Most annoying errors of grammar and/or spelling....

There have been several comments (with regards to messages posted on this board) about the obviously low standard of education that many of our younger footy fans seem to have had to endure.

For the sake of their continuing education...

What spelling or grammatical error annoys the pants off you?

In my own particular case... I hate it when people spell the word "definite" incorrectly.

Just because we are footy fans, doesn't mean we have to be ignorant ones.

Let's teach our younger footy friends good English.

(*sigh*--when you see topics like this, you know that the off-season is well and truly in full swing)

Should it be:

"Shoot AT goals"

or

"Shoot ON goals"

I say shoot ON goals--that is, unless one deliberately wants to hit one of the goal posts--then you would have a shot AT them

this board demonstrates to me my increasing reliance (or is that relience...nah...) on spellcheckers.

Doesn't really apply to this board, but the single one thing that bothers me the most is people who spell "lose" with two "O's".

"You're such a LOOSER!"

I can't believe how many people do this; it's mind boggling.

Shoot ON goals is a spoken thing more that a spelling thing. I believe this is a Western Australianism bought in by Dennis Commetti (sp?) LOL and as such isn't relevant to this discussion, similar to checkside bought in by Sandy Roberts.

Worse than bad spelling is the nonesesical addition of the word 'but' to end a sentence.

As in " I'm off to the footy but"

Its neither a bother or a problem. Besides, who said Sam Johnson was right anyway? Phonetics should be the way to go.

Though phonetics sounds like it should be spelt differently too! Add in typos and theres your typical internet user.

All the commentators do it. They say something like "when you come up against the archers and the careys"

There may be two careys byt there is only one archer - you can't talk like that.

Or when they say "For some unknowun reason"
The best example of this was a Blighty on the night the lights went out. He said "if for some unknowun reason we can't go on with this game, the AFL will meet tomorrow to decide...." Unknown reason ? The lights had failed Malcolm. Thats definately a Known reason in my book.
