Interesting AFL blocked the Shield final at the Adelaide Oval.

No mention that Football for decades started in late March early April - so we've pushed into their season no less.

The AFL's justification?

Protecting the ground's surface and player safety. LMAO

The AFL clearly haven't been paying much attention to the surface of Marvel after concerts and University graduations.

Hypocrites

Adelaide Oval's management is a joint venture between the SACA and SANFL - and they gave the AFL rights to the ground from March 15 onwards, so the AFL is entitled to block them.

It would have meant re-installing the drop-in pitch, playing cricket on it two days later, then pulling it out once the final finished, and then NMFC play on it two days after that. The centre square for our game would have been strips of grass that had been down for about 24 hours - and I don't think that's in anyone's interests.

And it's been a long time since a Shield Final was played at one of the major stadiums - the last few have been at the WACA, but before then it was Allan Border Field, Junction Oval, Traeger Park, Glenelg Oval and Manuka Oval.

I don't think that's how it works, they can grow a square and drop it in, in the exact process that they drop a pitch in. Im sure this is what would've been tabled to the AFL. The surface would be structurally sound. The WACA is WA's home ground so that's irrelevant, they haven't played a game at optus all year.

Rocchiccioli with another 5 in the first innings against the Vic's, now sitting second on the wickets tally. Easily the best spinner in the country after Lyon.

If they were picking a touring squad to the sub-continent today, you would definitely pick him. I would think he is sitting behind Kuhnemann in the pecking order but it's a while yet before the number 1 role will be up for grabs.

Kuhnemann is good over there but not really a threat here, can't remember the last time a left arm orthodox bowler was the only spinner bowling for Australia in Australia and don't think its a possibility.

I think you'd have to go all the way back to Ray Bright, and he only played 25 tests. We haven't had many at all over the journey, and the ones that made it to Shield level like Doherty, Beer, O'Keefe, and Jon Holland just weren't very good. Kuhnemann seems a class above that lot.

Lyon will definitely go through until the end of The Ashes at a minimum, so it will be a while yet before there is a vacancy.

Kuhnemanns averaging 40 for the year in shield cricket, he's not great in Australian conditions and never has been. He bowls really well in the sub continent and was lucky the lankans had a heap of rightys. Hopefully we continue to pick horses for courses.

almost looks like SA have chosen to play QLD with the way they gave away first innings bonust batting points to QLD

Seems strange that the team finishing second on the Shield table had one less win than the team finishing third.

Bonus points just throw things out of whack. It should be just straight points - 10 points for a one day win or a first innings win, 20 points for an outright.

You still may get the odd occasion where a team who might win a couple of games outright finishes higher, but at least you don't need a calculator.
