Vic Melbourne's Sudanese gangs

+1 for central London being alright to walk around in. I've done it many a night drunk off my arse and never had any issues. I'd be skeptical in south London though around Brixton etc.
I live down near Brixton, haven't had problems. It's sketchy but not that bad. No worse than walking through Adelaide at 2am.

I've always said that i feel safer walking around Melbourne at night than Adelaide

In Melbourne you can easily avoid the dickhead area

In Adelaide everyone goes out to the same strip

There is no gang presence in Melbourne and the youth crime is the same shit we have always grew up with

Where are these No Go zones? Legitimate question as my wife and I are staying in the CBD next month and I haven't been to Melbourne in about 10 years so no idea how safe it is to just walk around at night.

It's mainly in the Western Suburbs.

WARRING ethnic gangs clashed at a Werribee shopping centre on Saturday night in the latest bout of the violence plaguing Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Witnesses said the main brawl was between Sudanese and Islander males.

A group of up to 10 youths ambushed a carload of men, leading to an all-in brawl, which lasted more than an hour, outside the Pancake Parlour in Werribee Plaza.

Those in the car later tried to drive off, hitting a Werribee man, 22, who was rushed to hospital with leg injuries.

Police who were later confronted by two other aggressive males had to resort to the use of capsicum spray.

Terrified workers at Werribee Plaza say the shopping centre has become a no-go zone after dark.

They told the Herald Sun they were too fearful to work at night, owing to escalating trouble between roving ethnically based gangs. Some restaurants have employed specialist security staff.

YOUNG thugs have hijacked a new estate’s community centre and park, going on nightly vandalism sprees, trashing homes, and terrorising families.

The youths, mostly of African appearance, have turned the Ecoville Community Park in Tarneit, in Melbourne’s west, into a no-go zone.

Hooligans repeatedly “smash and destroy” what was once a family-friendly meeting spot. MTS — the tag for emerging crime gang Menace To Society — is daubed on walls.

Triads from China, Vietnamese drug gangs, Italian dope growers. We've been here before haven't we?

Those other groups had task forces set up to shut them down.

Now it would be racist. So we sit back and do nothing.

Far better to let violent groups think themselves invincible than to actually do something about the problem.

Are the rozzers actually doing nothing though? Or are they just not being sufficiently draconian for your taste?

When it takes a number of violent assaults on police to even admit there is a problem its hard to believe they are actively doing something about it.

Vic Police have been lying about crime statistics for years. Even to the point of influencing elections.

it is a basic part of being a normal human being to not rob or bash your fellow human beings, it is probably more important for people who have been rescued from a war torn violent shit hole to be a good citizen and give back to society-this is not happening, when you see hundreds of one race gather to commit kaos something is wrong. we have the politicians and spin doctors talking absolute rubbish to us treating us like idiots I have talked to police who are at the coal face and their view is very different indeed and to everyone who says deport these scum bags they are mainly Australian citizens we are stuck with them they are our problem.

people can say it is a media beat up and bleeding hearts can say it is an exaggeration but at the end of the day Sudanese etc only make up a small percentage of our population yet everyday we see pictures of Africans committing violent or hear from victims, you cant fix a problem until you admit you have a problem

Sentencing is one issue..and this is something the Andrews haters fail to understand. We do not live in a police state like Sir Joh's QLD in the 70's. There is a simple concept known as the separation of powers. That concept ensures there is no collusion or pressure on the courts by the Government of the day, therefore eliminating corruption.

As to the gangs, is it as bad as is being made out?

I grew up in the 80's. The time of the Broady boys and the Newport boys. It was a Melbourne wide turf war waged between both. Crime was rampant and yet it never became a political football under Cain and Labor. Things just happened.

I see the African kids all the time. All bar 1% of them are harmless.

I can see problems across other groups too. I can remember getting rolled and whacked in the head by a group of Islanders for no reason. There is an issue with Islanders and Maoris and their alcohol consumption. You still have the Asian gangs and Triads and Matthew guy's mates in the Melbourne Mafia!

And that can be explained by the media beat up; you might like to read the article posted earlier for a discussion on that topic.

I often walk around the CBD at night, particularly after the footy or work and in the main it is pretty safe for a major city as there are plenty of people around and while I have never known of any no-go areas it is like any large crowd of people with a few dodgy types but most people are doing their own thing.

yes no corruption but lots of incompetence and derelict of duty

The sentencing side is one arm. There are other issues such as political appointments, the failure to manage the bail system and the directions to the force which all have contributed to the current issues.

Blahblahblah.....how are community programs funding going?
I heard an ex copper talking about the 3174 gang issue that was around when I was growing up and he said we can’t police ourselves out of the problem, back then they set up community youth programs to tackle the issues with great success. As far as he was aware these programs had been shut down once the problems had been fixed.
Throwing them into jails will only make them more hardened criminals.
Deportation? How, we are talking about Australian citizens.

for me it all started years ago when the flood gates were opened and the wrong people were let in who wouldn't fit in went straight onto social security for a generation and now crime is the end result of boredom non-assimilation and the weakest justice system in the world

Nothing more than a bunch of no-hopers who think that living in Noble Park or St.Albans is akin to living in South Central and want to pretend that they are all gangsta.

Unfortunately they give a bad name to the entire Sudanese community, many of whom are honest, hard-working people who just want to make a better life for themselves.

Over 10 years ago I went to a rave there and saw a bunch of yardies snatch everyones phones who were filming the "Narni Shakers" (of which Ringo Starr's granddaughter was a member). Tbh I was on their side, this was when everyone had shitty Nokia 7s with low megapixel cameras. Why the **** would you film that when it's going to be grainy as hell.

Also met a dude from Siberia with no teeth who offered me heroin. I was like "dude we're at a rave".

Anyway, my point is, maybe Brixton has gentrified because once upon a time it was dodgy as ****.
