How was his second quarter guys?

Sensational.

Back to hating though.

I seriously cant work out if you're serious or not sometimes.

You do realize what a raging hypocrite you come across as when you take the 'you guys just hate on players' approach dont you?

Like I said in the game thread... raw potential... one of my favourites I've seen for that at e least. He goes missing, he does some clangers, but he does some things that totally change the momentum of the game. Seriously, you're a fool if you give up on him. Give him a couple of years with experience and he could be very, VERY damaging.

I didn't mind Cook's game tonight, despite a couple of awful errors. I love his work rate, worked hard to get into position to receive the ball on many occasions and was willing to put us forward by foot when possible.

It's a pity his kicking is still quite poor because it's all that's preventing him from being a very good player at this stage.

You worried me for a second there, I went back and checked my post :o

The difference of course is that Perrie was a forward - he lived and died by how his kicks went. A midfielder can get away with being a poor kick if he's good enough in other areas. Exhibit A, Daniel Cross.

not in this day and age. Daniel Cross is an extractor, thats where he started, he also has great handball skills. Cook doesn't, Cook gets replaced by Sloane anyway. Cook does't have the skills to be on the outside. Cook doesn't have one weapon.

You’re an idiot if you believe that.

I think that is also something that gets dismissed (in response to aneale) we seem to be copping injuries not only to starting 22 players but their replacements as well

absolutely, Cook is the bloke replacing a bloke at one point.

If Knights, VB, Vince, McKay, Porps, Symes, Sloane, Martin, Thommo, Douglas, Reilly, Otten, Macca, Edwards, Dogga, Petrenko, Stiffy and Goody are all fit and in form, i don't see where Cook fits in. Some will retire, some aren't better than him but there are plenty who are and always will be. He's depth at best.

what running and turning inside a tackler? yeah that won't get worked out. He doesn't have brilliant hands, he can barely kick, he;s not some contested ball freak and he had one decent, not great qtr. He's marginally better than David Gallagher. Who was quite similar.

Cook doesn't have one weapon.

This is not only untrue, it's blatantly untrue. Cook has several weapons that were on display this very evening. He used his pace to get away from players, he ran to space to receive the ball several times, he won the ball despite being outnumbers several times, and he often gained a large amount of meterage with his possessions.

In fact, with Cook the issues is that his only real detriment is a one big, not that he has no weapons.

its hardly blistering pace, you can't put him in the Danger, Jetta mode. No pace out at Geelong. The rest describes Ben Rutten as well. Running to space to receive the ball are you kidding me? U9's know to do that. Please don't tell me something you get taught as a mini leaguer is now something to hang your hat on as a weapon.

Nothing jumps out like it did with MacKay, Vince, Danger or Knights, there was more excitement about how Brodie Martin started his career.

Yes, you're taught to do that at U9 level. The fact remains that he is doing it better than most people in our side that is playing at the highest level. You're taught to kick at U9 level too, some players do it better than others.

His pace is as good as anyone in our side, and he regularly uses it. I'm not even sure how to respond to your claim that there is no pace at Geelong.

Ben Rutten is a former AA defender who has been far from our worse player this year. Not sure what point you're trying to make there.

Hardly fair mentioning four of our most promising youngsters and then adding on the best Crows debut we've seen since Johncock as comparison. Cook is unlikely to become elite, whereas all four of Mackay, Danger, Vince and Knights could be. What Cook is likely to become is a fine AFL player, and at the moment it seems to me that you are missing the forest for the trees if you can't see his obvious weapons.

Cook will spend a lot of time as a crumbing forward over the course of his career, that's my tip. Wing and on-ball time will come into it, but they will want to bring the overhead marking and knack of making something a bit weird happen into calculations.

actually his positioning defensively at the stoppages is very good, looks instinctive. and his contested possessions and clearances are very good.

plus he knows how to find space.
