Please no J-Mac. He isn't ready. Hopefully both the 'Caff and Medhurst come in.

im sorry but i don't want caff back in against stKilda he cannot kick a set shot to save his life, bring him back for the tigers game, hope leon or med comes in, just to add to our forward pressure.

I really hope jack can take the opportunity as the go to man this week.

Unlikely that he would be playing deep forward. He should be rewarded for his VFL form.

Where is J-Mac?
Don't worry, MM's other lovechild will play seniors by the end of the year if he stays fit.

He has had 3 games back in the VFL, and looked close to the old "J-MAC" on Sunday.:)

On thread topic though, Caff was awesome, a little bit like Dawes was the last time he was in the VFL, just a step above that level.:thumbsu:

i think jack should play deep forward with dawes chf but also leading deeper. medders and leon in for cloke and either blair or ... i dont know who else deserves to get dropped. maybe tarks or sidebum but both would be realllllly stiff

I really dont get the love for the Caff! Sure he is ok, hasnt disgraced himself at league level save for those inexplicable shots for goal which was clearly stage fright as he has a good kicking technique generally.

But, when we have depth and selection dilemmas as we do, and we play a top team, he should not be that high in the pecking order unless we have a spot for a defensive tagger or similar.

We have forward issues with the outs and a general lack of cohesion in this area of recent times and v the aints especially.

The Caff is simply not the answer (medders, leon, dick if fit and maybe a punt on rounds even or fraser have to be the main contenders) as he has not really done anything outstanding at AFL level imo to be brought in under these circumstances.

Inski: Leon, Medders,
Outski: Cloke (susp), Anthony

only other would be Goldy for Maxwell

Look, on the chopping block to get Medders and Leon in is Anthony, Blair, or Sidey. Has to be Anthony.

A lot of ball needs to be directed to Dawes so Dawson starts shitting himself and their backline starts losing confidence

Totally agree. At best he has been ok on the odd occassion but we have far more capable players waiting to come in. Medhurst and Davis offer far more to the team atm and to bring in another fringe player in such a big game is like playing russian roulette. We need our best team possible to have any chance against the Saints.

The only out I can see if Macaffer comes in is Blair but that would be a little unfair.

yes you can because there's better players to come in

I would venture, not McCaffer though.

I am all for giving young blokes a go, but if I had to rate my impressions of McCaffer when tried, his impact etc. he would be well behind Blair.

That's just being honest.
I have nothing against McCaffer but Blair has slotted in very nicely and has not shown any chinks yet.

Still time for them to show, but in the absence of any concerns he's up at the moment.

Drop Blair???

The kid was good again plenty more to go before him, has deserved his spot and deserves to keep it big fan like this lad
Absolutely, it's very rare for debutants to play that well in first 2 games (less rare to have a good flash in the pan 1st game and then drop off in next game), suggests a lot of improvement ahead and probably a star in the making.

The fact he was one of the best in the vfl state game - that must be very close to afl level.
Everyone says he is too small but there are definite advantages to being tiny in a footy game. If you could have a good 3 foot player imagine how he could be in and under and how hard to tackle. Wouldn't be in and under for him, more like darting through a forest. Might not be able to kick v far though...

I wasn't suggesting for a second to drop Blair on form. No chance. He's played two very very solid games. It was more of a drop due to just I experience against a mature st kilda outfit. Sorry guys! Didn't mean to upset u :(

Macaffer is an interesting option.

He would be the ideal match-up for Goddard.

He can play back pocket...has done so many times for the senior side this year on utility players.

He can play midfield...racked up the footy last week in the VFL

But most importantly, he is a great forward tag option on Goddard. Macaffer has made a name as a forward at VFL level so can make himself dangerous. He matches Goddard in marking power, and has good size to go body on body.

If Macaffer comes in, it's at the expense of Tarks who has been playing a forward defensive role. Tarks is no match for Goddard, so it could be a match-up thing.

Agree that Blair should keep getting a run. I don't think he'll be intimidated by bigger St.Kilda bodies and will play well. I think if it were a final, Blair would not make the final squad....but would like to see him tested in a big game this week.

The Caff played well on Chapman and Griffen earlier in the year, he should come in and tag Goddard or Montagna

Chapman got 30 possessions to Macaffer's 15. Chapman was in Geelong's best few players. This is not my idea of doing well on someone!

No he wasn't. A quick look at the votes on the Geelong board for that game will confirm as much. Chapman got most of his touches floating around half-back - and at the time he was the form player of the competition - so it was a big win for us.

Not sure Macaffer had all that much to do with it (more our pressure as a team), but if Chapman has as "good" a game against us next time round, I'd be over the moon.

Thomas on Montagna is the dream match up this round.

MacCaffer having another good game in the VFL is also a good match-up
