Mass Effect 2 ‘Overlord’ DLC Revealed
EA has revealed the next piece of premium DLC for BioWare’s Mass Effect 2, titled ‘Overlord’, which will be coming out some time in June. The content will feature five levels set across one story on one planet as players seek to destroy some sort of threatening enemy AI. You can check out the first non-threatening, hi-res images from the content right here.

According to BioWare’s Casey Hudson (via GamerZines), the content will not introduce any new characters. In fact, there will be no more squad mates introduced in Mass Effect 2 via future DLC. Bummer.

As for ‘Overlord’, the DLC will apparently be less linear than prior downloadable content as players will have the ability to utilize the Hammerhead vehicle to explore the planet on which the content takes place.

It'll go for 560 Microsoft Points or Bioware Points and I think I've got about 600 in my account so I'm getting it :D.

Thank god they fixed the scanner. It's bigger and faster (that's what she said) than it used to be, so I might actually go back and complete a third playthrough now :D.

I knew I was waiting for my second play thru for a reason.

I nearly couldn't finish it the first time after I ignored scanning all the way through then realised I needed some upgrades at the end.

Story between ME2 and ME3 to be told via DLC
'Continued stream' of Mass Effect 2 DLC planned.

BioWare will tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 with downloadable content packs, VideoGamer.com can reveal.

BioWare has released only one story-based downloadable pack since the January release of Mass Effect 2. The Kasumi - Stolen Memory DLC introduced a new party member and an associated loyalty mission.

The Overlord DLC, due in June, will see Commander Shepard investigate a Cerberus research base home to a hybrid AI.

BioWare intends to release a "continued stream" of DLC, lead producer Casey Hudson told VideoGamer.com as part of a Mass Effect 2 retrospective.

"We have a bunch of packs that are in the works right now," Hudson said.

"So, for the time being there's going to be a continued stream of DLC for people. We'll start to have packs that'll tell the story between Mass Effect 2 and 3. But beyond that we kind of have to see how people are responding to what we have and go from there."

Mass Effect 2 was released in January to critical acclaim. We gave it ten out of ten in our review.

Although BioWare has confirmed that work has begun on the third game in the RPG shooter series, the Canadian developer isn't ready to reveal details on it just yet.

"It probably won't be for quite a few months that we talk about Mass Effect 3," Hudson told us.

That makes an E3 reveal next month highly unlikely.

Earlier this year EA chief operating officer John Schappert said the publisher will release "something far reaching from Mass Effect" in the January through March 2011 quarter.

Doubt they'll reveal anything concerning Mass Effect 3 for a fair while since ME2 was released in January. Can't wait to hear the new stuff they've got brewing in there.

Mass Effect The Movie In The Works
Yup, folks, the cinematic sci-fi action game, Mass Effect, is on its way towards becoming a Hollywood cinematic sci-fi action movie. Legendary Pictures acquired the feature film rights to the Mass Effect franchise and is already in discussions with the screenwriter of I Am Legend and Thor to pen the screenplay. But wait, there are even bigger names jumping in on this one.

According to the announcement, the BioWare Doctors/co-founders, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, as well as Mass Effect executive producer, Casey Hudson, will serve as executive producers for the movie alongside film veterans Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avi and Ari Arad. You may recognize those last two names as the gents working on the film adaptations of Uncharted, Infamous and Lost Planet.

"At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture," said Casey Hudson. "With Legendary and Avi and Ari Arad attached, we believe that the Mass Effect movie will be an extraordinary entertainment event that realizes our vision for the franchise and thrills fans."

Granted, it's going to be a while before we see ANYTHING about the Mass Effect movie, if it ever happens, though it's already got us tickled. Will Commander Shepherd be male or female? Better yet, will he/she be renegade or paragon?? At least we know who will play Miranda. What are your thoughts, ME fans?

Wow, Awesome! I think it's obvious we'd get the Paragon Shepard if he's in the movie, but I doubt they'd focus on him, although I hope they do.

Hey Mancey did you pitch a tent when you heard there is going to be a movie:eek:.
When i read the news for some reason the only thing i could think of was you posting it everywhere

The only thing that remains is just like all game movie tie-in's is ARE THEY ANY GOOD?!

I saw PoP last night which was surprisingly quite good. Stuck really close to the actual game and overall had to be one of the better game movie's there's been.

Can you condense what is a 60+? hour game of Mass Effect into a 1 and a half to 2 hour movie? Does the whole premise and concept actually suit that of a movie?

After playing most of Bioshock you can definitely feel that would suit a movie perfectly, but even that has been put on hold and changed directors numerous times. Uncharted could be an either way type of prospect, while it definitely has the whole Indiana Jones thing going for it, there's a big chance of corny tripe coming from it. Hitman 2 is set to come soon with a change of director and possibly even lead star. Heavy Rain seems to be going ahead with a bidding war, but will that be good considering the non-linear nature of much of the story?

any ideas when ME 3 will be out? Hints on new characters and storylines?

Late 2011/Early 2012 I think. Not sure about new characters, but all the old ones will definitely be returning (provided your ME2 ones survived in the playthrough you're importing).

Not entirely sure about storylines, but Bioware are planning on bridging the story between ME2 and ME3 through DLC so we can assume that storyline setups could possibly happen through there.

We can also assume that we get to find out the identity of the Shadow Broker. My money's on Miranda's dad :p.

New Mass Effect 2 DLC Announced
The official Mass Effect 2 website has been updated with word of the game’s latest DLC, titled Lair of the Shadow Broker, although no specific release date or price point has been set.

"Two years ago, Commander Shepard died and Liara T’Soni fought in a desperate struggle against the Shadow Broker to recover her former Commander. Now that Shepard is back, it’s time to even the score.

Team up with Liara and confront the mysterious and sinister Shadow Broker in the latest expansion to Mass Effect 2, coming soon!"

Wow, I thought this was a fake rumour, but we actually get to find out who the Shadow Broker is. Personally I would've preferred to find out in Mass Effect 3, but this could just be a build up to it. Can't wait :).

I don't think we'll find out who it is. There will probably be some twist at the end of the DLC that will have the Shadow Broker as someone else, or something like that. Such a massive secret would be best saved for ME3.

Picked this up 2 weeks ago and just completed it today.

Details/Choices
- Imported Shepard (but still started at a low level).
- 37 hours.
- level 25, Renegade, Infiltrator.
- No team members killed (I didn't realise they could be until reading this today).
- Lost my crew through.
- Blew the Geth - Herratics ship.
- Can't recall what I did with TIM.
- Did it with Miranda (but wish Samara was up for it)... did Liara in ME1.
- Wrex still alive.
- Things still seem cool with Miranda and Jack.
- Legion and Tiali (sp?) tense but settled it for now until Collectors/Reapers are down.
- Got basic 200k of each resource except EZ.
- Got 1/3 of planets left to scan.
- About 5 side missions left.
Game Thoughts
- FREAKING BRILLANT
- more refined then ME1
- every mission is unique and filled with cut scenes.
- every world/ship, landing/docking, maps/layout are unique.
- Simplified upgrades, resource gathering is great.
- Love diversity of team members... except Jack's tatts look poor IMO.
- Normal level seemed rather easy... and lacked enough challenging boss fights.
- I did miss the MAKO... but just got the FireWalker DLC so got a cool vehicle now.

See ME2 = Empire Strikes Back... and setting the stage for ME3 conclusion.

Will spend some time now rounding out remaining side missions. Also TIM mentioned about me going back to get my crew... not sure if I can do that, but will check it out.

Then will do a 2nd run through with a Paragon, Adept and female Shepard.

Also hope the movie (or 3... come it would HAVE to be a triology) goes ahead.

Good stuff mate, and yeah it's my game of the year.

One nit pic, put the spoiler tags on next time. There might be people who have not finished it yet.
