These 3 guys are the obvious 3, but it is quite hard to split after that.

Wanganeen - back to his best, playing a brand of football we as football fans haven't seen enough of in the last 10 years. You wouldn't know their best midfielder in Josh Francou has not played, thanks to the improved play of this guy. Brownlow #2? Not without a chance.

Embley - needed to perform this year to save delisting, and has done just that. The Eagles hit a form slump when Gardiner got injured, but who's to say Embley's shoulder problems at the same time didn't have as much of an impact. Has gone from a guy you didn't worry about, to someone who opposition coaches would spend quite a bit of time finding a match-up for.

Brogan - Has capably filled the breach left by Matthew Primus, who has succumbed to a career-ending rule change. One of few modern-day athletes to perform in 2 sports at the elite level, Brogan is in the top 5 performed ruckman of 2003.

James McDonald has done wonders at the Melbourne Football Club. He has been one of the Demons best and most consistent players this season.

Wasn’t rated that highly at the begging of the season, now considered to be no.36 in the league (Herald Sun 3/9/2003).

Clint Bizzell hasn’t done that badly either…;)

2003 season alone....

Rhyce Shaw...if you rated him out of 10 in 2002 you would have given him -5 he was that bad. Very very nice to see him going quite well now.

Over the years....

James Clement...is now a star.

Fraser
Tarrant - although he always had the potential, he looked disinterested last year and didn't work as hard
O'Bree
Burns - 2002 was great, 2003 is better

No Tugger??

It's a disgrace that Fevola hasn't been included in this poll. Last year he was a hack, de-list material and had no leadership. Now he's in the top dozen forwards in the league, in the top five for goalkicking (with 63), 2nd most scoring shots in the league - all this in the worst team in the league, with the worst midfield and with the worst delievery into the forward 50.

Wanganeen was already a good player before this year... but to go from hack to top 10 forward takes the award for the most improved player. So you could conclude that:

-------------------------------------------W(2002)------>W(2003)
F(2002)---------------------->F(2003)

De-list material begins from the start. Last year, Wanganeen was playing well (slightly better than Fev this year)... and reached a greater level in 2003, but the improvement wasn't as big as Fevola's. In terms of improvement from last year's form for the two players, Fevola easily!

Jude Bolton and Brett Kirk have been equally most improved players this year for the swans

for other clubs

Carlton-Fevola
Lions- Ash McGrath
Catters- Ablett

I knew I forgot someone! Dutchy has been great.
Also Clement along the years has gone from average to a star.
I think Lonie has improved, he has become accountable, but a bit too accountable for my liking. I'd like to see him up the ground in the midfield/wing or in the forward line more.
And BJ as well.

I really think that the only thing Wanganeen improved this year was his resistance to injury.

For genuine improvement, yeah, Brogan for sure.

Fevola is definitely unlucky to miss, he must love Pagan.

Matty Scarlett took another leap as well.

Although he was still a sensational backmen last year, he's turned into the best in the competition this season, IMO.

embley and fevola have been outstanding for there respective clubs.

Andrew Embley, Chad Fletcher, Dean Brogan, Jude Bolton , Brett Kirk, Dion Woods, Roger Hayden, Robert Haddrill and Brendon Fevola are all player who have dramatically improved their form in season 2003.

I don't think guys like Wanganeen, Bell and Pavlich fit in this poll - For starters I think Pav has probably matched his form from last year, not really massivly bettered it. Bell and Wanga were already gun players, who have just returned to their best form - as someone said, their increases in form were not as big as the likes of Embley, Brogan and Fevola.

Has to be Embley! Has gone from potential roadkill to one of the Eagles first picked since the end of last year
