ran a 6.21 in the combine 2kmTT.

That's very good for a mid, let alone a 200cm guy.

Remind me, what were the two offers? I seem to remember them coming from Richmond and... was it Adelaide?
Adelaide offered pick 4, 18 and a future 1st (now pick 5) for 1 and a future 2nd (now pick19).

Complete and utter lunacy to turn that down

Interesting him being discussed as a forward, or a ruck, or a forward/ruck doesn't annoy you. Or a midfielder.

Blicavs is the leagues best tall utility.

We’ve been bitten before in big fish trades. But, just like players biting off the more risky centering kick, the club has to be bold and do it if the opportunity is there. Jackson is worth taking the risk on and would make Freo significantly harder to match up on by opposing sides - wherever he plays.

Lobb and Acres leave.

Amiss/Treacy replace Lobb in the forward line.

Jackson replaces Acres as the defensive winger and Lobb as the #2 ruck.

Sorted.
Kind of sorted and isn't a bad option but in my opinion it extends our rebuild by at least a season.

Amiss has had a decent couple of games, but I don't think we can get away with that for a whole season. A little different but similar with Treacy. And regardless it leaves us with an unsettled forward line.

I see Jackson on the wings and midfield but I wouldn't expect him to just slot into that role. Interesting experiment.

If we were just adding Jackson to the mix it gets a big tick for me, but consistently losing best 22 performers is disruptive.

Snuff (and watching the end of the regular season) converted me to Yay.

Jackson's first final wasn't anything special but after Amiss' game 2, I am even at peace if Logue goes.

Logue may in fact now be our fourth best "tall" defender and forward now.
So what happens if Pearce or Ryan go down? We will absolutely need Logue then.

We need to keep him.

I accept he’s a ruck / forward, and he’s a lot of work to do on his forward craft. But that will come with good coaching. The bones are there, pace off the mark, good vertical leap, size, strength, hands are a bit hard, but that can be improved. I’ve no doubt he’s a ruck / forward. He’s not a wing, Key back or mid. Blicavs is the ultimate utility, plays back, forward, ruck, and wing. They are very different. I don’t think Jackson can play with or back.

Firstly, from all reports we have actually offered Logue a significant deal. Think a bunch of posters need to understand this.

Secondly, you can’t overpay to keep as insurance.

I agree we need to keep him, but if he’s turning down 4 years at $500k then he can EAD. That’s a great offer for someone not in our preferred backline and playing as a has no idea forward.

Jackson reads a little different to some of our other big fish trades in that he presently doesn't have any major behavioural issues, mental health concerns, personal demons, chronic injury matters that have plagued all our other trades.

Which means that he must have a Melbourne misso who can't wait to get back to Lygon St 2 years into a contract.

I think you're right, although I imagine that Logue wants to stay and is pushing for the $$$ because there's a deal too good to be true come from over East.

For me, Logue has improved in spades since he was dropped earlier I'm the year. He provides important structure up forward, he can pinch hit in the ruck and he's a wonderful defender.

Hut he just can't football to the level that I believe is required at our club now. Sure, there's others that can provide that role with ball in hand but I'm not sure I'm going to be absolutely devastated beyond belief if you ends up going.

The evidence he can play forward is pretty thin. Pace off the mark and a good vertical leap are great forward traits IF you can mark. Until he can do that we would need to be playing Amiss, Treacy and Taberner forward.

Tabs is injured a lot (hence Treacy should get some opportunities). Rory is also way better than Tabs at it.

I don't think you can use Tabs injuries to justify getting Jackson. He either comes entirely on his own merit or not at all.

I'd much rather be in the situation of having to find someone to ruck for 20% of the game than paying two blokes $1.5m between them to ruck the whole game.
Finlayson was the #1 rated ruck in the back end of the season, second rucks are so overrated

I just don't know. We have really been nailing the draft recently.

He is only 20 so that is a plus, plenty of upside. I just don't think we should sell the farm for him. Plus the $$$, which I think for a 20 year old we would be paying overs.

I have no idea what our salary cap situation is like but if we can bring him in I suppose go for it. I just don't want to trade any of the players who have done so well for us this season. They deserve to stick around (if they want to).

Actually if Lobb wants out I'd say go for it. If Lobb wants to stay then as I said, I just don't know.
