Racked up 35 possies in a game that was 20 minutes shorter then a home and away match.
Tonight he depicted that he deserved the captaincy. Stood up when it got hot and when we needed a leader most.
Fantastic second and even better last Qtr.
His pressure around the ball and ability to create stoppages around our forward line was textbook stuff.
He was one of the main culprits who flew the flag when Kruez got that heavy knock from that absolute mongrel Brown, and I loved every minute of it.

Inject a little dose of Walker and Judd back into that midfield with Stevens at full fitness and who knows what could happen..

played well all night, showed why he has the respect of all his team mates, cant wait to see how he plays with a few more games under his belt and with the number two tagger on him. hopefully kept the boys positive when he spoke to them after the game, thats what we need to see more of tho, leadership. i was also happy to see him show brownie what he thought about the dirty hit

I was at the game tonight with a mate who is a mad blues fan and I was amazed at just how good this guy was. It seemed like Stevens orchestrated nearly every foray up forward. IMO he wasn't just Carlton's best, he was BOG. I can understand why you guys made Judd captain, but based on tonight's performance, both as a leader and in terms of performance, I think Stevens would have been just as good a choice.

was good, but still hearing things internally that he isnt leadership material. hard to accept externally, but there must be something to it.

Huh?? 35 possessions, led by example and only his second game since a major spinal operation, and he isnt leadership material???
He wasnt simply "good" IMO Stevens was he BOG last night, he was Carltons "rock" when the ship needed steadying. Surely thats captain material! :thumbsu:

Oh, and if you're still hearing voices I suggest you up your medication!

2nd game back.... and thought he was good, definitely showed a lot of the leadership qualitys we know he has.

admired his confidence to have a shot at goal from outside 50 just before the final siren.

and also admired him giving the boys a bit of a rev up after the game

As good as he was, he spent very little time near an opponent.

Pretty sure he played on either Cassisi or Salopek last week (thinking the former), and they ended up with some pretty impressive stats too.

Any idea who was assigned to him?

Stevo is a gun, I can't stand the critizism he cops for being an 'outside' player, you need players like this even if he is, I think we see Stevo going in very hard at times, he sets a great example for our youngsters. Fev was another one that flew the flag all game, kicking wasn't working so well but his attack on the footy was superb. Juddy would have taken alot of positives out of last night no doubt.

Lazy 17 touches in the final quarter and hopefully it was an educated spray he gave the group on the ground after the game.
I doubt Judd will do the same if Carlton ever in a similar position in the H and A, as long as he going ok he will be happy. Great Player but not a club leader.

Judd may have the C next to his name, but Stevens is your clubs leader. Like Cousins was at WCE.

Soft? Does anyone else see how Stevo reads the pill off the ruck contest? Its second to none, he comes flying past the ruckman, gets hands on the pill, but as our midfield is lacking stoppage structure, there is a wall infront of him and he looses control of the ball. He is possibly one of the best stoppage players in the compitition when it comes to reading the ball off the hands. Its amazing.

Stevens, for mine, was BOG - at least for the Blues.

He ran the game out brilliantly and was consistent all game.

Very impressive for a 2nd game back from spending nearly a year on the sidelines after a serious neck injury - his form is as if he never was injured in the first place.

With more help around him I have no doubt that he will have a great year in the middle.

Tell you what, I have absolutely no problem with the fact that Juddy was named captain, but if they went for Stevens instead I would be just as happy, because in my eyes, he is just as capable to fill the role required. He is an on field leader, and I'm glad that he dons the Navy Blue.

Kudos to him on a fantastic game, and I look forward to him keeping it up heading into the regular season.

Well done Nick :thumbsu:
