Is it worth going out and spending money on microsoft points to get Overlord and Kasumi Dreams dlc. I know it would be good but not sure if i really want to go spend 30 bucks just to get a couple of extra levels.

Haven't done overlord yet, though Kasumi is ok nothing more then that really.

Is there anything in the DLC stories that adds to the story and would be worth knowing going into the third one for someone who has played through the game but done none of the DLC?

I loved both of them so for me it was worth it. I think its about $9 for each of those DLC's.

As far as I know, the Kasumi DLC will carry over into ME3 since you get a new character. The new Shadow Broker DLC is definitely something that you would want to know about going into the third game though.

They're both worth it IMO. Overlord offers an interesting new story and a couple of hours of new gameplay, whilst Kasumi offers a new character, a new weapon and a nice new casual outfit (especially for FemSheps). With both of them, you'll get 4-5 hours of extra gameplay. It isn't much game time compared to DLC in other games, but the game time that you get is well worth it.

I think i'll wait until ME3 is on the horizon and then buy all the dlc and go through the game again.

Think i might do that already finished the game a number of times now so i think i put the game on the shelf for a while and get the new dlc and start fresh closer to ME3's release.

Looking forward to downloading the DLC's. Finished with a paragon soldier now replaying through ME1 with vanguard and eventually on to ME2 with same character. For some reason I can't bring myself to be a renegade (can't even be bad when it's a game:D)

I'm usually into fantasy RPG's but prefer this game to Dragon Age because the storyline/characters etc. are that good.

Been trying to play through ME1 but i just get so bored of rpg's for some reason, i try but i just cant do it unfortunately :( so i dont think i'll get to ME2 if i cant even get a couple of hours into 1.

Honestly... try to push through it if you can. It is worth it!!!!

1st time I played ME1... I only lasted a few hours of gametime.

2nd time I played ME1... again I wasn't that impressed, but pushed through (hey I was bored)... then about 2/3s (or 10-15 hours in) I started getting the hang of it... the story pieces started coming together... and I was addicted. The final 3rd of the game was pure awesomeness... like watching a movie whilst playing a game. A gripping story that drove your forward to find out what was going to happen next.

I handed my ME1 to my mate (XBOX and sci-fi fan... but he hated RPGs). I told/pushed the following to him: ... look it is a bit boring/tedious etc at first... but if you can... PUSH THROUGH IT. In the end you will love it.

After he completed the game he said: "you're right. I almost gave up on it after about 15/20 hours in... but I pushed on... and you were right. It is bloody great. One of the best games ever. Thanks for putting me onto it."

Once you're familiar with ME game, story etc... ME2 is even better. Simplier to play and even better storyline and cut scenes from Start to End.

So I implore you to push through and finish it. :)

Only reason not to is if you don't like sci-fi stories.

Huge news for PS3 owners.

Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3 in January 2011. Apparently set to get a bunch of bonus content as well.

No news on Mass Effect 1 though.

Mass Effect 2 is coming to PlayStation 3.

BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka made the announcement today at Gamescom in Germany during Electronic Arts' press conference. No other details about the game were revealed.

EA set a release date for January, 2011.
BTW you heard it here first (more or less) more than a year ago.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I wish they announced this earlier! Mass Effect 2 was the main reason I bought a 360 only a couple of months ago

oh well. I'll definitely buy it on the PS3. It's worth another playthrough, or three

Only problem is all the hard work done through ME1 would be pointless. Good thing is though im thinking of getting a PS3 now my XBOX has decided to shit itself.

Details of the 'bonus content' that the PS3 version will be getting is now know. And for those fretting about no Mass Effect 1 (which it would seem is still going to remain exclusive, although ME3 is 99% going to be on the PS3 now) there will be an introduction to Mass Effect 2 through the bonus content. As well as the already released XBOX 360 DLC, instead though that will be on the disc! Upcoming DLC will also be coming post PS3 title release.

MASS EFFECT 2 BONUS CONTENT DETAILED
The PS3 version will include pre-game content to serve as an introduction to the Mass Effect universe and story for new players - as well as DLC from the 360 game on-disc.

And that's not all - there will also be PS3-customised access to the Cerberus Network, although details on that one are sketchier.
Although the good doctor remained vague on the exact nature of the introductory content, Muzyka said that the introductory content was designed to fill in the back-story PS3 players might have missed.

"We haven't revealed what that is yet," he added. "It'll be something that provides a good introduction and provides a lot of the back-story and introduces you well to the story-arc, and kind of makes you feel like you're part of it all. And then you can jump right into the action in Mass Effect 2."

Do you get to choose who survives from ME1, because they killed off all the remotely interesting characters by default.
Depends on what exactly the lead up content is.

But I would highly doubt they will stop people from accessing as much story content as physically possible.

Maybe, at the very least, there'll be cutscenes of the story and you get to make the choices/go through the dialogue.

I'm not exactly sure how the exclusivity deal goes, but I don't think they'll be able to cut and paste sections from ME1 into the start of ME2. It'll be interesting to see how they do it though.

I think at the very least Bioware or EA would have the rights to at least use some info/screens/cutscenes, etc. from ME1. After all is still Bioware's game.
You would just start it with generic questions from ME1, like did so and so survive or die and what you did.
Could be some sort of choose your own adventure movie that they might make or something. It was said "hours of bonus content" so you'd assume they could fit in a few hours or so worth of previous stuff from ME1 to help explain the story and such. There's no way that they'll limit the potential story for ME2 and turn it into something that is more linear.

What ant means HBK, is that for the people that didn't carry over ME1 characters to ME2 on 360, at the start you get interviewed by the cerberus recruiters.

They ask a lot of questions like, "remind me of what happened on such and such a planet". It'll give you a few responses to choose from, the answers to which sorta fills in the blanks for your character. So yeah, sorta choose your own adventure
