With respect to St Kilda, we won't be proving much even if we do win..
Or are we going to have a season of celebrating beating bottom teams while claiming we were close to the better teams if not for x,y,z?
Sando keeps talking about "if just a few things went our way" - so maybe we are..

I just hope a few wins, be it over weaker sides, will give us a bit of confidence that we are missing.

Really hope Pup can stick it up everyone he has played a lot more good footy for the AFC than anyone will give him credit for. Another north moment would be delicious.

If he must play, then I hope he's down back or spends a bit of time around the stoppages. I'd actually be happy that he's selected if he's played in his natural position. As a defensive forward he's heading for certain delisting. So please sando, you picked him, give him a chance.

Anyone notice how Amer seems to just go against what the majority of the board think. When people were happy with the club, he was bagging it, and now that the majority are unhappy, he is praising it. Quality troll.

Isnt he?
Would he be in the side if he couldnt be a stopper?

My answer is no...
Your answer is wrong. He wouldn't be the club's universal choice for Captain (players, coaches, ...) if he wasn't much, much more than just an "average tagger".

Agree would be nice to see him around the stoppages he has been playing midfield in the reserves and looked good.

Has to be a great option for sub as well can't believe he isn't used more often in the vest.

We had quality options to bring in Douglas, Laird, Reilly (cough), Jenkins that could add to the side. This week nobody to bring back and the only real obvious omission was Petrenko and I like he gets 2 cracks at it.
This is a good point, except for the Petrenko part. Both Martin and Lyons would have reason to feel aggrieved at their dropping versus Pets' retention. I'd rather see Martin in the forward line than Pets particularly. If Reilly continues to underwhelm this week, he's who I'd drop for CEY. If Thommo plays injured and produces the same results he did while playing injured last year...well, pitchforks at the ready.

0 and 4 will be the mother of all f... ups and pretty much condemn Sando and Co. to the ranks of pretenders...
and the heat will rise on the club...

strap in, there's gonna be a little turbulence up ahead me thinks...

Hartigan, Crouch, Grigg, Laird 2 and Brown 2 have played a total of 4 afl games at Etihad, perhaps the selectors didn't want to add to this list by including CEY on a ground we've only won 2 of our last 14 games at.

Better to go with the guys that are experienced at losing at etihad.

I don't think those players not having played at etihad would come into it, conversely you could say at least they don't have a losing record at etihad like the rest of the players.

Rewind to when Sando got appt, I mentioned on this board that a Geelong Senior Official told me that the primary reason why Sando didn't get the Cats job was because the club had concerns that the type of relationship that he has with players would impact dis decision making on players, well at the time many on this board attacked my comments and it's interesting that some if the same folk are now bagging Sando

Certainly interesting isnt it. He finally made the obvious call on Porps but in regards to underperformed senior guys hes yet to really have the guts to pull the trigger.

Our poor players have been different each week, so in a sense I see the reasoning behind giving Pets a second crack but he will play as a small forward which is the role he is least suited to. If he is to play shove him in the middle where he looked pretty good at SANFL level or down back and push Laird further up the ground.

Good to see Grigg and Brown still in the side

Hey Vader I know it was a different era, but what would you have said about greg williams?

Short, slow, unfit...should also have had 3 brownlows to his name.

I know its a different day and age, but skill trumps fitness every single day of the week.
Short & slow, definitely. Unfit? Not sure - probably by modern standards. The modern equivalent would be Sam Mitchell.

Diesel & Mitchell are amongst the few with those characteristics who make it, because their other attributes are truly outstanding - elite by any standard. Lyons isn't even above average at any other attribute, let alone elite.
