Being a Geelong supporter I've never been a fan of Mackie but he's starting to slowly win me over, he had a very good finals series.

He's not your true defender but for the way Geelong plays he seems to be a perfect fit.

I've voted for him over Griffen because over the last 3 seasons you generally know what you'll get from Mackie week in and week out.

Ryan Griffen comfortably. Mackie was never an above average defender and as for attacking players, Griffen absolutely shits on him as he's much stronger through traffic and on his day, when his hamstring isn't sore, he's an excellent kick.

I think Mackie. Haven't seen too much of Griffen but Mackie is a pretty reliable player. Can play on talls & smalls and provides good rebound. Is also a pretty good attacker, loves a goal and can kick a fair distance. Was in the All Australian squad of 40.

Mackie on performance to date, but Griffen has heaps more potential and IMO will be one of the huge improvers of next year.
This is said every year... but i do actually believe it for next season, he had a lot of family issues, etc this year, so is set to explode next year hopefully :thumbsu: , one of my favourite dogs players.

At this stage its Mackie, but Griffen will probably become one of the premier midfielders of the comp eventually, just has to work on his consistency. :thumbsu:

Two very different kinds of playersm, but agree with Jonesy1987, I would pick Mackie on last 3 years but on potential, Griffen could be anything IF he played his best football consistently - Haven't seen that yet though.

I forgot to mention, this is a bad comparison. Griffen's a wingman/midfielder whilst Mackie is mainly a tall rebounding defender. A much better comparison would be between Mackie and Hargrave... but Mackie would still win the poll because the majority of people don't even know who Hargrave is.

thats what i think and hope

Mackie has the runs on the board, but there's more to like about Griffen's speed and strength. Having said that, it seems he is touted to explode every year but never does. If he played more consistently like he did against the Saints in this year's prelim, he would go well past Mackie.

Griffen will be trade bait in the 2010 trade period. Mackie easy.

Why? Just came off a season where he averaged nearly 23 disposals a game despite having a very hard time off the field and some injury problems. He may not be the superstar people expected but he is still a very good footballer who would walk into every side in the league.

Don't bother explaining, as you can see, he barracks for West Coast, all of them are like that.

Regardless, as people have said, he had a very tough time off the field with his father dying before the season started. This shaved Pre-Season training off and when something as terrible as that happens, you can't just quickly recover.

That, plus the fact that Mackie is clearly a superior player to Hargrave.

I right, I forgot to mention that along with Hargrave being anonymous to most other supporters, a lot of Bigfooty users are stupid, as seen in the above quote.

Actually, Mackie is a better player than Hargrave.

I've watched enough Geelong and Bulldogs game to realise which one is more damaging with the ball. Hargrave is a good consistent player but Mackie is abit better. Both great rebounders for their clubs.

So how about you explain to the stupid BF users why Hargraves is anonymous? Could it simply be that he is a league-average player who does his job, but is nothing special?

And conversely, why is it that Mackie is not anonymous?

And in your answer try to be original, don't just regurgitate some tired old BF myth like "the Bulldogs are an unfashionable club, and Geelong get so much media attention, and it is easier to get noticed when you are playing in a great team, blah blah blah".

Could it simply be that Mackie is more well known because he is the clearly superior player?

I anxiously await your sure-to-be-enlightening reply.

I'd Love to say Griffen, because he is my favourite player outside the cats, but the fact is, Mackie has delievered more.

People have said Mackie relies on a great team, but he has played his best footy in the last 8 weeks, when the cats struggled, and he's always sepped up in finals.

Mackie has Griffen right now, but in fututre that might change.

Then why do you continue to post these Polls if you think a lot of the Posters are "stupid". Just because you think your right GB, dosen't make it so. I find it pretty amusing how in every thread you start, you ask for peoples opinion only to bag them if they don't share the same view as you.

How about you stick to the right topic. It clearly says this is a 'Mackie v Griffen' topic, you knob. Also, there's no real point in debating, because if you're not going to accept Geelong being the more popular club for an answer then fine, you can stay deluded but for what it's worth, a lot of people thought Mackie was one the least deserving AA Squad selections.

I'm not going to further debate about it in this topic just because you're trolling. I merely suggested it would be a better comparison than Griffen.

Oh, I suppose it's wrong to debate in my own topics. The only people I call stupid are the ones that are clearly wrong and/or trolling. Show me an example where I bag someone's opinion.

A) You're the one who derailed this threadby bringing Hargraves into discussion, so if you're going to hurl abuse at people, hurl it at yourself.

B) If you can't take other peoples opinions in an opinionated section of this forum, I suggest you head to the Bay. You are easily the worst poster in the Poll section as you absolutely refuse to look at any subject from any view except your extremely biased one.

If you want people to take you seriously, stop name calling and stereotyping and start being constructive.

Mackie > Griffen. Go ahead GB, explain how stupidly wrong I am.
