ronnie burns just made a "tounge in cheek comment"on the radio as good as claiming he will be a skills coach at carlton next year, so i geuss he can teach them to drink.
Might be able to teach you to spell.

Lol.. you serious? Macca got know say who gave Hughes the flick?
I'd imagine it was Swann, given Malthouse has no firing powers of anybody but playing staff, and even then he has to consult with the rest of the football department.

He doesn't need firing powers he just drops a word in the right ear and it will happen. That would be the right ear of Swann.

Sorry, who are you?

Mick will get certain things he needs to make his job easier, and like everybody at the club, will get the chance to express their opinion on things. Let's not pretend that Mick is now running the Carlton Football Club. He is an employee, and he has a job to do. The over the top hero worship is ridiculous.

Someone who has first hand knowledge of how Mick works. I'm not pretending that Mick is now running the CFC nor do I hero worship him I'm simply stating a fact.

He freely admits he is an autocrat, but unless it benefits the team, there is no way he can just point his finger at someone outside of his coaching box and they are gone. What would be the point of having any other roles at the club, if the coach can just order them fired at will? His power and influence, beyond being a fresh coach that can set up his role and his assistants roles the way he needs to, is overstated.

ANSWER MY ? HOW GAVE HUGHES THE FLICK?
Geez, try addressing me in a language I recognise first. It is getting worse.

Swann or McKay would have given him the flick, because as I said, the senior coach has no firing powers. Have someone translate that into whatever language it is you prefer but the answer is the same as the last one.

It was Ratts..

What? I assumed Hughes had been moved on altogether the way you are talking.

You mean his demotion in order to give Rogers the gig? Ratten could have a recommendation, but he had no power to make that decision.

Sheesh, so he wasn't even given the flick. Thought something had happened in the last couple of days, I had not seen anything on.

I'd be a moderator on a board you are being a smart arse on. Anything else?
That previous post was a key miss hit and has now been deleted.
I'm not being a smart arse at all just trying to inject some constructive comment.

BTW in relation to your interest in the Hughes Rogers matter, do you know how Rogers got his job at the Club?

Correct, do you think that maybe he also had something to do with Rogers becoming the National Recruiting Manager?

Um yes. As reported at the time, Rogers had a gig offered to him elsewhere, Carlton wanted to retain him, and Hughes stepped down to an assistant position so Rogers could get the chief position.

Correct again, Rogers is a good operator and Carlton is wise to hang on to him.

That's what I'm saying. Mick doesn't .have a mandate to keep Rogers on his toes. Rogers is the recruiting manager and works with Mick, not for him, and he answers to McKay/Swan.

I just want to see us be as well drilled and as competitive as the finals teams for 22 rounds. Adelaide aren't as skilled and as talented as Hawthorn, but they wouldn't give in. Ditto for Sydney who beat Collingwood last night. We've shown that we are more than capable of playing hard footy against the top teams. Just need to get the structure right and the players to buy into it. #Pavlov'sdog

Agreed, I don't believe that I posted anything to the contrary.

Well one of our posters was talking about how Mick controls the football department, will keep Rogers on his toes and said that the previous coach caused Hughes to be demoted. I disagreed that a coach has that power at the club and you said:

He doesn't need firing powers he just drops a word in the right ear and it will happen.

It didn't really help. Malthouse is not a recruiter, and I doubt the club would sack Rogers on Mick's say so. Others would evaluate Rogers' worth, not Mick.

All well and good, but surely MM has a say in trades, ie: the Cloke thingy.

Quite frankly, haven't got a clue who is running the place right now.
Absolutely the coach is in trades up to his eyeballs. Not the same as identifying talent in the juniors, or state leagues. The recruiters basically work out a list of the best kids out there, and also a list of those that fit needs and coaches wants. The recruiters are there to work with the coach and advise him.

MM has had his year as a civilian, starving then quenching his passion for coaching, am sure he has probably built a network of managers, potential investors and contacts through his media role.

The worry, as you stated, is that as an autocrat he's probably going to bring himself to the table with pre-conceived ideas on how his football team, not so much the Carlton Football Club, will be run.

Not trying to be a shit-stirrer, but literally handing the club to him is a huge worry.

There's an old saying, shit or bust......

Watched his pre-game analysis on Ch7 prior to tonights game. Didn't really understand any of it but if anyone has any doubts about whether he has the fire in the belly to coach this proves he had (for me anyway). Seemed to get right into the 'zone' as he went through the moves and counter moves.

... although he tipped Hawthorn by 36pts so shows how much he knows :)
