Multiplat Mass Effect: Andromeda

Unfortunately this game has something missing for me, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Didn't have a problem with the facial animations like a lot of people, I found doing the same thing on each planet really dull but I quite liked the combat, it just couldn't keep me enticed the sanevway that Witcher 3 or past ME games had, shame I was really pumped for it. Will be trading in for the AFL Evo game next week most likely :/

Finished it tonight.

Enjoyed it thoroughly. Probably the weakest of the bunch, but it's important to note the original ME trilogy is my favourite gaming series. They are all 10s and this is a comfortable 8.5 to me. I do look forward to seeing where they take the Andromeda series. I'll probably give a more critical review later on when it isn't 1 in the morning and I haven't had a few drinks to cloud the head.

One thing I will say now though, is that I think the open world aspect is greatly overplayed. I don't think it played very different to any other ME game in that regard.

Finished the campaign

Man that was an underwhelming ending. When the achievement popped after I hit the remnant console after one of the easiest battles of the game I was rather surprised. Then, walk outside. One short convo, a corny response (or at least I picked a corny response) and bam credits. They've really struggled with endings in the last couple of games.

I find the best ending bits came after the credits. The epilogue.

Ok, a few dot points.

  • It was definitely a lighter tone than the other games, which is ok I reckon. I think a lot of works of media are always looking to amp up the darkness and grittiness, but what actually happens, and they don't realise, is that you can hit a wall with that stuff. Too many keep pushing through it and it just becomes a bit silly. ME:A dialled it back a bit. It's fun and a good choice overall.
  • Loved the humour in the game. Very funny.
  • Nice to see the romance scenes back on track after Bioware were scared off by the ultra conservative Americans jumping on them following Mass Effect 1. No more half way sexy time scenes where people keep their undies on. The one I had seemed very impractical though.
  • Obviously buggy, but I didn't have any gamebreakers, so it didn't bother me.
  • The banter between squadmates was fantastic. The constant interruption of it by a variety of sources was shisenhousen.
  • It still felt a bit small to me. Maybe I need to replay the original trilogy for some relativity.
  • Research Points and Rare Minerals can thin out incredibly fast, only craft if you really need/want to make a custom piece.
  • The music quite frankly wasn't up to scratch with the epic scores of the others.

Agree with most except the smallness. I've played 45 hours and feel i have ages to go.

On the research points, if you use the app to send strike teams you get a tonne of research points. I hadn't been on for a week until this morning but I kept sending strike teams on missions, came back to 120 crates of stuff which took about ten minutes to open

I haven't finished the game yet (have done Eos, Voeld and some of Aya) but would agree with pretty much all of this. The humour was definitely a highlight - Liam's loyalty mission in particular was hilarious.

I think the characters are generally pretty likeable and well fleshed out. Not ME2 levels of likeable but pretty close. Full credit to the voice actress for Peebee, her energy and exuberance really come through.

In terms of the graphics the only let downs are the human faces and walking animations. The aliens look great and the planets themselves are stunning. Really impressed with how well the game buffers and loads when crusing around planetside actually.

Will come back with a proper rating once finished but honestly think this has been underrated by critics.

Yeah, I didn't like Liam at all, the only one I actually disliked, and was going to skip his loyalty mission, but was real happy I didn't, it was a fun mission. One of the better ones

I'm actually quite liking this - a bit unwieldy in parts, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Currently got the main campaign on hold in favour of Loyalty Missions and settlements.

My one big knock on the open worlds (as stunning as they are - Elaaden and Voeld in particular) is they lose a bit of the energy and intensity that made the originals so special. Think that's why I'm enjoying the Loyalty missions so much.

Glad I started collecting the memory triggers - shit starting to get interesting on memory #3.

Replaying again as FemRyder but mainly skipping through it. Just cleaning up achievements and building my character and inventory up for an Insanity run.

Story is much more interesting when I am not forgetting who is who and which NPC's are important, etc.

Does the military or science outpost have significant affects?

Military the dudes from eos help you out in your final run. Science you hear warmer things from the planets you try to establish outposts on (they dont accuse you of being a warmonger all the time)

Agree with all this. I called this the phantom menance game because its all about setting the stage for the benefactor, and the empire that the archon is a part of

On the insanity run, im doing my 100% completist insanity now. Archies are fun, but annointed and destiny dudes do my head in. Both take a fair number of headshots before shields are down, and during that time you are very vulnerable to being mobbed by them

That sucks, have to say I am pretty hyped to see where the Andromeda serious goes. Looks like it will be a long wait.

Game just finished, instead of workers sitting around doing nothing they are moved to work on Battlefront. Small team remains for DLC/patching duties.

Makes sense to me.

Just finished - really enjoyed the finale.

- Did the deal with Primus and went with the Moshae as the ambassador. Feels like the first will come back to bite in any sequels.
- Loved how the final battle unfolded - all the allies you spent drawing in turning up was pretty cool.
- Thought some of the character criticism was a bit unwarranted: thought Drack, Peebee, Vetra and Jaal's arcs were all very enjoyable.
- Liked the humour
- Really liked the new combat: playing adept felt like much less of a cluster****. Didn't make much use of the flexibility with the powers (pumped everything into biotics until I was singularity/throw nuking everything) but if I do another playthrough I reckon I'll try to focus on combat/tech.

Imagine Quarian Ark will be the DLC, with Primus/ongoing Kett fight as the eventual sequel?

If there's improvements to be made, a bit more focus wouldn't hurt - more opportunities to go into those old-style missions, tighter, more engaging spaces in the open worlds.

Hope that's the case - would be sad if it dropped off completely.

It's not over with.

The series has been put on hiatus. Even if it does come back it won't be for another 5+ years.

Other series put on hiatus by EA include Dead Space & Burnout.

Just started playing it yesterday, only done the start and explored the ship, only now going to the first planet, so far doesn't feel like Mass Effect, also the writing is terrible.
