Long shot I know but I'd love us (WCE) to offer him a huge deal. (Warner offer+)
See if we can make him think long and hard about it.

We're in desperate need of his type (Yes I'm aware we need everything but it starts in the guts and Rowell in an absolute beast)

Bit of a fanboi TBH
Zero percent chances he goes to West Coast. He's a winner and the only reason he'd leave GC to to go to a winning team. Suns are on the rise so chances are he will stay as reported by Cal Twomey yesterday on Gettable. My opinion it will be a 2 year deal which takes him to free agency. As a suns supporter I'd love a longer term deal though

Look - I agree it's highly unlikely but make him think very hard about it, by becoming the highest paid player in the AFL.
If you don't ask, you don't get...Other ways to value add too.

Make an offer/overall package too good to refuse....the dude eats grass so I'm sure he'd love a Hungry Jack franchise too. ;)

Then sell the story about becoming a key figure in turning the club into a powerhouse again.

Like I said, highly unlikely and I'm a fanboi but stranger things have happened.

Money isn’t the issue if it was the AFL would just give him an ambassadorship to stay at the suns

Id go 7 year 20 mill deal myself.

Okay...I'll try a counterpoint. (My club is crap and it's fun shits and giggles. Dreamers dream)

It's easy to assume the AFL would move heaven and earth to keep a star like Rowell on the Gold Coast, but let's not ignore the other side of the coin...We're now very close to the point where it’s actually just as much in the AFL’s interest to see a powerhouse club like West Coast return to dominance.

West Coast is one of the AFL’s commercial engines. They’re probably the most financially powerful club in the comp. Current large membership numbers, loyal supporter base, elite facilities, and a one-club state dynamic that gives them unrivalled pull in WA. A strong West Coast equals stronger broadcast ratings, merchandise sales, and matchday revenue...This is starting to look proppy and the club is in a weakened state. If the funk continues for much longer, the ramifications will be felt all around the AFL and AFL central.

Yes, the AFL has invested heavily in the Suns, ambassador roles, priority picks, soft cap boosts, etc. There’s a point where the AFL needs to pivot from “growth” to “stability.” The Gold Coast experiment can’t keep draining energy while legacy clubs like WCE fade into irrelevance. GC look finals bound and have built a deep, capable midfield. If any club can afford to lose a premier mid, it’s them

The AFL thrives on big clubs being strong. Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton ect, when they’re up, viewership booms. West Coast is no different. The current risk of a decade of mediocrity from a club like WCE risks disengagement from a massive fanbase and weakens the national balance. That’s not just bad for WA, it's bad for the league’s competitiveness and the national narrative.

AFL priorities shift with the times....They want Gold Coast to work and now it looks like they have, but they also desperately need one of their most important clubs to matter again. Don’t be surprised if we start seeing the AFL give WCE a bit more leash going forward, whether subtly or otherwise. Helping Rowell move west, even indirectly, isn’t as outlandish as it sounds.

So yeah, it’s a huge long shot. But a healthy, competitive West Coast is also good business for the AFL. If Rowell wanted out for huge $$$, you best believe HQ wouldn’t block it or give him an ambassadorship. They might even quietly support it.

This is just historically not true, we have had AFL ambassadors for various roles sure, some of them include some very high profile players like Gary Ablett but the AFL offers top players at every club significant ambassador money.

I remember it was a big talking point during the Tom Lynch to Richmond saga where everyone suggested the AFL would just stump up a huge ambassador fee to keep him at the Suns, before the AFL admitted that at the time, 3 of the top 4 highest paid ambassadors were at Melbourne based clubs, one of whom being Scott Pendlebury

'QLD ambassador' payments in general wouldn't really be a massive incentive for players financially given that the majority of sponsorships and appearance fee's outside of football that players get, go to those in Victoria, Adelaide and WA anyway with the AFL being the more dominant code in those states. Their earning potential is generally a lot higher regardless of any ambassadorial roles outside of the northern clubs.

"AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said at a Fox Footy launch recently that Scott Pendlebury receives the most funding as an AFL ambassador"

FWIW I think Rowell stays but I think his decision will be a combination factor of success and where he wants to live. Will get paid handsomely wherever he goes.

Not sure why but he does seem to run out of steam after a series of good games.

Are the good games usually against bad teams? I remember round 0 last year he destroyed us and everyone was saying he will dominate the season. Then this season they beat up on the bottom 6 teams and their whole midfield is apparently unstoppable. Good midfields will shut him down.

Not a snow flakes chance in hell will this guy leave the suns in the next 5 years

Has put in all the work and his team is ready to have a real shot and he doesnt want to miss out
Team is absolutely stacked with talent with improvement to come and more talent coming onto the list. Would be nuts to leave

I don’t think he will leave but my inner soul just KNOWS there’s no way in hell they will win a flag on the MCG coming up against a Geelong or Collingwood. Just won’t happen
