Another insipid effort in the 2's. Smashed by Richmond's 2nd's....

I know this guy has potential but intensity levels are disturbing for someone who has been given a few chances to shine. If everything Ihear about him getting gnarky about not getting picked for seniors is true then it doesn't bode well.

Consistently second to the ball, weak efforts, going to ground and no follow up?? You have age on your side althouh football clubs don't have the patience they used to anymore - top draft pick or not!!!

On a positive note - Pat McCarthy looked great and blossoming nicely!

I thought Watto did much better in the first half than McCarthy. Watson didn't play much after half time from what I saw and McCarthy got a move on after that.

We shouldn't compare them anyway and we sure as hell shouldn't be knocking a young KPP. He's only been in the system for a year and a bit and we all said he'd take a couple of years when he got drafted.

I love reading concerns about the development of young KPP.

Ben Reid More Athlete than Footballer

Ben Reid - I don't care what you say, he's a dud

Nathan Brown

What's happened to Nathan Brown and Ben Reid

I am not yet convinced by nathan brown!

I am curious; where do you think Nathan Brown is at in his development after 30 games?

Nathan Brown

How do you solve a problem like Nathan Brown?

Nathan Brown forward please...

Josh Kennedy Immobility.

Can everyone get off Josh Kennedy's back already?

Josh Kennedy will not show his worth again this week :(

Josh Kennedy? Gimme a break...

Henderson-What do we do ?

Henderson-Found his position

Henderson

How long can we carry Henderson up forward?

You mean we offloaded a All Australian FF and gained a player who couldn't hack it at CHF, the position he was traded for?

We offloaded a train wreck of an individual.

Henderson kicked 25 goals as a forward in his first year at the club.

Where were the calls that he couldn't hack it as a forward back then?

You couldn't possibly be suggesting that we made a mistake with that trade.

What's this rubbish? As a 20yo first year player to our club, with a post-Fev forward line still under construction, he kicked 25 goals playing as our CHF; not a bad return. People are expecting way too much of young players these days.

Last year Hendo was recovering from hip surgery similar to Murphy's of 09/10 and was stupidly brought back too early. If he was given the same chance to play himself into form forward as he was in defense, he would have been fine.

IMO he's a natural forward and should be played there. If there's a role for him at CHB, then I can deal with him playing there, but playing him deeper to plug holes isn't where this team will get the best out of him.

This thread is seriously poor form. The NBs will take some time to settle down - Robert Hyde admitted as much when he said that his coaching plan had changed to suit Carlton. This means the big men learning to swing between both ends - Rowe down back and Watson forward (something I've actually always wanted to see). Plus the midfield stars missing from last year's team. I thought, in light of this team upheaval, Watson did alright for a kid.

Several games where he struggled up forward. Just my opinion, however why was he moved down back, if he was meant to be our forward line saviour?

Oh no, we won that trade by far. But Fev being a knob aside, he was still a quality forward.

A McLaren F1 is a quality car but you wouldn't get much use out of it if it looked like this ;)

Great way of putting it Clay, Fev lasted 1 year in Brisbane, Hendo is entering his 3rd year at Carlton. Hendo is a ten year player just like watson, McCarthey and Mitchell will all hopefully be, we won on the Fevola trade, the only mistake we made in that draft was to part with pick 11 for Brock, who seeing was playing yesterday isnt going to be in the team on Thursday night. We are alot better team with out fevola than what we would be now if he was still with us. People need to be patient with players like Watson, McCarthey and Mitchell, remember they are our future, Fevola was our past. bring on 2012..

Why is there always someone out there whinging about our young KPP talent? Seriously he has been on our list for a total of ONE SEASON so give the guy a chance! Same shit was being said about Kennedy back in the day now look at him he's one of the gun KPF's in the league and nobody on this forum wouldn't want him back now.

If he still doesn't show anything after another few years, then complain! It's not like we could have taken a gun instead, in fact Darling is the only one who has shown something who was taken after Watson in the draft. Be patient.

For you, and all the others with a shit memory, Jamison was injured and we didn't have any other fit key defenders.

This is an idiotic thread.

Plus I fail to see the negative in a quality but developing CHF been able to hold down a role as a CHB. ..

Edit: As for Watson, while I'm disappointed that he isn't living up to the hype, I'm not disappointed with him directly, just my own expectation. .. He still has plenty of time to develop, make mistakes and try again. .. Some here are just taking out their frustration on a developing KPP that had a lot of hype for his super boot. .. Give it some time. ..

Watched the game yesterday, he made some mistakes, as they all did.

Too early to write him off given he spent a lot of time forward and a fair bit on the bench (injured?).

McCarthy was very quiet early and was told by the coach at 3/4 time he needed to give them something and double his output from the first 3/4 in the last. Showed a bit as well, but that is not what the thread is about.

Time to get some perspective, it is the first game of the season for a second year KP player. Not the time to be disappointed he didn't dominate from the opening bounce.

Lets not get into this debate again shall we. The quicker people get over the train wreck that Fev was the better. He is never coming back and Hendo is tracking nicely so end of story.

This thread is about Matty Watson so feel to debate the issue at hand while staying on topic. :thumbsu:

As for the thread itself it is way to premature and people are dreaming if they think 18yo KPP's are going to play senior footy from the get go against the more AFL hardened bodies that are going around even at reserve level.

It takes a few seasons at least and 50 senior games before we will see Matty blossom and we need patience just like every other club shows when developing young raw KPP kids. To judge Matty before this stage of his career is immature and just knit picking that never ends well so i do not give this thread a long life.

Ridiculous thread.

He's a 19 year old kid starting his second year of senior footy ffs.

To put that in perspective, back in the day he would have still been eliigible to play Under 19's in 2011.

3 senior games, and only one them had Jamison or Henderson in the same team, so he's been out there swinging in the breeze.

On this very rare occasion, how about we cut him some slack.

His mobility and turning circle can be a worry but that can be worked on. And besides, wasn't the exact same thing said about Hurley

His defending needs some work but when he gets to the ball he seems to have good control of it and has a raking kick. Indeed the tools are good.

1st game or 100th game My biggest issue with Watson is his speed. It is no where near Hurleys ,Reids,Henderson, Kennedys or Browns. If they called Hurley slow, which i don't agree with then what do you call Watsons speed?

If he can't reach a certain level of speed then i for one am worried. Would lik eto see a bit more mongrel in him as well. don't worry about afl ready,he is barely vfl ready at the moment.

His speed is actually O.K. On occasions he has tired and loped around like an old man though.
Turning circle isn't great and may never be. Does need to get his body in the right shape, to suit his role though.
His game understanding and methods need work. If he's prepared to listen and learn, he'll come through.

If that is th ecase then he didn't showcase it against North the othe rday.
Losing 10 kg wouldn't harm the cause, the guy is massive. Maybe too big. Not fat big, but can't imagine his current size would help with his speed. Would love Carlton to work on his short burst speed as well.
