YES.

I agree with the sentiment that some of the worst people in here are registered posters.

However, there are too many incidents right now of people posing as other people, and that should be outlawed.

Furthermore, such posts like the holocaust photo only seem to come from unregistered people.

I enjoy humorous unregistered posts from time to time but I don't have a problem giving that up if it means that this place is cleaner.

yes, and I'll vote where I'm supposed to. While I'm relatively new here these board used to big a good way of keeping informed about interesting football discussions. Lately it has been increasingly hard to sort through the crap. Now those with more experience here say it won't make any difference. I say do something, because I see bigfooty being a joke if it continues. Just my opinion and no corespondence will be entered into etc etc.

There are plenty of crap registered users and a few excellent unregistered users...registering isn't going to change anything.

If you take a look at Danny Chook's thread on "More Strife For the Kangaroos", you'll find some people posting under the names Tim Webster and Bill Woods, both unregistered, both doing it in a humourous way. Would they have done it if they had to go and register? Just reading that and getting a laugh convinced me that things should be kept as they are.

(and yes, I did vote on the front page)

Yeah, what Shinners said.

where's wally?

Where as unregistered are pretty much able to do as they please.

It's not true that registering users allows moderators more control over the boards. We have some very high traffic on the North boards, and we get quite a few visits from people who are not particularly fond of our club. There have only been two occasions where I've felt the need to delete posts, one time I had the support of the North regulars, and the other time was at the request of the victim of the post. However, both these posts were posted by "registered" names who have since disappeared....no real difference to having an "unregistered" poster doing the same thing.

But besides these two clear cut examples, who am I to draw the line? There have been a few posts that I have found offensive while other's haven't. And there have been some which I've thought are okay while others haven't. Either way, the only choice you have as a user of the boards is to either respond or ignore. If you respond, you are showing that you want to keep the argument/discussion going (and you should expect a further response from other's). If you ignore, and everyone else ignores it, then the thread will die.

It may not stop the crap being posted but as I said before it gives Bluey the opportunity to ban continuous crap posters(eg G4E). If they come back as someone else and start posting, crap, Ban them as weel but if they come back as someone else and don't post crap then that is fine. Either way it does give more control over the boards.

I voted on the front page, but wanted to post here anyway, just to have my say.

I think it should become a 'registered users' site, just so Bluey can have at least a bit more control, coz things have just been REALLY messed up round here lately. It may or may not stop the crap, but I do think it will help somewhat.

I used your name as an example because yours was the last post and I wanted the comparison to be easy, I wasn't deliberately picking on you. I'll delete that post now and won't use the name again.

I needed to use a demo because people seem to believe that registering will somehow protect the board from abuse. It doesn't. In fact, unless the email addresses are checked by using them to send out the password, it won't even slow the abuse down.

Moderation will help keep the board clean and tidy and ignoring the idiots will discourage them. There is nothing they like better than a reaction, any reaction.

I think making registration compulsary, wouldn't stop the abuse, but certainly may water it down a bit.

Those who are dead set out there just to cause trouble won't be detered - but those that post an insult of something offensive impulsivly would not be able to do that any longer.

There is even the possibility that the 'serial' pests may be watered down......some of them would tire eventually of having to go out and get another email address and re-register just to have their say, after they have been banned each time.

So it won't stop the abuse, but may tone it down a bit.

No CJH, it wasn't me.

Whoever it was, you are forgiven. But I would like to know how you managed to steal the exact name, because I assumed that usernames could not be duplicated.

I think that kicking off the unregistered users might help the abuse situation a bit BUT I see the whole question to being similar to a justice system where the question is 'is it better that 1 innocent man is found guilty along with 100 guilty ones or is it better that they all go free'(personally I'd rather they all went free) & so out of respect to those that have chosen not to register I will vote be voting No to protect their right not to register.

PS As anyone who regularly posts abuse probably does it from the same PC even under different names so is it not possible to put a block on that particular machine from entering BF or is this a pie in the sky idea (my technical knowledge of how these things work is not great)

DIPPER says no to compulsory registratoion!
