I love these threads. Where BigFooty Big Statements have even less relevance.None of us have the slightest clue about what a senior coach job really entails. None of us know what sort of presentation these guys put up. No one knows what the criteria each club demanded from it's prospective coaches.

In 2005, Richmond got Wallace and the Hawks got Clarkson. The general consensus on here was Richmond had scooped the pool, and Hawthorn had installed a gnome they found in the back garden. Please dont remind a Tiger supporter how that turned out.

When Carlton got Pagan he was cited as the Best Current Coach (trademarked). He took Carlton to its first ever wooden spoons.

Bomber Thompson was roundly derided for years. Now he is a respected eminence grise.

Wait and see.

It's so easy for people on BF to just come out and make ridiculous assumptions and judgements based on a very limited exterior position. Unless anyone here knows these people personally, was sitting in on the interviews or understands what they have done in the past from an internal point of view, i suggest the opinions stop and some horses that are high are jumped off.

As this poster said; Clarkson, no idea who he was before he was signed, now one of the most sought after people in the game. Wallace, turned out to be a disaster at Richmond after huge wraps. People just don't know how things will eventuate, so stop talking bullshit. Oh wait, this is BF........

I think its fantastic .NEW BLOOD. NEW IDEAS NEW WAY TO APPROACH THE GAME AND HOW TO HANDLE PLAYERS.

But the Rodney Eades of this world are still needed , and should go to StKilda

I don't know about anyone else, but I seriously do not know what a senior coach does exclusively by himself beyond front the end-of-game press conference.

I don't even know what a senior coach does or how much of it he does.

Having said that, I was surprised Melbourne went with untried again. For all we know it could be Dean Bailey mk II

Pagan had nothing to play with, his list was fourth rate.

Yep, and he was putting together the list Carlton has today while trying to dodge the stabs in the back coming from the establishment.

From the media grabs I've heard from each of them Neeld has impressed me the most.

Not that media performance means jack when you get down to it, as long as they appear good enough communicators to get their message across to the players.

Dogs senior mgmt screwed up in the first place by not offering Eade another contract - classic case of non footy dept people massively overrating their players. Dogs have nowhere near the top-end talent that Pies, Cats, Hawks, Saints have but Rocket still got the Dogs deep into September 3 years in a row.

What can be said with BM's appointment is that the coaching selection process was thorough, which is all I can ask for as a supporter

Neeld seems impressive, but then again, Dean Bailey came in with the exact same straight-talking attitude when he came on board did he not?

Good luck to all of the guys - here's hoping they all improve and still finish below us next year :)

No he didn't. Bailey used the word competitive about 30 times.

There's been a stark difference between what Neeld has said and Bailey. Listen to the Neeld interview on ABC.

Yeah, most Melbourne fans (myself included) thought Neeld was the bee's knees with his mean cliches at the beginning. It's cringe-worthy looking back at the excitement, knowing what we know now.
