I definitely wouldn't be surprised if the Dogs and Lions keep crossing paths in finals and build a rivalry.

As for Melbourne, that comes down to who becomes a big contender next year. Could see Essendon becoming a rival to Melbourne, they are going to improve their list, play a really strong, entertaining brand of football, they just need to get it together.

I think it could be Melb v Rich

Melb - the proof is in the pudding - they are miles better than the rest of the pack - and they have got some young players who are only going to get better - basically 80pt wins in both the GF and the PF - on that big Perth ground - same dimensions as MCG

Rich are the interesting one - standout side for 4 years - with 3 flags in the bank . They did get a horrendous injury toll this year - which killed their chances

Youd think they would bounce back - got a good draft hand . My only concern re will Rich be up challenging again - is the season just concluded - they did get decimated by injury - but it was how far they fell - like losing to the Gold Coast in Melb - they were losing to everyone

However i think if they start 2022 well - with early wins - i think they will be right up their - because their best form was better than the rest - so i reckon they will be the ones challenging the Demons

The obvious ones Port/Geel/Dogs/Lions they are all suspect - you cant rely on any of those sides in crunch games - you just cant

Probably missed the Swans in my summation - so i will go Demons v Tigers or Demons v Swans

Can see Essendon/Carlton firing up again in the next few years.

Sydney/GWS is developing into a great rivalry, and will heat up again with both clubs entering the premiership race.

Melbourne/Bulldogs - both should contend for a while and will have some decent games against each other.

Richmond and Melbourne also had a little bit of a rivalry around the early 2010s when both sides were rebuilding. The precursor if you will would be the 2009 Jordan McMahon game in which Melbourne tanked to secure a priority pick.
The issue with any genuine rivalry forming is the two lists are in clearly different phases, with Melbourne just getting started and Richmond hoping for one last crack before transitioning away from the old core. Richmond would have to emulate Geelong's ability to regenerate while staying up top, which I wouldn't be against us trying, but is exceedingly difficult to pull off.

Dees v Swans, Melbourne v Sydney, NSW v VIC. academy v draft. Priority picks v Cola. Tracking to be 1v2.

Cody Weightman vs Essendon fans.

Rampe and Essendon fans! Or Hawthorn and Essendon fans! Or Brisbane and Essendon fans! Or Essendon fans and other Essendon fans! Damn Essendon fans! They ruined Essendon!

Why does it have to be new rivalries?

Carlton and the salary cap auditors could clash when it comes time to re sign Sam Walsh

There is reportedly a “rivalry full of nastiness” developing between AFL premiers the Melbourne Demons and 2021 runners-up the Western Bulldogs, the reason for which is unbelievably petty.

I don’t think there’s too much love lost between (these) two clubs, both the administrators and players,” McClure told SEN’s Sportsday.
“This is a rivalry full of nastiness and there’s a few things that stem from it. There are senior players from both sides that don’t particularly get along.
“The fact that Melbourne sang the same Bulldogs song they sang in the rooms that leaked on social media, it got back to the Dogs and it didn’t go down too well.

We missed our chance to compete properly with Richmond between 2017-2020. Too inconsistent/immature and too many injuries, which is ironic given we had the wood on them from 2014-3QT in 2017. ANZAC Eve this season really felt like a changing of the guard though during the game. Hopefully the Tigers can surge back next year.

Can see the Dons emerging, an Essendon-Melbourne rivalry would be great for football.

One that is a few years away from bubbling up is North and Essendon. North have put together a pretty potent list, and both sides will be ready to peak together in a few years. Already plenty of history between them too.

The two biggest MCC followings. You can be sure a top 4 Essendon Vs Melbourne will see the MCC lock it’s gates. A genuine chance these two clubs could draw several 70,000+ crowds over the next 5 years. Commencing in 2023/4 when the Bombers emerge as a contender.
