Why would you have to think it means a setback?

Correct, there hasn't been a setback. The club rates Freezer highly so a few grand on a trip overseas to see whether the absolute experts in their field have any ideas that can keep Nathan on the park is an easy decision to make.
The club still thinks it's on the right track with him, and believes he has a huge role to play with us as we push up the ladder.
He's a good kid who's had a shocking run, and we desperately need him running through our midfield next season.

Sensible. Even if next year is a write off in the seniors too if we can get him right he's still just a kid.

We haven't marked him down as a bust then? That's the impression Brian's posts about him have given, though you can never be sure which opinions are his own and which are reflective of the club.

Why would we write him off already? He's a super talented kid who's contracted for another two years.
If he gets healthy we've got an important member of our midfield, if it doesn't then what have we really lost...? A second round pick and some spare cash.
I keep saying it but to compete with GWS in two years time we needed to take some calculated gambles. I'm still very hopeful Freezer can get back to full fitness and confidence in his body, and I'm willing to give him most of next season to make significant inroads before I start to question his future in the game.

We have no choice.
Contracted for another two years.
But we still should back him in

Yes, a second round pick, which was too high a price in the first place for a kid with such a chronic injury history. Nothing we've seen so far has changed that conclusion.

In my opinion yes.

Saw him maybe 4 times last year and he was going half paced.

Had had months off and now has to go to Germany because he cant get out of half pace.
Would love the kid to come good but sounds like it is just not responding.

Club wll spin it, but they wouldnt do a radical move like this unless serious concerns abound.

Smoke and fire

Those efficient German bastards will have him good to go for the start of the season.
Hopefully it's not these German bastards doing the work

It is hard to imagine him being able to return and still have the blistering pace that made him so effective. If he makes a comeback it may well be as more of a vanilla accumulator than a high-impact, explosive runner.

Its not hard for me to imagine.

Yep.

Trip is part of Nath's program, nothing to be scared about.

You should edit that post to read "Trip has been ADDED to Nath's program...."

The trip has been discussed a few times but always been seen as not necessary. This is big change in approach

Imagine he gets it right and comes and burns it against the pies out the guts
I will laugh myself silly

What does that mean?

FWIW i hope freezer plays seniors this season, just not against us

Not really. To get a second opinion/other ideas can't be a bad thing. This isn't a setback. You don't gain anything from not doing it, so why not give it a go. Remember he did play a lot of the back end of this year.

You could probably read a bit more into this if he was going to Germany during the season. Or on the eve of the season.

But if we/he want to give everything a go in the hope of the best possible outcome, well you couldn't pick a better time than now.

But in any event, why should we be suspicious about it? Surely nothing's happened since he stopped playing to indicate a setback? From what I've read he was hitting the gym and then holidaying overseas like all his team mates. According to Instagram, a week ago he was going to NFL games and visiting fast food joints in the US. Surely he didn't re-damage his string munchin' on a cheeseburger?

The VW guy's will sort him out.
He'll get fitted with a GPS device that will indicate 50% overspeed and 100% overtravel.... Sorted!

Really guy's. The kid is being sent to Germany to consult with experts.
Worth spending $10k on trying to get him right?

Over-reacting much. Moving right along...........

I'm kind of amazed that people seem to think that trading this year's second rounder ( which we now have two of ) on Freeman is the biggest disaster ever.

Like we never drafted Lynch, traded for Lovett, or drafted Cripps.

Interestingly our pick traveled around a bit. It helped James Aish realize his ambition to spud it up at Collingwood. ( while he wasn't helping his girlfriend train for wet T-shirt contests ).
Was then traded to GWS when they upgraded their 3 to 2. ( 31 to 16).
Traded to Sydney for the points from two later picks.
Then traded to Port to upgrade Sydney's 14 to 9.
Interestingly Port must value the difference between 31 and 49 as almost equal to the difference between 9 and 14.

Will be ironic if pick 31 turns out to be a gun, given how many clubs offloaded it.
But i'd rather Freeman turns out to be a gun and 31 turns out to be a spud.
