I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the current kids put his hand up by the time Roo is ready to step down. Although Roo probably only has another year in him as captain (would like to see him step down before retirement to guide the new captain) so those 4 would be at the top of the list. It's quite possible that one of the older players could take it for a year or 2 then maybe someone steps up to become a 7 year captain. Maybe Gibbs? (yes, I doubt it too)
Although I would have probably voted the same even if you had put everyone up there.

THink Truck is the obvious answer, but if Roo plays as capt another two years do not be surprised if Van Berlo gets the nod.

The way you hear Craig talk about this quality young man....you sense he is held in very high regard.

Neil would never say a bad thing about the great man otherwise there will be a price to pay:D

I think Reilly by the way

with Roo potentially with us for another 3/4 years...............it's a pointless discussion with that much development to put into the members of this squad as well as draftees to come.

If Roo steps down this year, Goodwin
The end of next year, Goodwin
The year after, who could possibly guess that far ahead? Maybe the player in question doesn't even play for us atm? maybe Van Berlo, Rutten, Mattner, **** knows.

The point is that Roo is the captain, and rightly so. Just leave it alone until he doesn't want the job anymore.

I will not speculate as to who will be the next captain, but I would like to see Roo play for a couple of seasons without the captaincy. I'm pretty certain Bickley did this and I reckon it's a great way of introducing a new captain.

BTW, I strongly think that Van Berlo has the qualities to be a captain at some point. Way too soon next year and one would assume the year after but without joking around like we do with VB I think he has what it takes.

But to keep with the tradition of recycled topics I think Matthew Pavlich will be our next captain :D :thumbsu:

Yes, maybe we'll package John Meesen in a three way deal that sends him home because he is homesick.

i fail to see how johncock could be considered captain

i dont think he is a very good public speaker and i believe this ia a crucial component of any modern captain in todays game.

I know he lets his form do the talking but a players ability alone is not enough to be cosidered captain

and lets face it, his past record has shown he hasnt had the best off-field record in recent years

A "Pav coming home" comment worked into a "next captain" post....nicely worked....:thumbsu: :D

Top marks to Vic Crow and The Crows Truth for working in "Meeson to return to Victoria" and "Gibbs father/son".........:D

notice nobody attempted the deadly "full-house" post...........

yes thats right ladies and gentlemen................the incorporation of "who do you barrack for in the SANFL" with the other 4 into 1 post.......

:p

dont take it personally - maybe we should just sticky threads for the old chestnuts so we don't have to start new threads each week...:)

Just on Rutten... I haven't seen a ton of him being interviewed etc but he seems quiet on the field in comparison to say a Thompson (not just coz he plays FB either. I've seen Thompson quiet vocal up forward). I have vague recollections of truck being interviewed once after a game and he didn't seem to have much to offer as a captain.

Anyone seen more of him in a 'spokesman', 'vocal leadership' role as we all know this is key to a good captain.

I've seen Rutten marshalling the troops in the backline. He is quite vocal in the games I've seen him play.
