linear story and dialogue are a no go for bioware, surely they recognise the opposite of those things is infact one of the games great strength

they have produced a lot of fantastic games, i'll trust them to produce a brilliant conclusion to mass effect

I guess it depends what sort of games you like. Yes, the inventory system was cluttered in ME1 but it was nice to have some sort of customization. Dialogue in ME2 was better, but the overall plot wasn't as immersing and didn't have as many mind blowing moments (the whole build your squad up for one mission being the actual story of ME2 dictated that.) The fact that the EA boss has said they delay was to '..essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach...' suggests we will see even more streamlining and probably a game direction that is linearly dictated by your choices in ME1 and ME2. Or, I'm wrong, and Bioware are polishing and perfecting the game into something that combines the best of ME1 and ME2. Hopefully I am wrong.

Customisation is great but the customisation in ME1 was boring as batshit and out of place. It's just not fun to select different ammo types when it makes a minute difference to how you dispense of generic cronies. I don't mind it in more tactical RPGs but ME1 was never tactical enough to actually need those and the layers and different flavours of ammo/armour don't capture the imagination at all. I just wanted to set an ok combination of armour/weapons and forget about it. Other RPGs like Fallout 3, final fantasy games etc. inventory management was interesting and diverse. In ME1 it was a massive and intrusive chore.

A linear storyline based on your decisions on ME1 or ME2 would also go against finding a larger market.

Funny that you mentioned Fallout 3 with different ammo and such. I thought Fallout New Vegas was a very good game which was let down by a few things. One of the main ones was the introduction of different ammo. It made the game more annoying then interesting. Also the armour peircing ammo was fairly rare while there were many enemies who wore strong armor.

As collected by a NeoGAF user, the new details provide information regarding various gameplay elements present in the game.

Spoilers ahead.

You can jump and roll in the game, and blindfire has been introduced.

As well as gaining civilisation’s allegiance, you can lose them to the Reapers if you don’t play right, similarly to losing squadmates in the suicide mission.

Your weapons have three upgrade slots -scope, barrel and grip, and you can change the colour and camouflage of weapons.

Cerberus and Husks will be main enemies, and Cerberus is divided into three main types of troops – heavy bruisers, medium and light.

You may be able to get an eyepiece, like Garrus’s, that will allow non-sniper weapons to scope in further, which also hints at armour having more of an effect on gameplay.

Bioware is going to announce something big at E3 – a lot of the gameplay features and more squadmates.

Giving Mass Effect (1) another go after not being a fan of it the first time I played, how long is it before decisions you make in the game have an actual effect?

The hour or so is just as I remember it, dialogue wheel essentially still ending up with the same result no matter what you chose.

Depending on your choices you go good or bad. Trying to go half way will stuff you up later in the game.

The Blue or the Red dialogue is based on how good/evil you are. Blue is paragon, Red = renegade.

Release date.
ea’s announced that mass effect3 will launch on march 6, 2012 worldwide.

The developer also officially announced the Collector’s Edition for the game

Voice commands coming to ME3... hmmm interesting to see how effective this will be:

Voice commands tell Xbox 360 to search for TV shows
...
Users can already stream Foxtel through the console, but Australia will not receive the voice controls touted at last year's expo until later in the year.

Voice controls were revealed for several upcoming games, however, including Mass Effect 3 where players will be able to command their squadron over a microphone.

Gamers will also be able to design their own weapons using guestures and voice commands in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier, pulling guns apart and repeating commands such as "optimise for close combat".

It's EA. I don't trust Bioware to write a conclusion full-stop.

There is no way in hell i'll be sitting in my front of my tv telling my invisible mates what to do and where to go..

Why not... I do that to COD team killers. :p

Soo looking forward to this, and like 10 other games... lol

Played through ME1 and ME2 on XB360 though now I have a PS3 also... Is it worth playing ME2 through on that? How much difference is there?

At very least I will be playing through the last level once more, as the scientist douche decided to die on me... lol!

The difference is you can't carry your ME1 characters over to 2 and 3.

Obviously, as there is no ME1, but they have like a catch up at the start... And the crossover between 1 and 2 wasn't a great as i was hoping it was, whilst still a cool feature...

I was talking more of graphical difference and also if there was added content?

They used part of or all of the ME3 engine for ME2 on PS3. So the graphics are improved. The game comes with most of the DLC packaged (newer ones are separate downloads)

I've done both: played ME2 first, then got ME1 and played through with the same character.

ME2 is so much better after playing me1, there's whole levels of understanding you get from ME1 that deepen the story for ME2. Definitely worth it, even if the start of ME1 is a bit of a drag.

ME3 Collector's Edition detailed (likely to change somewhat for us here).
