In short, anyone who is injured for over 8 weeks can be placed on the long term injury list. While they are on the injury list they can not play football at any level.

They can how ever be replaced, so if Young is available in round 18 or 19, then we could move any other player to the long term injury list as long as he is injured for 5 weeks. (remaining of the season).

We have Walker and Young not available for 9 plus weeks, so they both could be moved to LTI list pretty easily.

I personally would place them both on the LTI list, and look for 2 replacements. I think we have 7+ plus changes at the end of the year, and not enough draft picks so if one of these 2 players work out it would help a lot.

There are lots of players potentially available, but Trey Ruscoe has been mentioned. He started the year very well. Feel free to add any additional WAFL players that are playing well.

Winder looks good again. Winder and Ruscoe would be close to pushing for selection, if they were on our list.

Sellwood from Peel is the other player we should be looking at.

Note: I expect the club is to risk adverse to make the decision to draft anyone in the MSD, but I would prefer to look at potential list improvement rather than talk more about Jackson, moving the ball slowly, or our last loss.

The rest of leading goal kickers. Kuek looks to be playing well.

Or - and hear me out on this - they stay at Souths and they win a premiership.

You gotta be joking about Trey Ruscoe go_the_dockers ?!

Isn’t he a big part of the Luke Jackson issue!

I like Selwood. Interested to see how he goes this weekend in the state game.

Honestly though we’ve had 0% success rate in MSD, we don’t currently have a pick and unlikely to take a pick.

The MSD is on 28 May and in 2 weeks; Young will be around 8weeks, Walker 7weeks and Narkle 6weeks.

We have had much better success with the SSP.

They don't need to be 8 weeks remaining injured at the time of the draft, they just need to be on the LTI list.

What have i missed here? are they having a lovers tiff? I havent been up to date on the gossip - more just that Jackson is starting to come across just like his contested marking ability - soft

I have only heard 3rd hand, but I think he implied Jackson left his dog at an house with no one looking after it when he went to Melbourne via a facebook burner account.

It's spread enough elsewhere.
Jackson has been inconsistent with his marking, he's had a couple good games this year in that area that would help if that becomes closer to the norm.

I think "inconsistent" is a bit kind. He's taken some good contested marks, but generally he's very much a 2 grabber (if we're lucky). Very much concrete hands, like Sandi used to have.

Oh since Jackson has been at Freo he hasn't been great at contested marking, but he does pull it together sometimes.
There's no guarantee he'll suddenly get there, but hopefully he keeps improving.

It would make an even bigger difference to his impact, but he's still actually doing pretty well.
A lot more potential to unlock though.

This is basically our freo mantra - we're a club full of potential and what ifs but who never actually get there.

Essentially we're a club (including supporters), stranded in a desert, chasing the mirage. We always think we're just about there and it'll be paradise, but in reality, it doesnt exist!

Because we constantly try to use it in contradiction to the purposes the MSD was created for.

It's not to pick up speculative players, it's to pick up locked and loaded state level players who should reach the next level soon or are already able to hit the ground running... but for some reason or another Freo has been insistent on handicapping itself with who they pick, and deliberately picking players who would take years to develop and then they bin them two years later anyway... gosh make it make sense :(

I think the feeling is that there’s only ever 2 or 3 of those locked and loaded state level players available in any given MSD, and they’re gone by the time Freo get to pick. Plus if those locked and loaded players don’t fit your immediate needs, it’s no different from taking a speculative pick.

Someone else can do the historical analysis showing how few MSD picks ever get to play more than a couple of games. And then someone else can trot out the “you miss every shot you don’t take line”.

100%.

Not sure why teams go for a speculative picks who has 10% chance of making 50 games.

Better to go with a high performing mature age state team who has a chance to play games this year. Who cares if he is 34 but fills a role straight away.

Mid Season is for short term and national draft long term.

Team selection pressure assist club culture long term.

Or we sink time into Neil Erasmus and Oscar McDonald.

I don’t see the need for MSD this year.
