Was hoping to see the potentials of SS and DB, but maybe they'll be used against us.
Hope you cane em tonight!

Meto.

Not happy Jan!

Who to leave out? L Brown, Lockyer, Cook.

Should have enough options in the backline without Brown or Lockyer, i.e,:

O'Brien N Brown Shaw
Clarke Presti Cox

Also have Corrie, Maxwell, Clarke, Reid as options.

Cook might get a run with role, but we could cover him with a Corrie or Maxwell - or better still a Beams or Sidebottom.

No better opportunity to trial McCaffer than now with Medhurst injured.

We know we lack quick hands in the centre and Beams has displayed poise if pre-season reports are correct.

Too conservative by far. I don't see that we are better placed to win this game by the inclusion of L Brown, Lockyer or Cook. Lockyer is still a good player, but I've no doubt the combo of Mccaffer, Beams and Sidebottom would easily compensate for the 3 I mentioned.

Those with Beams and Steele not playing will that means Finally Stanley will go into the Middle?

Disappointing but hey what can you do, at least we have depth now which is great.

Also its the first game of the nab cup, there is still another 3 games and 5 weeks until the season starts, so they have plenty of chance to still play round 1

I would like to see them play and Just not read about them from playing from somewhere outside of Bourke

What you said was you were not suprised by Malthouse leaving out our recent draftees because he often does this. Your contention is bunk because all Malty had ever done is run out sides made up of youngsters and fringe players because winning these matches has always been a low priority, hence our poor record in past pre season competitions.

In prevoius years if a youngster hasn't played it's becuse he wasn't fit and the players you've mentioned were not ie McCarthy was coming of a season with OP so he was brought along slowly.

I'l deal with the facts thanks, and just the facts.

sorry chip but I have to agree with woodie. This same topic has come up over the last few years. Mick has left out first year players who everyone wanted to see and people have posted about there dissapointment. He plays lots of fringe players but very few first years. Its an opportunity to have a look at players with question marks against good players with very little at stake. And by the way i thought woodie provided a fair bit of evidence in his argument. Even if you dont agree I think its a little harsh for you to suggest there is not fact to it.

You do make a Good Point and You do have some Backing up for it. Those Thomas was the only 1 in 06 when we beat the Saints in OVERTIME.

But why would you play Fringe players ahead of Youngsters. Would Travel to Perth have something to do about it?

Its quite simple really. As I stated in the previous post this is a chance for mick to have a look at players who need to prove themselves and its against better opposition than they will get in vfl games. The first year players have alot of time on their side. Guys like Cook, Stanley, Toovey etc etc dont. If they dont step up this year they are out. If they dont give them an opportunity in the pre-season to push for senior selection in the season proper then it might be all over for them. I know everyone is looking forward to seeing these kids but stay calm they will get there chance like everyone else. All we need is a little patience...........

Fair Enough, As you say they are playing for More then the New Kids.

Those would be still good to see them play:( and then why did they get selected if they where not going to play?

look at the whinge already and its a pre season cup match.

Be excited about seeing some of our second and third year players as someone else mentioned.

Anthony, Wellingham, Reid, Dawes, Brown, Wood and Clarke and a few others.

No use showing off our joint 2009 brownlow winners of beams and sidebottom too early. Theres plenty of chances to come
Its amazing isn't it?
You'd think we just got flogged by 100points playing the bottom team.

I think we now have the biggest dummy spitters in the AFL

because you pick a squad of 29 so 3 will always miss out. Mick would be sending a message to the 3 that they have really impressed uring the pre-season and that if they keep doing what they are doing they wil get their chance. Its quite common and I think you will find that many other clubs will do this as well.

You are being a bit of a goose, Chip Douglas. If you look at my post, I siad he often leaves out first year players, which is exactly what he did again this year.

I am not saying he leaves out "fringe" players or "young" players to the extent that they are not first year draftees. I know he plays fringe players and young players, but just very rarely first year draftees, which is what I am saying.

Take a chill pill. Surely people can express critical views of selections. Being labelled a whinger / dummy spitter is a bit rank, holier than thou. If you don't ever hold opinions at variance with the club, then there's something wrong with you. When's the right time for debate? Ever or never?

Haven't time to read this whole thread, as am waiting to be burnt to death  but am just very excited to see Shaw and Didak playing again. It's a shame about the newbies, but is there a chance that Stanley and Barham will get a go?

And I can't wait to see how Johnno's going, and to see if Dale has progressed, or if Marty ventures into the middle. How can you not all be thrilled?

No, BArham hasn't been named either. It is a shame, I would have liked to see what he could do on Subi with his speed and fitness...

Stanley SHOULD get some good time in the middle.

They'll see some game time in the next few weeks of the competition be it nab cup or nab series.

Whilst I'm excited to watch these young players I'm more excited about the prospect of Rus coming back in.

However, not at full back.

Cannot wait, I think if he is up and running he can give us an extra edge and dimension to season 2009.

Presti is he BACK?
Wood as our number ruck
Fraser will a full preseason have teh effect i have always dreamt
Anthony was last year a flash in the pan?

Yes, even me

The difference is your criticism here is of other people's criticical views, not an expression of your own on the subject of selections. Play the ball, not the man is my advice and a bit less of the caricatures.

There's a difference between criticism and being a whinger. To label people dummy-spitters is BS.

am interested to see how Corrie goes and of course Sanley, Reid etc. Lots to get excited about. Is Swift playing for West Coast?
