Matthew Guy. Can a mediocre leader with a 3rd rate team win government?

If public healthcare is in such dire trouble, Victorians should ask themselves which party do they trust most to try to repair it.
Given Labor has been in power for 18 of the last 22 years, given Dan has been either Premier or Health Minister for, what, 12 of those years, and given the Health system woes existed before COVID, you couldn’t have ANY confidence in Labor fixing things. How long do you give someone?

Got my first piece of advertising in the mail for the upcoming election.

Libs are wanting to make Health the big issue of the campaign.

Strange after they were undermining the health advice for 2 years which mostly was put in place to limit the hit on the health system.

guess they are counting on the goldfish memory of the average voter
- and in that there are grounds for them to hope (particularly if the health system has some other exacerbation of crisis)

and the urgent care centres are a very bad idea. They used to have a "after hours GP" based at the Northern back in 2006-08 or so; I remember my incandescent rage that this GP would be paid much more per hour than I was as a night ED registrar, yet would come to me to ask advice on how to interpret Xrays. Sometimes the after hours GP post was filled with someone who previously worked in the ED but decided on GP track (ie a HMO who I had been previously supervising)

I recall that my rage was passed on in my usual intemperate fashion to the ED director at the time, and eventually the program got axed.

Many years ago our local doctor would do xrays and plaster broken arms etc, there was also a casualty section at hospitals that kept the ED for only ambulances. It worked well then but I suppose it was expensive

anyone interested in a detailed discussion from folks within construction, planning and finance (both private and public - suspect some of the posters are senior public service bureaucrats given the commentary) should click on the following link

setting aside the occasional nimby criticisms, you get a reasonably objective examination of the issues/problems involved from a range of professional perspectives ..... it largely dispenses with the usual political hysteria that comes with projects like this ..... well worth the read

Everyone working under this guy is also incompetent. Watching their ad tonight and they make public transport sound like a useless waste.

Fair enough if you want to argue that health is a greater priority - but your ads are telling people you don’t care about public transport. Which people rely on.

A total misrepresentation of the cost of the SRL, by that Guy

If you do dig into the numbers, you'll find something very unusual - not a mistake that the PBO's made, but a quirk of what the Coalition requested. See, this costing is not just taking a look at what it would cost to build SRL between now and 2035 (just SRL East) or 2053 (SRL East + North), it is estimating the costs to build, maintain, and operate SRL between now and 2085 - more than thirty years after construction ends.

Sneaky f..ks

It's in cases like this where I would really love the Liberals to be a competent, public concious alternative which I could trust to build, rather than sell and burn down our institutions.

I really would.

The bone crushing irony of the calls not to sign any contracts ahead of the election is clearly lost on these morons.
Plus how ******* stupid when the immediate Labor response was "we aren't planning to as new major contracts relating to the SRL aren't expected to be signed until next year at the earliest"

Essentially they just advertised that Labor aren't going to do what the Liberals did.

The Box Hill tent if exploited properly could bring down a tried Labour government.
It's Labor. You undermine the objectivity of your analysis by making that mistake.
There no doubt that the Government's Achilles heal is Health. The Andrews government has had more than enough tikme to fix Victoria's Health system.

It's not that Andrews doesn't know the system. He was Health minister from 2006 to 2010 and of course eight years as Premier.

As I've said before, there are four main ministries in State Government;

1. Law and Order
2. Public Transport
3. Education
4. Health

It's a gimme that Libs have Law and order whilst Labour have Public transport and Education. Health is the toss up.
This is suspect after Covid, after the Libs have supported antilockdown measures and have the perception of having attacked Andrews for locking down. Whether or not this is true, Andrews controlled the freedom protest movements and policed their ringleaders; if you sought to breach Covid rules, he had you arrested.

You cannot simultaneously call him Dictator Dan and have him as excessive on crime whilst calling Law and Order a gimmie for the other team. The two ideas are incongruous.
IF Matthew Guy can come up with a logical plan to fix the Health system then he will win. It's a big ask.

Make this election about Victoria's Health system/crisis and Matthew Guy has a chance.
I think you're grasping at straws.

This is the same Premier that put elderly people in room arrest in their nursing homes, created mental health issues for thousands of young school children by isolating them from their peers. Ramped up the pandemic to hysterial levels.

Andrews though his actions proves the is a fine line between socialism and fascism.

I don't want to be unnecessarily rude here.

Without going into either fascism or socialism too deeply, socialism features collectivisation of industry and resources and the redistribution of the profits to everyone equally. Fascism uses society and government to collect resources and give it to those at the top.

These two ideas are completely incompatible, and neither of them apply to Dan Andrews.
