Just released by the AFL - no surprise I guess that there are no Geelong players in it.

Doesn't really worry me.

We all know we could have guys like Corey and Ablett rack up 30 touches a week with the rubbish uncontested and cheap footy played by the likes of Bowden.

It's just a shame that the selectors fall for the stat stuffers.

I agree with you Phat, but really, what more could Milburn have done!
He gives stats, hardness, skills, whatever you want!
Surely better than Bowden.

It is funny to see that in the top 10 possies for the year, most are form clubs that didn't make the 8.

Problem with blokes like Milburn and Mooney is that they don't strictly hold down a position, so it's hard to name them when the AA team, theoretically, is made up of the best player in any given position.
Whether that is relevant these days or not is a point for another debate.
Dasher has been terrific all year, but playing a multitude of roles in defence, midfield and attack, and we've probably noticed as well his improvement in leadership skills, which I don't think is an AA criteria but has impacted greatly on his on-field presence.

It shows how even our team is. The AA is mainly based on stats you'd have to say, and because we got guys contributing across the board, its hard to star. Milburn couldnt have done much more though i agree.

I agree about the AA team. Absolutely disgraceful. Hodge and Croad lead a defence that gave up 800 points more than league leaders Adelaide and get CHB and HBF positions. Does that make any sense?? Gotta feel for Tredrea too, his season was statistically very impressive with 6 bags of 5 or more goals..

The side picked by knowledgeable football fans would slaughter the one picked by those feeble-minded commentators. Rutten > Scarlett? Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

I still think Scarlett's had a pretty good year. Much attention was made out of 2 games (v Melbourne in round 3, v Sydney later on) but apart from that he's been great. Problem is early on he was used to put out fires on other players (v Port the first time, v Carlton later on) so he's finished on a guy who's kicked 4 goals, even though he'd conceded hardly any.

The main problem I have with the side is the morons who select it decide after round 14 who will be chosen and it doesn't change.

What people don't seem to understand is what the All-Australian team stands for. It doesn't necessarily indicate that one player is 'greater' or 'a better footballer' than another; simply indicates that he has had a better season than others (whether or not they have is another thing altogether. Although in this case, I'd certainly suggest Rutten had a better 2005 than Matty did).

Pavlich won the gig at CHF on his season form. Had it been on his value or rating in the greater scheme of things, I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Brown or Tredrea given the nod instead.

Exactly, Scarlett has been great for the past 8 weeks, but before that was fairly average. He was unlucky in a few instances, and perhaps he is being judged too harshly due to his standing in the game, but I don't think he deserved to be AA this year.
