Why does Malthouse persist with his childish pedantic word plays?

Does each year that you don't achieve the ultimate make you even hungrier?
Well, the ultimate is what? Is the ultimate a premiership?

Yes Mick- the ultimate success in our code is winning the premiership. Why could he not say that he is hungrier due to our continued failure to snag a flag? It reminds me of the famous "come to play" carry on. Get over yourself Mick and just say what you really feel without the petulant, sulky games. No-one said it is easy or that you are a poor coach if you don't win one. He is so defensive.

As for calling 2009 a success. We did have a good year but surely there is a time to draw the line in the sand and say anything less than a flag is a failure no matter how many young kids were blooded or how many exciting games we played in.

I am not a Malthouse fan but I have no issue with the way he interviews. Why would he answer the question this way in this case? Simple the club would have set a number of goals for the year and I would suggest we meet most of them, top four finish got some good game time into a few kids. Great year from Pendles. Good finals preformance from Thomas. Etc, Etc, Etc.

Pretty much as Opti has said you don't throw the baby out with the bath water. No matter how good you are only one team wins the flag each year so it can't be the only assesment of whether a year is a pass or fail. Also you can't be addressing the critera and season in an objective way with the players and then come out in the media and admit your season was a failure.

On top of all of this he'd know one of the biggest thing the haters hang their hat on is the lack of a flag so it would just add fuel to the fire to accept that is the only marking criteria of a coach.

From a whole interview, which was honest and enlightening, I find no need to try and conjure a single, vague comment to hang a bit of dissatisfaction on.

Beats the shit out of hearing absolutely nothing from your clubs coach....

Shawthing09- I have already said that winning a flag is not an appropriate way to measure the worth of coach. That is not the issue. This is the issue.

If Malthouse is genuinely not frustrated, hungrier or angry due to our inability to win a flag I don't want him coaching the team I love. How would he be doing anything other than acknowledging the pain and hunger felt by those who keep him in a job if he were to simply say- "Yeah, it shits me but we are all the more determined to win it..."

That would win him far more friends than his usual tapdance. What the hell does he think the ULTIMATE success in our code means- Perhaps playing the most young players? Making the top four in the most number of consecutive seasons?

Pie eyed- a good deal of what Malthouse said in the interview was interesting and honest. The bullshit came at the end and that is why I wrote about it. It's the same style of garbage he serves up at his press conferences-patronising,dishonest arrogant drivel. I think Malthouse is an excellent coach and doubt if any other coach would have achieved what he has with our list. I might add that he is responsible for that list and being a good coach is still no excuse for talking BS.

I would like someone to let me know when failure to win a flag is seen as a failure for the season. We've played finals footy in the past three seasons and played in two preliminary finals. Eade came out a couple of weeks back and said anything less than a flag in 2010 will be seen as a failure by the Dogs. Now that is an honest coach and he is right. When will we be in the same category in your opinion?

Malthouse has been asked many reasonable questions at his press conferences for the past 20 odd years and responded with some of the most ridiculous crap to come from a coach's mouth. He owes the people who pay his salary (us) clear, honest answers to sincere questions (even if he is tired of answering them or personally thinks they are stupid.)
The week after he carried on about the expression "come to play" he told a packed conference the players were "flat" before the game. Perhaps a journo should have asked him to clarify what he meant by flat. eg. Did he mean flat as in flat as a piece of paper or maybe the type of flat people live in? This is the type of nonsense Mick often engages in.

When I get a reasonable response or explanation for Mick's frequent irrational outbursts and responses I'll stop being pedantic. Neil Craig always answers any question honestly and respectfully and he is dealing with the same people each week. It can be done.

Does anyone ever question Didak's ability to make sense when speaking to the press. No his job is to play football.
Sticks Kernahan (Carlton) can hardly speak English. No because everyone knows he has this problem.

If as you say you generally think Malthouse is a good coach and the bulk of his responses were straight forward and intelligible, then why are you getting your knickers in such a knot over this one reply?
