Warnock's Gone, so who should we take with our no.1 pick? (Updated Poll)

After Warnock has chosen the Blues, very curious to see if this has impacted any of our No.1 pick preference.

I guess the main question is, What's more important, a forward or a ruckman?

Re: No warnock MUST get Naitanui

If Melbourne pick him, it will be full-steam ahead for over 10 years.

If Melbourne don't pick him, expect a derailment within 1 season.

If we pick him and he doesn't play 10 years at Melbourne, I'll be coming for you.

:p

what will be really interesting is if watts nominates, and melbourne pick up naita, westcoast will pick up rich. freo will not pick up watts, im not sure that port will take watts either. watts could find himself in the situation where he thought he was going number one, but slides down to number 5.

surely melbourne will take watts though.

for what its worth guys, i would much prefer to see melbourne give us pick 19 and them take warnie, rather than carlton getting him, im sick of carltons bullshit, the "we're carlton so we can rape and pillige any oppostion team we like" attitude. its amazing that even after everything they went through, they still have ended up with the same attitude

Not sure what all the hype is about Warnock anyway. What sort of moral would you get bringing in a someone who has played **** all games and paying him 1mill on the basis that he might be a good ruckman.

Good luck to whoever gets him but don't complain when more experienced players jack it in and head elsewhere.

Re: No warnock MUST get Naitanui

It's key forwards that win Premierships for teams not ruckmen.
I disagree. You can't pin point specifics like this.

Colllingwood 2002/3 may have delivered Buckley his flag if we had someone to be first ruck to Josh's second. Sydney makeshifted in 2005 with Ball (by a bees penis!), but usually premiers have strong rucks (usually a combo).

The way I see it is you should go best available. From what I have seen, that is Naitanui. That he has marketing benefits akin to Thomas for us, or Franklin for the Hawks is merely a plus. It shouldn't affect your decision making, but then scratching for attention and money isn't something the Pies have to worry about.

Naitanui can play forward, back and ruck. Despite some degree of pessimism about him being an athlete, he is actually a genuine footballer. His slight lack of height is more than compensated for by his leap. His tap work is instinctive and sublime.

Rich is a sure fire bet. An Cooney / Hodge crossbreed. I'd take hm ahead of Watts, but then my club needs a Rich like Fevola needs an AA meeting!

Re: No warnock MUST get Naitanui

Ottens in the 2007 Preliminary Final was instrumental. Cox in the 2006 Grand Final (and entire season) was magnificent. Ball also played some key roles in the Swans 2005 Premiership (his hitouts to Nick Davis in the SF) and his hitout to Schneider late in the GF. Lade and Brogan were a strong force in 2004. Keating was reknown as Brisbanes Mr September.

Ruckmen are important, even if they don't win games off their own boot.

My god, after seeing Riewoldt's game tonight, i don't see how we could pass on Watts this year. He has the wraps of being the next Nick Riewoldt, and if he played even half aswell as Nick did tonight then he would still be twice as valuable than a Ruckman ever would be.

Key Forwards are the key to success. (Either that or having a midfield like the Weagles did)

I still vote for watts.

The way i figure it since we are going to be so crap for the next 5 years he will have heaps of time to work on the one part of the game he will need most of stepping up from 18's to the afl......strength.

I think for games against teams like geelong and hawthorn we could prehaps even set up a bench press in the goal square for him to get in some extra reps while he waits for one of our 5 foward 50 entries for the game.

Re: No warnock MUST get Naitanui

Guys,
Warnock to Carlton is not a done deal if Freo doesn't come tp trade terms with the Blues. Dees have the upper hand because we have pick # 1. In any case, I'm not sure now if we would now want to pursue a guy would doesn't want to play for us anyway.

So, the bottom line is that Freo will decide who he plays with not Robbie Warnock.

he will get there

If we take Naitanui at number one then i will seriously consider changing teams to go for GC.

Rich looks like a readymade superstar so id be happy with him. might add some grunt into the midfield.

having said that,
my vote is for Wattsy purely because im sick of going to the game and having us work so hard to get it down to our forward line and have it rebound back out straight away because we have no big target to kick it to.
The kid can definetly play. I've seen it first hand.

Re: No warnock MUST get Naitanui

I want him to produce something outrageous today. In doing this, Schwab will not let the marketing opporunity pass, and the recruiters will look past Watts and see that Nait is optimal selection.

All aboard the double N-train :D
fwiw he was ordinary today. i thought the swans coach kept him in defence for far too long though. looks far more comfortable on ball. if anyone watched him for the first time today they would be wondering what all the fuss is about

Only saw a few highlights but he looked very pansy-ish when there was a bit of a scuffle. Didn't want to get in there at all just stood there and watched, could have at least pulled the blokes that were mauling his teammate off him.

BTW I'm not saying don't draft him because of that but it's just something that caught my eye.

FWIW, I caught some footage during half time on the VFL, and he was getting right in there and doing just that.

Re: No warnock MUST get Naitanui

Maybe I am just a bit peeved with Carlton/Freo atm and want to take Naita to get back at the Freo smartasses - who knows.[/quote]

freo are not the ones who nominated carlton, it was warnock!! blame your club not ours
