Pretty certain Pfeiffer will be one.

Reckon the club might hold off on the other one until they have to make a decision (if they have to make a decision)

I read something about the AFL allowing rookies to play after half way through the season, but don't know if that actually went forward. Does anyone know?

I think we will keep the second nominated rookie open like last year and put the heat on the rookies to deserve a spot.

I believe all of them can play in the second half of the year without a player being placed on the LTI.

That's what a North supporter posted on the draft board.

Ratten made it pretty clear in his post pre-season draft interview that Pfeiffer will be a nominated rookie and therefore get his chance to prove himslelf this year or I see it being over for him. The other spot if taken will go to the player pushing the hardest which will probably be Joseph or Ellard.

But other rookies could get a chance (but hopefully not in this instance) if a player also has go to onto the long term injury list.

Pfeiffer's a lock as Ratts said. Be nice to see just how hard the others are willing to work for the other spot. Hopefully AJ or Garlett. :thumbsu:

We're able to have 2 nominated rookies for season 2009:
1. Pfeiffer. 100% certainty.
2. I hope we don't jump the gun too early. I'd like us to leave this open and tell the boys that it'll go to the rookie that works hardest for it. They'll all no doubt be eager to get a chance to represent the Blues so this may end up generating some fairly healthy competition between the remaining rookies.

Sounds the sensible option for what the team needs and he certainly looks like he has been pushing very hard

Only going by the highlights I have seen, he looks like a pretty exciting type. With him, Yarran and Eddie in the forward line, could be a major headache for opposition clubs going forward.
mmmm Im a little less optomistic to be honest.

Sure, the 3 of them plus Fev would be exciting ... but at any given stage - our forward line would only allow for 2 crumbers - and that hasnt really worked all that well for Roos with Cambpell and Thomas.

Anyone seen this Lachie Hill play in the bullants? Ratten said when put under pressure he has been performing well this pre season and taken his game to another level. Any chance he could play AFL?

He's athletic for 191 cm or so - and he's put on 7 kgs of muscle this year.

But he comes across as another one of those athlete types and at 190 odd cms .. he's not a midfielder .. and he's not a KP Player.

Fair enough. Sounds like Edwards and even he hasn't impressed. Probably more hope for our smaller rookies.

But I don't think that is how it works (I stand to be corrected). My understanding is that from the outset we can (but don't have to) nominate one or two rookies as nominated rookies (because we have no veterans) who can play without anyone having to go onto the long term injury list. In the event someone goes on to the long term injury list we can (but don't have to) elevate a rookie for the duration of that player being LTI listed but once the player comes off the LTI the elevated rookie has to go back to being a mere rookie. BUT (and here is the difference from last year, arising as a compensation to the clubs for the talent drain from GC coming in) after round 11 all rookies are available for selection for the rest of the year.

I think I've got this right.

There was another athletic guy not so long ago who was 190cm and went ok in the Blue jumper, number 43 from memory. Didn't set the world alight until mid-career.

Fantastic.

Remember this 191 cm supreme athlete:

Umm.. nope. Who is it? Not having a crack at you btw, I just think the footy world can be too quick to apply the 'tweener label. Truth is there are champions and duds at every size, and class tells in the end. Look at Fev at 192cm - the conventional wisdom would say he's too short for a KPP but he's probably the best lead-up forward in the comp.
