9 seasons without a premiership - it's hard to justify keeping him around for a 10th season with that record I think.

But merely making the finals isn't enough to justify ongoing presence. If after a some time (and 9 years is certainly more than some) you haven't won it yet a club needs to get someone new.
without their two best players.
I think the Pies will be worse off next season, especially if Wakelin retires. They are too inexperienced to seriously challenge for a premiership. It will take 3-4 years for them to be a flag threat.
What Leigh Matthews said once you take a side to a grand final, it's hard to get back up to that. Pies made the grand final in 2002 and 2003, so I think Malhouse's time has past, he is getting older and that doesn't help at all. Buckley to take over. Time is everything in footy, better to leave a year too early, than a year too late.
Give Malthouse a break ! He got that ordinary list of players into the finals so he deserves to keep his job .and even a bonus on top .
No other coach would have much chance of getting such an ordinary bunch of players into the 8 .
Tonight showed how bad the Pies backline and midfield really is, Wakelin is finished O'brien is a battler at best Brown will possibly be a handy big man but is slow as a wet week and struggles against talls or smalls.
Their midfield is slow and pretty average .
the forward line is probably okay if Didak is kept ..and Cloke actually steps up..his kicking for goal for a key forward is woeful to say the least .
In the ruck they are lacking big time ..how Bryant gets a game amazes me, Josh Fraser is not much chop...where's Wood ???
Some big holes to be filled before Collingwood are any sort of contender.
Surely no team would get rid of an experienced, premiership winning coach
Daniher may not have had as many youngsters as Collingwood over the years but I think he still was ok at developing them. The problem ND faced was the pressure for the team to continually perform (to keep the club going) without building from the ground up.Neale wasn't so good at developing youngsters btw.
I think we are OK for another couple of years - our recruiting staff has proved that we can find some decent players, just see Clarke, Dawes, McCarthy, Goldsack, Cox, etc. Would like to think MM will be around for another 2/3 years, though who knows. Is he the man to take us to the flag? Probably not, but who knows. Not sure what the immediate future holds.
