Stab at a starting line-up...

B: Randall, Humphries
HB: Duffin, Grierson, Gibson
C: Ashmore, Kearney, Elisha King
HF: Riddell, Garner, Gillespie-Jones
F: Hope, Bateman
R: Emma King, Stanton, Bruton
I/C: Abbatangelo, Drennan, Hardiman, Trend, too hard to guess the 5th

Reality is they'll probably want a bigger body like Gibbo in at the centre bounce, but for the rest of the time I think that's the 16 we want to build around. Haven't heard anything new about injuries so I suppose we should have 29 of 30 players to pick from, with just Smith out of action for now.

Something else worth considering: North Hobart and Drummoyne ovals are by far and away the two smallest AFLW venues in terms of playing surface (even though you hear more about Norwood in that regard). It'd be worrying if we were playing against the 2018 Carlton cloggers this weekend, but Harford would intuitively feel under pressure to avoid such a style so hopefully it can be a reasonably free-flowing game of football.

North Melbourne captain Emma Kearney has revealed she asked the Kangaroos to poach her before the start of her final season with the Western Bulldogs.

Kearney won the AFLW best-and-fairest, earned All-Australian honours and starred in the Dogs’ premiership last year before telling the club a week after the Grand Final that she was off to North.

The AFL industry has long struggled with the idea that players can stay committed to one jumper when they have secretly agreed to play elsewhere.

But Kearney’s mature approach helped her piece together a decorated season.

“I was really disappointed when North didn’t get an AFLW licence initially, because they’d done a mountain of work for my VFL club, Melbourne Uni, and were super genuine about women’s footy,” Kearney told the Herald Sun.

“I thought they deserved one and was really disappointed they didn’t get one.

“As soon as (North) got announced as having a licence I contacted (football boss) Laura Kane and said, ‘Once you’re allowed to start poaching players I’ll put my hand up to play there’.

Outstanding :thumbsu:

My niece went to the open training, said unlike the lads, they spent a fair amount of time chatting with the people that came down to watch them after training and spent a lot of time talking about things other than themselves or footy which is good to see them getting involved with the supporters.

Also, according to https://womens.afl/news/15626/around-the-clubs-latest-news-ahead-of-round-one, she chose as her intro music at the season launch Florence + The Machine's "Dog Days are Over".

Outstanding.

That's good re the AFLW players but sells our AFL players short. North Melbourne training is typically one of the most open in the league, players are usually very accessible to kids and supporters.

Our players are good and comparatively accessible among AFL clubs. Completely understandable, given the relative newness of this competition and need to build a base the men already enjoy, but the fan interaction from the women the other day was next level.

I took today off so took the opportunity to go down to Arden St and sign up. Apparently there's 3,000 odd AFLW members which they seemed pretty happy about. Also the men's membership packages were delayed but hopefully should be going out next week.
I freaked out a little after seeing 30 bucks gone from my account this morning but the club was just catching up to 4 months of lateness (4 months huh). Still I'm excited.

Wasn't really a criticism, nobody expects players to sit out there for 20 minutes talking to you after training. It was just an observation. She did say the country boys do tend to spend a lot more time with supporters after training, guys like Ziebs and Cunnington also have a lot more time for the kids than a lot of the city lads. No dodgeball pun. :stern look

We can't take it for granted, some clubs you can't even get an autograph without forking money over. I don't think any of our supporters feel hard done by for access.

Jumped on the $50 to be a foundation member last night, club took my money but absolutely no acknowledgement of a membership or anything. No email, just a paid invoice on my account. What is going on with our membership department? I don't even know if I am a member as the invoice simply says "AFLW contribution"

Are you sure you did the membership? The club has also been pushing an AFLW contribution fund with entries into a car draw.
