RIP Stan 'Pops' Heal

MELBOURNE is saddened to hear of the passing of 1941 premiership player Stan ‘Pops’ Heal.

Heal, 90, passed away during the early hours of Wednesday morning in Western Australia.

Lynda Carroll Tribute To 'Pops' Heal

IN 2010, TWO VERY special Melbourne Football Club identities were inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame.

The first of these was Brian Dixon, legendary figure of the 1950s and 1960s. The second was Stan ‘Pops’ Heal, whose remarkable contribution to the game and the story of the Club was summarized in the 1941 annual report, following the third of a hattrick of VFL flags:

Any updates on Jim Stynes lately? I went to check his twitter page, but it hasn't been updated since October. Is he still having Chemotherapy?

Best I can offer is that in recent photos (last week) he was looking quite healthy and had a fair bit of hair back, I'm no doctor but that might suggest he is off the chemo.

If you want to have a look for yourself check out the MFC Facebook page, sorry I would provide a link but at work FB is blocked.

Does anyone have twitter?

The reason I ask is Icaught the end of the news last night & heard something like:
"Lance Armstrong twittered that he has been to see Jum Stynes & he is putting up a good fight."
Can anyone confirm this?

True story, mate. Jimma visited Lance in Adelaide this week. The big fella looks great, too. :thumbsu:
That's awesome always great to see a story on Jimmy. I was very worried about him with his lack of tweets and the stuff coming off 'ology.

Great to see Jimmy still fighting, it's lifted my spirits. I just hope he keeps us informed a bit more (not the Jones every 5 mins standard but a tweet once a month would be nice just to show his fans that he is still fighting). KEEP FIGHTING CHAMP.

The fast paced nature of the football industry requires the person to be well organized and flexible in their approach to work ad-hoc when needed. Knowledge of football is useful but knowing how to communicate to a diverse customer base across a number of platforms is most highly regarded.[/FONT]

Hey Fellas,

Hope you don't mind me posting this here - I am Toby from Footy Tragic (A Dream Team website), and we currently have our pilot up on our website: http://www.footytragic.com/show.php

It includes talk about the pre-season, as well as an interview with Cale Morton who was a great sport! Definitely worth checking out for his segment where he tells us why he is in for a huge 2011.

Daily articles on the site begin this coming Monday! Look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts!

Yeah I saw that, this was my application process:

- Went onto mfc.com
- clicked on the link for the job
- Looked at the position description & realised I have none of the required skills
- Was disappointed for 10 seconds
- Left the site

yes I did the exact same thing.

The Age - TV time for young Dees

SIX of Melbourne's gun youngsters have used the bye week to become immersed in the television industry, flying to Sydney to meet and receive instruction from the likes of Lachlan Murdoch and Foxtel boss Kim Williams in the middle of the TV rights negotiations.
Whereas players traditionally use the break to rest or head home, Tom Scully, Jack Trengove, Jack Grimes, Jack Watts, James Frawley and Cale Morton spent yesterday and Tuesday in Sydney, visiting Channel Ten yesterday, Foxtel on Tuesday and also media company DMG, the owner of radio stations Nova and 5AA.

- My role in the coaches' box: Viney

MY ROLE in the coaches’ box has changed significantly over the years.

Having started with Melbourne as a young assistant coach in 2000, through to my previous line roles with Hawthorn and Adelaide, my positions in the coaches’ box have varied along the journey.

As a line coach I have predominantly focused on stoppages and transitions from stoppages, whereas now my role is to be one step removed from the line coaches and coaching staff.

In my new role in the coaching box I coordinate a lot of information between the line coaches and Dean Bailey or Craig Lees, who does our rotations, on the bench.

Communication also comes back the other way. Dean and Craig also need to know information from the line coaches and whether we need to make a change or alter a specific match-up.

I then pass the information onto the line coaches to make the decision. Then I will confirm match-ups with Craig.

At times, there might be occasions when we are discussing certain positions or moves, which one of the coaches might bring up.
