Roast Mid season draft compensation

I’m a mad Bullants fan. Our Full Forward, sticks Ryan just got drafted by the Hawks. I’m rapt for him. But he was so far off the radar he had to specially apply to nominate, because he didn’t nominate for the last national draft.

We get a measly 10k in compo for losing our best player. Who we would’ve had no inkling of getting drafted. Yes, each player you get drafted from your second tier club is a great advertisement for why you should come play for our club.

But our clubs run on shoestring budgets. The AFL is loaded. How hard is it for them to sling us 100k transfer fee? Pocket change for them, massive for us.

And this is why I hate the midseason draft. The VFL is highly compromised anyway, but other leagues still have some semblance of being actual competitions and can get completely derailed mid-year.

One of the only reasons kids go to state league clubs is to be drafted and play afl. Just be happy for them

VFL priority is not about teams winning, it's about showcasing players who want to be at the highest level, then it's about winning. I'm surprised AFL pays any compensation at all
