Osborne.

May be a little bias, but I like his ticker and the way it ironed out his discipline issues in 2008. Went from being a guy who I thought was a fringe player due to his temperament to a permanent and necessary fixture in our team.

Loves a leap, can kick like a mule ( See the Adelaide game where he bombed one from 5 meters inside the square), does some wonderful team play and puts his head over the pill constantly.

I honestly don't think Davis can match him him in the ticker stakes.

Leon Davis by a very long way.

I don't mind Osborne but Davis can turn matches and kick quality goals at very opportune moments or pin point a difficult pass to a leading forward.

He has taken a lot of the inconsistency out of his game and i expect to to continue to improve.

Davis will win Collingwood games, Osborn won't win any for Hawthorn.

Is this a joke post??

Osborne has already won games for Hawthorn.

Osborne can also do these things.

Its actually one of the better player comparisons. Osborne is better in the air, and more enamoured of handballing, but Davis does get through a lot of tackling.

Davis tends to stand out more, but wouldn't stand out nearly as much were he part of the current forward structure that Osborne finds himself in. Conversely, Osborne would have more of a presence were he playing in the Magpie forward structure.

Either could come out in front in this sort of poll, but I've ran with Osborne out of Hawk bias, as much as anything.

This speaks volumes for Osborne's improvement over the past two seasons, however, given that for years prior to 2007, he was always high on my list of preferred delistees.

Spot on Merv. Davis is probably one of the best users of the ball in the league, and now he has added consistency to his game. Osborne is a solid trier in a very good side. Nothing more.

You see, I have a problem with this statement, because it's used to describe almost all of our team.

It seems no real credit is given to anyone except Buddy and Hodge, and even Hodge has been lumped with the 'good player in a fantastic team' call.

How many players from the 2008 premiership team have been described as only being good because of the players around them, here's a list of ones I've seen...

Ladson
Guerra
Brown
Gilham
Sewell
Rioli
Bateman
Roughead
Lewis
Osborne
Williams
Birchall
Ellis

It is such a lazy way to describe a player. "He's only good becasue he has blah blah blah playing with him". Bollocks.

I'm not asking for everyone to laud Hawthorn players with superlatives, but gee, we have some under-rated blokes getting around who play there part more than admirably.

Osborne is more than a 'solid trier'. He's a very decent footballer who can do some inspirational things at times, very similar to Davis.

Ladson Solid
Guerra Solid
Brown Very good player
Gilham Average, aided by game plan
Sewell Good player
Rioli May be outstanding, up to him.
Bateman See Sewell
Roughead As Above
Lewis As Above
Osborne AS DESCRIBED
Williams Good player
Birchall Solid
Ellis Very good player on the improve
JUST MHO

Prior to 2008, i would have said Davis, but Osborne stepped up to another level, and Davis would not be able to match him in any area (que useless stats by collingwood supporters)

Davis is a great player, dont get me wrong, but at the beggining of 2008, he was only just edging Osborne, despite the fact Osborne was not in our best 22. OSborne applied himself (on his last chance) and now is a better player. If davis tried that little harder (everyone must admit, at times he can seem a little lazy) he would be hands down better

As for Osborne not winning hawthorn games, did everyone miss The Qualifying FInal? when the dogs had haulted our momentum, Osborne kicked 4 Goals in a row, and from their the hawks ran away with it.

 What does this mean??

But seriously Davis by an absolute mile. This poll is laughable.

It means that Osborne can play a number of positions and do them well.

Davis is a forward and a forward only. Can pinch hit for no more than 2 or 3 mins in the middle and thats it.

Davis will go missing in a game a lot more than what Osborne will.

Your right, this poll is laughable, Osborne is a far better player than Davis.

Ossie is stronger, a better leap and more consistent. Davis is more agile and a tad more freaky - although Osborne did some freaky things this year. And he can kick a goal from a mile out.

I'm obviously going to say Osborne because I see him more but I still believe Davis to be too hot and cold, even though Pies fans are saying that he is more consistent.

Neon Leon by a mile. Osborne is a good player but Davis has that ability to lift his team when he is playing well. Just an extremely exciting player that showed signs of reaching his potential late last season. Whilst you could say Osborne is a more consistent player, Leon's best is considerably better.

Hmmm.

Sewell, Bateman, Roughead & Williams only get 'good player' rankings; while Brown and Ellis get 'very good' ratings.

What rating would Davis get one wonders.

If you rate those four players as only 'good' and, as I suspect, Davis as 'very good', then your credibility is about to take a major hit.

I feel sorry for you :o

The results so far are pretty laughable. Davis stepped his game up massively in '08 - at stages it was fair to say he had joined the competition's group of elite midfielders. It seems playing in a premiership side is automatic grounds for being overrated on here.

OK, fair call. The first four are all better players than Ellis atm. Maybe all five are between good and very good.
I believe that Leon is in that mirky category as well.
Osborne is not even close......yet.

I got sidetracked half way through my post and probably didn't give enough considered opinion to those hawks rankings.
Either way....Davis>>>>>>>>Osborne

It sounds like Leon should have been a shoe-in for the Pies B&F. Why 4th?

Watch Osborne play this year (try to not focus on Buddy) .

One of the worst polls on BF. I know you're the premiers but seriously overrating your players by this much is a bit embarrassing.

Davis by lightyears. Osburne is a little honest battler. Davis is a matchwinner at either a FP or a midfielder. Would have made AA quite easily if he wasnt injured (Ahead of Medhurst)

Can Osborne kick a goal for Anywhere inside the 50?
