Universal Love Nathan Fyfe

He seems to have an aura around him at the moment. You can see the opposition players reaction when he gets the ball - they all try to shut him down but at this point in his career he is almost unstoppable. I feel lucky to watch this part of the clubs history unfold before my eyes.

He also seems to lift the other players - look at Clancee's kicking last night - it was like classic Hawthorn style pinpoint accuracy. When would you ever thought ol' Clancee would be cutting up the opposition with his kicking and off the ball work??

The universe rewards effort - the whole team has bought into it at the moment. It's giving us the edge...

Clancee was playing this well a couple of years ago but yes, Fyfe is the talisman for the club at the moment.

Love the nonchalant tracking down of the ball near the boundary line with an Essendon player closing in. Picked up the ball so casually, looked at the Essendon player, seemed unimpressed and just went through him. Does these sorts of things 5 or 6 times per game now. Not only is he the best one-on-one player in the league, he knows that he is the best one-on-one player in the league.

I actually laughed at that when it happened. I'm not sure if he meant to come across as arrogant but it seemed he just pushed him away using jedi mind power - it made the essendon payer look insignificant.

It's quite amazing how he can do that to players at the moment. Confidence is a strong tonic.

But it's more than that. It's not just his confidence, it's the opposition player's mindf**k when he thinks, "oh shit it's Fyfe" and probably feels half-beaten already.

I'd say there is a fair bit of "oh, shit!" from the opposition players.

Last night, i think it was the last quarter, Fyfe went for a mark against two Essendon players in the square. he got hands to it, but didn't take it. Fyfe was punching the ground afterwards - the guy just expects to take those kind of marks which most players wouldn't even get hands to.

That move was amazing. It's great that he has confidence in himself that he can do things like that and somehow still thinks he needs to improve on the odd occasion he gets it wrong.
He makes it all look so easy too, like it's a normal part of anyone's footy game.

I think it's a pretty common reaction to watching him play, lots of laughing in disbelief and wonderstruck head shakes.

As touched on in the posts above, given his relentless desire for continual self-improvement it's actually a bit scary to think how much better he can get still.

Those of you of a mature vintage would recall over the years the crowd calling in unison when certain players had a possession eg Roos, Christou, Yze.
With Fyfe now dominating the comp it'd be great if Freo fans could adopt a call whenever Fyfey has one of his numerous touches, thinking maybe Kniiiiiife or Fyyyyyyyyyfe or seeing as he is involved in the wool promotion, maybe Wooooollll (maybe not!). Anyone got any suggestions, would be a great way to further draw the attention of the men in white to his deeds.

I don't think any of those players regularly got as many possessions as Nathan Fyfe is getting now.

We're all lucky to be witnessing the handover from Pav to Fyfe. Never thought Pav would get the chance to play in the same team as Freo's next legend but its happening. The good news is that legend No. 2 looks like he will become better than Pav. Personally I think we should hang on to Pav as long as we can, in any role possible. Pav has been a wonderful leader and its no coincidence our team has the same principles as the great man. He looks to have done a good job with Tabs as well.

Has engaged the Wand of Evasion into supreme mode at the minute, has the great man.

I hope he never chops his hair either! He looks so glorious.

Don't be too proud of this pharmacological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a competition is insignificant next to the power of the Fyfe.

I really don't want to be a spoiler and pour cold water over this discussion, BUT
It was a bit before my time and passed on to me from a senior, but legend has it that there was once a player by the name of John Todd who was tearing the then VFL competition a new one - nobody could touch him and his drop kicks were about the most powerful anybody had seen. The legend goes that with nobody able to lay a glove on Toddy, the solution was arrived at to take out his knee. In those days knee reconstructions were not around. So Toddy had his knee wrecked and never played again (but did go on to coach).

In his own words: "Knee problems shattered my world. In my second season, not long after my 18th birthday, a pack of players collapsed on my left leg and tore my anterior cruciate ligament. People said that if I’d been more street-smart, it wouldn’t have happened. But
I always thought: ‘Why pass up an opportunity to get the ball?’ It was just an accident." http://australianfootball.com/artic...+Australian+champion/135#sthash.DxtLFmfW.dpuf

Let's just pray the world has moved on from this mindset.
Never knew that South Freo was part of the VFL! In any account, winning a Sandover at 17 during that era would have been quite a feat. Pity his body didn't hold up.
