And im not ruling out Steven Hill as a bit of a mover. He was impressive all the way through the champ series and we already know how far he can run in a game.

Agree. Very, very smooth mover that usually uses the ball very well. I remember a goal that he kicked on the run, under pressure, from 55 at the Dome, boy can he can give it a good roost. Not sure if he'll be in the top 10, but with his poise and skill you wouldn't think he'd get picked up later than the first round.

If we were to finish say, 10th (hyperthetically) we recieve pick 7. Who do we go for, cause at the moment I see the top 5 being seleceted and they arem in no particular order, Watts, Naitanui, Rich, Hurley and Hartlett, with a blanket of up to 20 players for the end of the first round, who do we go for, alot of talk about Ziebell, what is he really like, didnt really notice him much, I think Robinson is the one who is really rising, has been playing good consistant footy for the Devisl (VFL) and doing well. seems a really likely type.

I have somehow convinced myself on this. If we dont get a shot at Hurley , which looks likely , then i am going with Steven Hill.
He is not the absolute inside mid that a lot think we should take. He is more of an outside player who can get in and find the ball but it is not his best role. What i do like about him is he has a huge engine already. Has good skills on both sides and is a long kick. He is good around the stopages and he has pace. Can play HF/mid/wing/HB and was a consistant performer in all the Champ games.
He may be seen as a bit of a reach for pick 7 but personally i think he has the goods. If we take Hill first then i will be really hoping to get Tom Lynch in the second round.

He seems like Ricky Dyson mark II, (But better :D), he could be a good asset to our already improving young brigaide , what is his best position though, thought he is more of a HBF player, in the mould of a David Myers, another west austrailan to our already WA dominated list, Shit we should relocate their :D:D.

Why not Ziebell, seems to be a naturally gifted player, a leader. someone who can come stright into AFL footy.

No reason, but I have a feeling Tom Swift will be the steal of the draft, he is a absolute gun midfielder.

looking at essendons team and future talent (myers, gumby, neagle) then its quite obvious that FB is the position of concern as posted by many others. ryder is CHB and should not be moved.

it appears michael hurley is the best candidate to fill the void at FB so he should be a 1st round priority for the bombers. should EFC miss out then it sounds like there's not too many other highly rated defenders so the strategy of draft best player should come into play.

given our likely pick if hurley goes i'd be happy if they went with mckernan or vickery. mckernan could be anything - he moves like his brother, is still raw with plenty of upside even though he's quite decent already. would be an unbelievable forward line with gumby, mckernan, neagle, davey, jetta, monfries!

in the 2nd round i'd be delighted if zaharakis was available as could be a gun wingman - his pace and skills are impressive.

Is there any FBs worthy of a 2nd round pick? Is Trengove a FB? Would he slip down to our second pick considering his injury - or will he go before then?

Depending on how his injury has progressed don't be surprised if we took Trengove with our pick if Hurley is gone. We have spoken with him, not that that means a lot.

I think that we will draft at least 1 defender as it is obvious where our deficiencies are and i have a lot of confidence in the list management at our club.....now.

I was speaking to ant about this same subject on the weekend, and I agree with what he is saying, that Paddy is pretty much our FB any ways, he plays on the big power forwards, played on Franklin (V Hawthron) played on Brown (V Brisbane) so he is pretty much our FB any ways, not sure where pears is at, wheter he needs another year in the gym or not, but IMO that we will not get hurley as we will win to many games, sure it would be great if we could get him, but I highly doubt it, if that is the case, then I agree that Trengrove seems to be a likely type who can play key defensive posts, would be ideal,

We might win more games, but I don't think we will finish higher than 10th.

Carlton and Richmond have a fairly smooth run home from here and are pushing hard for a finals birth, as well as the other teams above them.

If we are going to take a "risk" with Trengrove, I'd much rather us take that risk with Tom Swift who suits our needs perfectly. We do not need any more forwards, we already have too many.

I think that Paddy may become our FB, has the pace to go with any FF and the reach to spoil any FF, will onlt get stronger, will alow one of kids (Pears, Lee, Hooker) to play CHB, which is a much easier position to play, if you are weak in a certain area (IE: Hurley: Pace)

Although looking at the ladder cloesly and our remaining games, we may drop games to the Saints, Adelaid (Who are up and about, and the Dogs, Top 2) so will be interesting IMO.

I do wish we could get Hurley, but, who knows in our caper.

We don't really need Mids but we do need defenders.

Hence why i mentioned Trengove as he is a defender and can play Ruck.

Agree that we do need a key defender but you should always go best available, especially with a first round pick. A lot of us will be hoping for Hurley to slip though seeing that he is exactly what we need and would be the best available as well.

Ant or any others who have been watching the games what do you think of this guy? Sounds an interesting prospect and could come cheap.

interested to hear your thoughts on this guy - patrick hayes

seen him play a couple of times, heard hes really improving

and is very versatile...

can anyone shed some light?

We still do lack that A Class mid that wins premierships. If Hurley is gone, I'd take Swift at 7. Honestly the best that could happen would be for Port to come 3rd last..

pick1- Watts (Mel)
pick 2- Rich (WC)
pick 3-Nic Nat (Port)
pick 4- Hartlett or Ziebell (Freo)

That leaves one of Ziebell, Hartlett, Hurley, Swift, etc for Essendon. Hopefull we get pick 5 and just pick Hurley, but if we don't I'd take Swift
