goes as a clearance What are you talking about? A clearance, by definition, can't be a receive. It's the first possession in a chain that clears stoppage.Out the front so a HB receive so not really a contest that’s hot.
Cheers
Seriously making a complete fool of yourself nowgoes as a clearance

might be time for a new user account Adam HYou really don't know what you're talking about. The free kick is the only part of that that can be a clearance. With the others the bloke who handballed it is attributed the clearance.goes as a clearance

He'd still have no idea, but wouldn't look as ridiculous. If only he knew how a clearance is judged
Can't wait to hear his definition of "contested ball"He'd still have no idea, but wouldn't look as ridiculous.
Very aware of what is considered a contested possession. If only you knew how a contested ball is judged.
In 2025 was Josh Daicos who filled the most similar role to that of NWM.Interested to who plays the loose ( apparently) HBF role at Collingwood.
Teams only really look to shut down players in the forward half. The majority of teams look to have a really good user playing across HB and they feed them lots of loose ball to try and generate attack from the back half.Seems odd a player who kicks the ball better than most like NWM would be loose all game.

Won't bother with hard balls, as NWM has never avg more than 1 per game for a season.
In 2025, the Skunk Membrey avg more hard ball gets than NWM.

Plenty thought it would have been Houston, as he did it for Port in 2024, but never really found his groove at the Pies.
Josh was the 500m+ per game player, who had our most rebound 50s and like NWM barely won any contested ball.

Brisbane - Zorko and Coleman
Adel - Laird
Pies - Daicos
GWS - Whitfield and Aish
Hawks - Amon and Sicily
Freo - J.Clark
Dogs - B.Dale
Geel - Stewart and Humphries
Port used Rozee and Farrell
Syd - Blakey
The Saints use NWM and Sinclair in this role.
NWM is great at it, but it is laughable that you are so critical of Nic Daicos (stuck in 2022 version) where he played the loose HBF role but are now lauding NWM.

Relative to Daicos? And you think no work gets put into these blokes.![]()
It's more the result of where St. Kilda have been the last couple of years. They're not a threat to the better teams, so those better teams simply choose to back in THEIR system, and it will generally get the result they are after.Seems odd a player who kicks the ball better than most like NWM would be loose all gagame.
Not hard. But wrong. A clearance is the first possession in a chain that clears stoppage. Stop digging deeper. If a bloke in a centre context wins it then handballs it to a receiver both get a clearance.
Not that hard.

Assuming St. Kilda improve in 2026 and beyond as many of us expect them to, NWM will receive much more attention than he has historically received (which has been minimal). Let's see how he copes with the attention.
No where near as much as a dangerous midfielder who pushes forward. And you think no work gets put into these blokes.![]()
?? Is the Saints fan saying that two players get credited with a clearance from the same stoppage? Not hard. But wrong. A clearance is the first possession in a chain that clears stoppage. Stop digging deeper.

Clubs are happy to have teams chip it to free players across their D50.
NWM had an amazing year in the loose HBF role and then a strong 6 weeks when moved into the midfield.
Daicos has had a strong 3 seasons playing as the Pies main midfielder.
Rather than just being wrong. They're now making the very dubious claim that an alternative stats company to Champion Data that doesn't collect the AFL stats that everyone discusses has a different definition of a clearance to what everyone else uses and discusses ...?? AFL footy.Seriously?
What have you been watching for the last 15 years.

Considering they're raving about NWM's aerial game, I suspect they also use a different definition for a mark ...
AFL footy.
Have a look at who is taking the most marks per game in 2025, it is the defenders
Clubs are happy for teams to chip chip across their D50, and so guys like Whitfield, Ash, Salem, Haynes, Lloyd, Stewart, Short, Sheezel and Zorko are the leading markers.
NWM has proven himself a great loose HBF who gets almost 20% of his disposals via kick-ins or frees.
Next evolution for NWM is if he can become a great midfielder for more than 6 weeks, Nic made that leap back in 2023.
But keep up your laughable claim that NWM doesn't get more soft outside ball.
They don't ignore them. It's just that tagging comes at a cost to your structure and it's also harder to tag someone on the outside - so you're damaging your structure with less impact on the opposition - therefore they get tagged less and less closely.Sorry still in shock that AFL coaches ignore players like Josh Daicos NWM and Tom Sterwart.

They position to cut off outlets. If applying a hard tag, you have no control of their positioning, so they're not part of a structure.Teams structures generally include a defensive half forward.
