This is probably to be expected. Although I'd normally have no concerns with player retention, the writer is correct in saying that there is quite a gap between Mummy's "alleged" demands and his current value to the club:

I hope for all involved a deal can be done and the big man stays.

I'm not adverse to giving him long term commitment but I am not sure we are in a position to give him the increase salary demand especially with his injury and suspension history.

The interesting thing would be what (who) would we want in terms of return trade from GWS?

Hmm. Can't blame Mumford for at least initially asking for an inflated contract but you also can blame Sydney for not wanting to give it to him considering how injury prone he has been.

This could be a really tough one. I don't want to lose him but it his management seems pretty happy to give the impression he is happy to walk if he doesn't get the deal he wants.

I can't think of who we would want for GWS - it would have to be a young ruckman or KPP, but with Patton and Cameron off the table - who else do they have?

GWS will have the upper hand as we did with Adelaide for Tippett (minus the dodgy under the table deal - hopefully).

They will be able to grab him in the PSD if we can't get a trade but then on the other hand if Mumford wants to leave I trust Sydney to do a deal and get some thing. I'd expect them to only give us a pick or picks. I doubt they wil want to lose many of their already drafted players. They can afford to get rid of those picks now

If he does leave and that's a big if, and I expect us to do a deal, I think GWS's 2nd round pick which would be the first in the 2nd round (about pick 20-24 depending on FA compensation, a possible priority pick for Melbourne and previous years' GWS/GC FA signing compo picks) would be the most likely deal.

If we could somehow use that pick to get Bellchambers as his replacement I would be reasonable satisfied with that outcome.

As I posted in another forum, I thibk we should try to get Bellchambers from Essendon as part of the deal, the same way we replaced Jolly with Mummy. Bellchambers is still young, has shown a lot but seems to be out of favour.

Highly doubt they would trade Dom Tyson though.

The Oz article says Tippo's contract is backended? I was under the impression we front loaded the shit out if it, and Tippos earning about 80 grand per game this year?

I was under that impression, too. I think that article is wrong.

Can we request an increase to the CoLA for Mummy, surely the big fella's appetite costs more to satisfy than the 9.8% offered to the rest of the team.

In all serious though if money is what is driving him them it is what it is and if we cant match GWS and he takes the money then I trust our recruiting and list management team to get the best result for us.

Also maybe this is the saving grace for Jesse to be resigned and satisfy all those who have been giving him new found love as a result of his recent form.

As much as Melbourne are a pathetic, embarrassing failure, GWS will still have pick 1 in the PSD. What incentive do they have to offer anything in trade?

But we can afford to pay everyone overs? Help AFL!

Activate COLA power

we typed COLA into the game But GWS have activated their COLA counter by typing their special code COLA+.

In all seriousness an A grade ruck and a barging inside midfielder should be much more of a priority than a full forward at the giants. Cameron's in the Coleman race from limited score opportunity's he's going to be a superstar + Patton if they get him right. Their forward line is fine. It's other areas of the ground they have to work on.

If Tom Hickey was worth a pick in the low teens surely Mummy is worth the compensation pick GWS have, pick 10 I think?

With this news I doubt they have (or ever had) Buddy lined up (their other target Leuenberger is gone as well).
