I was given the responsibility of doing collingwoods selectioons on behlaf of our supporters in Mission's phantom draft. My picks were:

Pick 2- Shannon hurn

Pick 5- Xavier Ellis

Pick 21- Dale Thomas

Pick 23- Tom Rischbeith

Pick 37- Ryan Jackson

Pick 52- Thomas Redden

Your thoughts?

IMO, our draft should look like the following.

2: Kennedy
5: Swallow
21: Thomas
23: Pendlebury
37: Grant
53: Iles (or PSD)

thats the problem, i have huge raps on iles, but i wouldnt take him any higher than 53 cause i dont think many other teams have their eye on him, but if we use pick 53, then we have to delist another to have a pick in the psd.

I like the players we get, but I really think we should've picked a tall defender somewhere along the line, likely instead of Ryan Jackson, at lowest.

Jackson is the exact type we don't need more of. He's slow, he doesn't kick well, and he may not be able to play in the middle at AFL level - his best position is likely wing.

He's almost exactly the same player as Ben Davies, but Ben Davies is a lot quicker.

As for Tom Rischbieth - he's a talent, no doubt, but I don't know that we need him at the moment. He seems like either a third forward or a winger, neither of which we have a lot of use for. He could maybe be used as an attacking HBF, but at that pick Grant Birchall or Paul Bower probably would've made more sense, as they have the height to develop as key defenders, while still well able to play that role.

I mean, yes our backline is alright now, but we made the same mistake with our midfield, in that we waited until it actually got too old and slow before addressing it (i.e. now). We can't afford to do the same thing with our backline. We need to draft some tall backs now so that in 2 years they will be ready to step in.

Still, I must say I can't really fault you on the talent you picked - Tom Redden at # 53 is a steal, IMO. Super talented kid - just needs to put it all together.

I'm a massive fan of Pendlebury and I reckon he'd still be available for pick 21 or 23.

Not sure about the other ones yet. There are so many names being thrown up and it's so even. I just hope Hine can pluck some talent out.

boys ill give u the hot tip, player an absolute steal= Matt Riggio. Good type, rated 50+ on footy draf, taken 48 i think in the phantom draft. had him lined up for pick 52, btu got p[ipped at the post. Wouldve looked really good on our picks list, happy with redden, but i got a feeling riggio will ahev a huge impact on the real thing

Likes these picks very much.
Reckon most agree we need to draft 1 tall with our first 4 picks. I say the best way to do this is take the best tall at #2 (unless Murphy is available). I would take Joshua Kennedy as well. Then take the best available mids with picks 5, 21, 23 and 37. Really like Thomas and Pendlebury and would be very happy to get them at 21/23. Would be happy with Grant/Isles/Dempsey at 37. Would probably overlook Swallow at #5, but if Ellis and Hurn go #3 and #4, it might be a tough choice between Swallow, Jones, Varcoe etc

PIelebo we dont need dowler and he will be gone before our 2nd round pick.

im thinking that we should just take teh best available and not worry to much about positions, because we would have been much better served witha pavlich in our team then a Steve Mckee!

Yeh agreed. Plus its said he has poor defensive skills and our attack is very prepared and stronge already but I was curious where he would go after his setback and at what pick.
