As me and my family are on the waiting list for the MCC, yesterday I took the opportunity to purchase the guest passes which are offered to waiting list and took several mates with me. I wasn't sure what to expect exactly, but I was hoping to see less Richmond ferals around the kids, and thought the bars and food would probably be better. The collar dress code was also an interesting feature, which one of my Richmond mates didn't take seriously, and ended up having to buy a Richmond polo at the ground to be allowed in.

The seats were great, right on the wing, and it was a kid friendly area, so the ferals prediction proved to be correct. But the biggest shock for me as a newby, by a long way, was the law that drinks had to be consumed at the bar and couldn't be taken to the stands! This was an absolute killer rule. Whoever came up with it, has to be taking the piss. I haven't watched so much of the game on TV while being at the ground in my life, and I haven't skulled so many beers either...

How in the **** would you watch the Boxing Day Test then?

I probably wouldn't go there against Melbourne, but it was perfectly fine against Richmond. How the hell do you get to level 2? We were told it was only for some special dining room passes or something.

Full members and restricted members can just walk in. You need a balcony pass which full/restricted members can apply for in advance or (if low crowd) can obtain on the day.

Thanks - I wasn't sure how to get that balcony pass.
By the way, given you're a member, perhaps you can help me out. Two of my kids, wife and myself have been on the waiting list for 7 years, but my youngest child was born last year and I don't know anyone who can propose him to join the waiting list as well. The people I worked with previously who proposed the rest of us, i've lost contact with, and as you know, I need two full members to be able to do this. If you're able to help, please PM me.

The level 2 balcony in the MCC is the best place to watch football in the country.

How much is annual membership on the wait list?
To get onto the waiting list, 7 years ago I've paid $55 (inc GST) for each family member. It's a one off fee, and you don't pay anything else until your turn comes up, which takes at least around 15 years. But while you're on the waiting list, you can still purchase guest passes to selected games. These passes cost $30 for adults and $5 for kids.

Yep, almost as good as the old balcony. The new Bullring's not a patch on the old one though.

FWIW, I don't mind the drinking only in bars. Been a full member since the late '80s and I'm used to it. Not a big drinker at the footy these days now that I usually take the kids. Anyway, if you're that keen there are bars with a view of the ground.
