Its so the clubs can be more precise with their list management.

Rather than have to delist everyone and list everyone all in one go which is a relatively blunt instrument, you can delist some, take say one on, wait, have a look at what others did and see who's around, then chop again, or not, depending on what you think you have/can get, maybe add another on, etc, etc.
Like the Central Market on a Friday.

Have they? I thought it will be a new role which will see him develop into coaching but where have they said it will only be a handful of games?

Roo said the other day Thommo still had a lot to give

If the club wanted him as an assistant they could have made him an assistant coach

He is a contracted player for a reason and its not to play sanfl, his best is clearly better than Barlows best, no one in their right mind could compare what Thommo has acheived compared to Barlow, 300 game player most bronwlow votes of a crows player.

One thing with Thommo , which everyone agrees with, his injuries have been minor and not frequent compared to what Barlow has copped. He keeps himself in outstanding shape, infact compare his condition to B Crouch he is one of the best in the AFL. I have more faith in his body holding up than a lot of others throughout the AFL. However I will concede as you get around 30 and over the speed certainly drops of which is looking like Thommo's downside, who knows he may drop a couple of kilo's drop some muscle over summer and quicken his game up, he is capable and I dont think training hard and committing himslf is a problem for thommo.

But I sttill have question marks over Thommo, but if Im going to give anyone the benefit of my doubt it will be him not a ring in from another club.

Do people want change for the sake of it, Thommo is a year by year proposition as harvey was for the Roo's I think barlow is aswell. But what will be the chances of signing him for 3 as Barlow is clearly after his last deal and who ever offers him a lenghty contract will have the front running

Huh? Sorry lost me there. Barlow, faster than PD over 20m?

From the link:

20-Meter Sprint
1. David Gourdis 2.83 sec
2. Steven Gaertner 2.88 sec
2. Clayton Hinkley 2.88 sec
4. Jarrad Grant 2.89 sec
5. Brendan Whitecross 2.91 sec
5. Aaron Joseph 2.91 sec
7. Tayte Pears 2.92 sec
7. Patrick Dangerfield 2.92 sec
9. Jarrhan Jacky 2.93 sec
10. David Zaharakis 2.94 sec

(PD also 2nd on the repeat 30m sprints, and 3rd on the vertical jump)

Why are there two delisted free agent trade periods?
Because players have until the 2nd list lodgement to delist themselves from a team list. Clubs then have a DFA period in which to replace these players.

Yes, I provided two links, the first of which had Barlow's time over 20m. It was "2.89sec for 20m" which is 0.03 seconds above the time above posted for Dangerfield.

So has the club come out and said he will only play a handful of games? If so. When?

Doughty said the following

"Thommo's really aware of what players need - to be given opportunity and games under their belts - but he'll drive the standards and if those guys aren't performing or he's playing better footy, I'm sure he'll be in their best 22."

But then again thats only Doughty and it flies in the face of recruiting barlow to go with Thommo if the club wants to get games under the belt of the up and comers.

Personally think they are well aware Thommo is pretty much cooked. Will probably play early on IMO but fade out after a few rounds. But would bet he is being retained as he will play those few games and be list depth in case of injuries. I also would not underestimate the important role he will have at training and in developing the guys in SANFL games. Having him there as a physical force will help prepare the young guys. As is the case with Pods with our KPPs.

I see Barlow as a replacement for Lyons. He is an upgrade on him.

We do have to replace Lyons AND Thommo.

Out: Lyons and Thompson
In: Barlow and Thompson

I'm believing the club. Thompson will not be best 22 next season. They won't be that dumb to think Barlow and Thommo can play in the same side.

I'm expecting CEY to start the season in the team, before either a draftee or Greenwood takes over.

Maybe they will get Barlow and if his shoulder doesnt hold up, or once he has the plate out of it he may miss some pre season, so just maybe Thommo is an insurance policy for allowing Barlow to get himself into shape and get some pre season done, he may be envisaging to start from rounds 5 to 10 so Thommo can play the first half and Barlow the second unless Thommo is destroying it then they can just play both

I know its a ridiculous suggestion but wouldnt surprise me, would it you ?

Then TSR, you and other Mods have to take the responsibility for the state of the board ....who else shapes the standards ?

You're saying you gave up because of the deteriorating standards  .....that's like the Captain of the Titanic saying " hey, don't look at me, it's not my fault"

I raised this with Drugs Are Bad Mackay? ....he clearly stated he wanted this adversarial style of posting ......even after i posted what you and Kane McGoodwin posted ......got ZERO support then

jenny61_99 put her hand up to be a Mod on this board .......do i need to explain to you why she was not accepted ? ........because the Mods were afraid that the current posting style on this board, that you & Kane (and myself) are criticizing, would change .....that somehow Jenny would be too straight-laced

Maybe Jenny could have assisted to bring back serious footy discussion that i joined the board for .......but that apparently is not the view of certain Mods

So frankly ....suck it up TSR .....because you contributed to the state of play, so you are hardly one to criticize
Look I agree with Sloane Rangers views in his post especially the criticism of posters that come on here just to personally attack other posters with classic example is if Vader posts you can bet certain posters will be on with personal attacks, with another example is the ridicule of Redhorse who passed on information he received with some proven was happening with others not.
I even agree with WW post where he pointed out not appointing Jenny 61 as moderator was done as key people did not want a more disciplined board

Michael Barlow would be a great get, IMHO. We are an experienced mid short. He has great endurance which would complement Sloane and aid us to be a hard running side, is tall for a mid, fairly good speed and finds plenty of the footy...and we don't sacrifice a pick.

I was told last week that MB will be doing a medical test with the AFC, I'm not sure if this has happened yet and I'm not sure if this does mean that we are his preferred option, Barlow might be doing this with all potential suitors.

Apparently he hasn't stopped training since end of season and is in really good nick

Believing the club how? They have said nothing that he wont be playing:

http://www.afc.com.au/news/2016-10-07/midfielders-sign-for-one-more

"The two-time Club Champion and respected leader will continue to mentor Adelaide’s younger onballers, with a view to developing a coaching career once his playing days finish."

Then there is this from Thommo:

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...t/news-story/d11a030f65c21cf8904f050cad7c5966

The very interesting and concerning quote is:

“I feel I still have a lot to contribute not just on game day, but also in mentoring our younger players coming through."

Unless someone can show me otherwise, nothing has come from the club or Thommo that he will be playing a reduced role in the seniors.

The most upsetting thing about not getting Barlow for me is that Thommo will likely fill the spot that Barlow could have filled.

That, and we did not go out of our way to improve our midfield.

Then again, I'm not super fussed about this one.
