Dobbercrap - response to gutless attack

When I logged in earlier, I saw some person has decided to make a personal attack on Travis Cloke for Jake King incident. Travis cant defend himself here so I thought I might say a few things.

First of all, I usually consider people who say gutless things behind someone's back, to be a reflection of their words. ie. if they say gutless things, then they are gutless.

This particular gutless gentleman suggests that Travis Cloke should have covered up Jake King's actions during the Richmond game for a number of reasons.....and lets go through them now.

He's suggests that he has a firm belief that players shouldn’t dob, except in the case of racial/religious vilification or eye gouging. I suggest that the writer hasn't displayed much character in writing a character assassination in an anonomous blog, so who really cares what beliefs this gutless anonomous person has?

He goes on to suggest that anybody who goes out onto a field where Australian Rules football is being played should expect to be hit by talentless players who can only play at AFL level if they hit people. I suggest to the gutless anonomous writer that I prefer to see talented footballers than players whose only talent is to hit opposition players in packs.

The gutless anonomous writer than goes on to state that umpires, police etc dont like people who dob in. Personally, I dont determine my morality on the judgements of cops and umpires. I tell the truth and I dont like protecting gutless bullies like King. Travis Cloke probably feels the same.

The gutless anonomus writer than says that he thinks "it is fair to say that Cloke will have lost the respect of plenty of players and fans alike."

I can say that Cloke hasn't lost my respect. I can also say that I probably wouldnt respect someone who is so gutless that they write anonomously in a blog questioning the character of a person that they dont know.

Football is football, and everyone has a right to any opinion. However, Travis Cloke shouldnt have to put up with gutless anonomous writers questioning his integrity.

Re: Dobbercrap - response to gutless attack

As much as I agree that "the code" is juvenile rubbish, I have to take issue with the way a large % of Pies posters have been defending Cloke by attacking King.

Whether King is objectionable or short or talented is completely besides the point, and those even engaging that argument are doing themselves a disservice.

It shouldn't matter whether Jake King or Matthew Richardson punches you in the face. You are under no obligation to protect them; but only because it's a moronic act of violence, and not because they are or aren't a talented footballer.

As an aside to the OP: There is nothing inherently gutless about anonymous writing. It may prevent you from launching an ad hominem attack (although evidently not so much, given your repeated calls of "gutless"), but otherwise it makes little difference whether or not the article is attributed to a real person.

Re: Dobbercrap - response to gutless attack

I would suggest that I wasnt attacking King, although I understand that other Pie supporters might have done so. King makes a living out of upsetting opposition players by hitting them etc. That is a statement of fact....it's not attacking him.

I disagree with your criticism of my allegation that the writer was gutless because he has anonomously questioned Cloke's character. I think that there is a big difference between criticising a player anonomously and putting your name to your opinion. I've got nothing against people writing anonomously. I do it myself here. However, I wouldnt hide behind a nickname when I was questionning a person's character. I think it would be gutless to do that....and that's why I said it.

Ironically, I'm sure a few intelligent readers have realised that I'm anonomously questioning the writer's character. I can only say that I wasn't going to let him do it unchallenged. If he wants to know my name and address than he can send a private message and I'll provide the info.

Re: Dobbercrap - response to gutless attack

What's the point of having his name? So that you can track him down and play fisticuffs? Or is it to rhyme it with some slightly amusing cuss word?

I didn't mean to make a whole thing out of it, but it's just such an antiquated notion.

Re: Dobbercrap - response to gutless attack

I kinda sunk my teeth into that debate and must say I was surprised and heartened by how many people knocked that blog down. As I claimed in one of my responses, the OP was ridiculous and it still is. Not only in regards to the incident specifically, but in regards to the message that blog is sending out to people.

Re: Dobbercrap - response to gutless attack

People shouldn't let football issues worry them so much. Have we forgotten that it's meant to be about fun.

Thread merged. Please post any Cloke/King incident stuff in this thread from now on. No need for a plethora of threads on the subject.

Plethora sounds like a disease of the penis.

"After having sex with Jenny I woke up with a nasty case of plethora."

Yup kind of like some of the debate about said incident. Seemed to fit ;)

Very much so

I called king a dog mostly because the richmond supporters applauding him made me sick and i wanted him to know what an opposition supporter thinks of him. His brothers then promised to belt me and any other collingwood supporter in sight, i laughed and told them to settle its a practice match. They continued their we'll get ya i continued watching the game.

David Cloke walked up up behind him said something like "dont worry ill handle this" then told the king family to STFu which caused King's dad to say something about Travis. Which made David fume, at which stage the siren went i stood, Cloke let a few choice words fly and we all walked off.

I have no doubt what the King family said about travis (i wont repeat it ao please dont ask) meant there was no chance he would back King up, what i would give credit to jake for, he did tell his brothers not to be stupid when they stood up yelling at all and sundry
Amazing stuff!
So King's brothers made a lot of noise? That would be Wayne, Joe, Shae, Sol and of course his sister Faye.......
Yes?

I think what the main issue is and not that I agree or know for sure is the MaGuane apparent biting incident. From what is reported he made referance to Cloke having bitten him in last years game but chose not to persue it. Thats what I see as Richmonds reason to gripe rightly or wrongly I dont care.
You are just a Collingwood bashing troll that switched teams from St.Kilda to Geelong because they won the premiership. I read your posts on the Collingwood board just to see if you behave differently here, but you don't, and no wonder you're on my ignore list because you're completely ignorant and you have nothing to say.

Yes McGuane made reference to Cloke biting him last year because it seems that it actually happened. He did not pursue it though because he had stuck his digits in Cloke's mouth, so any incidental bite was completely his fault. The commentators at the time stated it was a stupid thing for McGuane to do, and the AFL probably felt that way as well, so there were not any charges laid.
There is a good article in The Age today which is bucking the trend
Rohan Connolly is a good and fair minded journalist, and what he said in that article is logical and common sense.
What can you say about Richmond anyway? They have a great club theme song... and that's about it.
They don't have a great theme song though. Unless a club song mentions the name of the team, then it can't be great at all, and their song does not mention Richmond's name once. It's too impersonal because it could be about the Heidelberg Football Club.

It is pretty good, I played for the Tigers in the Amatures, and sung it every week, as we were dominant. It is perfect for a side that it it that obvious they will be merged or relocated with in 5-7 years, it will fit perfectly for where ever they go next.

Can they be the Tassie Tigers? That would be the obvious direction wouldn't it for sure. Their supporters would compliment the Taswegians perfectly I reckon.

I like Collingwood's more because it mentions the name of the club twice, as well as the nickname of the club once. Of course that is not the only criteria for a good club song, but in my opinion, every club song should mention the name of the club as the first priority, and then construct the rest of the lyrics around that. Richmond's, Essendon's and Melbourne's club songs for example don't do that.

Not to mention the only club song that mentions the supporters :thumbsu:

Interesting fact Sherrif. Got me singing them all to test out the fact, but I think your spot on.

With the Tigers song, it was a good song to sing after countless wins, because it keeps reminding us, that we fight and fight and win, risking head and skin, and all that. But for an underperforming side, like Richmond is, can't be too confidence building.
