I have seen so mny mock drafts and have looked quite closely. I mysef am aquainted with a Sydney Swans scout over here in Perth. He has been around for a while and knows a fair bit of inside news.

1 - Jack Watts (Melb) - Self explanatory really, Melbourne need a forward, and here he is

2 - Nicholas Naitanui (WCE) - This is the difference here to most, I have heard the Eagles are craving Nat, doesn't suprise me with his game for Swan Districts on the weekend. He is more so a long term option to Daniel Rich, but seeing the development of some of the kids at West Coast I don't mind an neither will the Eagles. A 195cm odd kid who can run faster than most midfielders and can jump over players heads is quite dreamy.

3 - Daniel Rich (Fre) - I don't see Fremantle passing up a quality mid such as Rich. Especially when they know their midfield is becoming slightly faster and more effective than past Freo midfields. With the loss of Peter Bell and Josh Carr they may need another midfielder anyway.

4 - Tyone Vickery (Port) - After much delegation, it has been decided Port need a ruck not a mid, vickery is the next best after Nat, so he goes here.

5 - Michael Hurley (Ess) - Quite simply, Mal Michael retired, Fletcher is old and slowing, Essendon need another key defender. Hurley fits the mould perfectly

6 - Hamish Hartlett (Car) - It's a case of the best mid available for Carlton. This will make their midfield look REALLY scary

7 - Jack Ziebell (Bri) - Similar to Carlton, the best mid available. Brisbane should see it amazing Ziebell will last to their pick.

8 - Shaun Mckernan (Rich) - Correct me if I am wrong this kid can play ruck/forward?? The best available. Be careful WB, they may look at Cordy here my heart says.

9 - Stephen Hill (Syd) - Sydney are dead keen on this kid, I think pace off the half-back/wing is a good starter for them in this draft, Kennelly keeps popping his shoulders out and who knows how Malceski will hold up...

10 - Nick Heyne (STK) - Heyne is dangerous, something that the St Kilda midfield don't really have a lot of at the moment.

11 - Nick Suban (Ade) - I think Adelaide will take Suban, especially if Johncock is traded

12 - Steele Sidebottom (Col) - Oozes class, will complement the midfield well, especially as Collingwood are a good long kicking team, Sidebottom has the skills

13 - Mitch Robinson (NM) - The Kangaroos may need a new midfielder, as Adam Simpson is ageing and to get a decent midfielder will strengthen the team

14 - Ayce Cordy (WB) - Father/Son, will not let a good young ruck go

15 - Clancee Pearce (Haw) - Gives good drive off the half-back, and quite hard at it, which is much like Hawthorn

16 - Tom Swift (Gee) - I feel seeing as Geelong have such a good midfield at this point in time, they will pick Swift, who will possibly be an option longer term? If it pays off, the Geelong midfield may remain a force

17 - Sam Blease (Mel) - Need a quality midifelder after taking Watts at pick 1, I would be happy if I were Melbourne

18 - Chris Yarran (WCE) - Natural crumbers are a must at West Coast, Yarran is this and will not be passed up by West Coast at this pick

These picks are purely speculative and I am certain it won't turn out like this. But I had a go. Any comments??

EDIT: Vickery to Port
Hartlett to Carlton
Ziebell to Brisbane
Mckernan to Richmond
Johnston to North Melbourne

Hill is quite high. I'd probably swap him with yarren and if this did happen Geelong would take Hill before Swift.

Also I personally am a Rich man so I'd rather him at 2 than Naita. (That could come back to haunt me in a couple of years).

As I said, it was just what I thought would fit the teams as of todays lists
It took me a good hour to think through and have included a couple of bolters...
I think Johnston and Trengrove were not included in here purely because I couldn't
find a team with a weakness in their position that no other better player could possibly fill

4 - Hamish Hartlett (Port) - Similar to M2M's mock, I have put Hartlett in number 4 purely because he is a local boy and probably the next best after Rich in terms of midfield quality

Tyrone Vickery.

Why do people keep assuming Port will take an SA boy?

and our team is loaded with skinny and stick skilled midfielders who get tackled easily, or cannot lie a tackle.

Actually thinking about it, the ruck stocks of Port are diminishing.
Maybe another try...

1 - Jack Watts
2 - Nick Nat
3 - Daniel Rich
4 - Tyrone Vickery
5 - Michael Hurley
6 - Hamish Hartlett
7 - Jack Ziebell??

Something like this?

I rekon Port will go Hurley... if not they will go Vic so this sounds about right.

Most teams go best available in the first round so someone will bid for him, he is top 16 material even with his shoulder injury.

I wonder if the Dogs had anything to do with Cordy's injury? :p;)

But you have to bid before trading starts, let alone the start of the draft.

Do you have us picking Hurley because you think he's better than the couple of mids behind him or because he's a key defender?

Just interested caus I never really like drafting for needs and in any case we need top quality mids as much as we need key defenders.

I know where you are coming from. But seriously, what would happen if Fletcher just pulled the pin all of a sudden. Ryder from memory would be your only proven key defender and you would have to move someone unknown to the position there or a young kind that I haven't seen as of yet. Hurley is a gun though don't doubt that.
However I don't see the Bombers midfield to be very bad at all, they are quick and thats what counts these days... they will learn precision in time

If Fletcher pulled the pin we would be screwed. We did pick up a few possible key defenders in last years draft(Pears, Daniher, Williams, Hooker), obviously none are rated as highly as Hurley, but they're still there.

I was just seeking an opinion on who you thought was the better player out of Hurley and our other options.

anyone have a player profile on suban? i have no idea who he is really, and was just wondering.. doubt johncock would be traded anyways.. wouldn't mind sidebottom

Yep Vickery to Port makes sense. I think Carlton may take a punt on McKernan if Hurley is not available. They need another goal kicking option. If they don't get Hurley (which will allow Waite to play CHF) they may look for a goal kicker. Fev cannot win a premiership on his own.

This would mean that Hartlett or Ziebell could slide to Richmond.

yep i can hope.
