THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Just a quick question for the posters . If Maynard jumped like that but it was one of his team mates he was going to collide with instead of Brayshaw do you think he drops the shoulder or puts his hands out ?
He didnt drop his shoulder and he did put his hands out. (Look at the images from the side). He braced protecting his ribs and put his hands out to protect Brayshaw. Maynards hands missed Brawshaw but the sholder didnt. He would have done the exact same thing if it was a teamate. Maynard wasnt even really moving forward it was mostly Brayshaws momentum (not his fault) that caused most of the impact. If Maynard had come down on a stationary Brayshaw no damage would have been done.

Well Done Good Job GIF by Freeform

This Buzz? Or the one from Toy Story?

What absolute horse s**t this league has become.

He jumps in the air to try and spoil and now has to somehow move in the air to avoid collision. He needs one of the JFK major bullets in this scenario.

This league has lost the olot. Yes protect the head but Christ we will start injuring players by their attempts to avoid collision. Farce!!!

Had he put his hands out both players are protected - Brayshaw wouldn't have been stretchered off unless there was a clash of heads.

But because Maynard is wired different and is an an aggressive footballer his instinct (nothing wrong with it) was to turn his body hence a worse physical outcome for Brayshaw

Can’t shoulder someone though. End of the day they did the right thing send it to the tribunal let’s let them decide

At what point are players with glass chins a risk to the rest of the competition.

"Severe impact" is totally dependant on the player's durability.

Some players can take a big whack and it's like nothing ever happened.

Someone else could be ruled ineligible for the Brownlow due to a relatively innocuous action that concusses someone like a Brayshaw.

Now that's a smart and succinct way to summarise it.

He might not have wanted to knock Brayshaw out but he wanted to make him earn it, so that means it went beyond a smother and he should cop a ban.

But I honestly reckon he's going to get off. There is way to much cheer leading from the likes of Robbo , barret , Browne etc. It's actually slightly disturbing. And not in the aspect of concussion is so bad etc etc more in the aspect that it resembles some sort of dictatorship where the media is told what to say.

Fair to say the MRO is redundant and we are now at the point where players spin a wheel live on TV to determine their fate.

  • free to play
  • fines ranging 5-50k
  • week suspensions from 1-10 weeks
  • must play for the other side for a half
  • plays next game in runners

Any other prizes on the wheel in this chook raffle?

Brayshaw wasn't a threat to him though and wasn't able to protect himself like Maynard did, Maynard failed in his duty of care to Brayshaw.

He may not have intended to knock Brayshaw out but he was reckless by jumping in the air and putting his shoulder into Brayshaw's head.

He had other options that wouldn't have caused Brayshaw to be injured as badly as he was.
He was reckless by jumping to smother the ball? I think not. It’s an actually done every game. Players just don’t run into the man on the mark generally
