Non-AFL chat thread part 2

Obvious why?

Because the Indian cricket team are so trustworthy ?

Will the player be punished for false accusation of racism ?

obvious ? Siraj whinges to the Umpires, cops expel a row of blokes enjoying the cricket, best cricket for the Summer, no charges laid, witnesses don't support allegations of racist comments. You are much better than that, Dogwatch, don't kill your credibility with that sort of nonsense. That sort of stuff is an insult to, arguably, the most tolerant community on the planet.
No need for me to make out a case. CA have confirmed.

It wasn't the blokes expelled (that seemed uncertain on the day, and was refuted the next) but some other person(s), as yet unidentified.

I hope the blokes wrongly expelled have received an apology from the police and (at least) a full refund from CA.

I know it's only a tiny minority but it's an ugly side of Australia, just like the persistent jeering of Adam Goodes.
Surely we are better than this as a sport loving nation.

R u suggesting that we are the only racist country ? It’s an ugly tiny proportion of every country the media focus on time and time again and ignore than 98% of the non racists.

Indians aren’t racist ? Id suggest they didn’t find the people making he racist comments as they didn’t exist in that circumstance but that’s just my opinion on what I’ve heard and read.

CA are not going to flat out call an Indian a liar and blaming faceless nobodies doesn’t hurt anyone

No I am not suggesting that. However the fact that other countries also have racism doesn't mean we should do nothing about it here.

It’s an ugly tiny proportion of every country the media focus on time and time again and ignore than 98% of the non racists.
No they don't ignore it. There are in fact good stories reported about people reaching across racial and religious divides. You've just got to look a bit harder for them.
Unfortunately those stories don't attract viewers/readers or sell as well as stories of conflict and division. It's the way the market works. When you and I demand and actually read (click on) more of the good stories they'll publish more of them for us.
There are plenty of things wrong with the media but don't blame them for the faults of the consumers.

Indians aren’t racist ?
I'm no expert on India but from what I've read over the years Indians have had their share of racism/sectarian divisions for yonks. They aren't immune. Probably a tiny minority there too, but it has a disproportionate impact when not held in check. And even if they are racists over there it doesn't justify racism here. LOL, schoolyard retort "HE did it too!" - as if that makes it OK.
Id suggest they didn’t find the people making he racist comments as they didn’t exist in that circumstance but that’s just my opinion on what I’ve heard and read.

The ABC version, says

Cricket Australia (CA) launched an investigation after day four.

On Wednesday, CA released an update, saying it had submitted a report to the International Cricket Council into crowd behaviour at the SCG.

"CA confirms that members of the Indian cricket team were subjected to racial abuse (at the SCG)," the organisation's head of integrity and security, Sean Carroll, said in a statement.

"CA's own investigation into the matter remains open, with CCTV footage, ticketing data and interviews with spectators still being analysed in an attempt to locate those responsible.

Under its heading Key Points
  • CA Investigators are still trying to identify those responsible for the racist abuse
  • NSW Police says it has concluded its investigation with no evidence to support any prosecutions
Fox Sport’s account
https://www.foxsports.com.au/cricke...y/news-story/b08503c2cf79d4e417b0f857419c82d2
doesn’t give any further insight into the source of the allegation of racial abuse. It adds that Bumrah and Siraj claim to have been abused in the earlier incident, that there was a separate ICC “Probe” into the earlier incident and pious motherhood statements from BBCI and ICC.

The Sydney Morning Herald account
https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricke...cg-heard-no-racial-abuse-20210111-p56t5t.html
is more interesting because it draws heavily on interviews with 3 Indian spectators, all named, one of whom says he was ejected for defending the 6 ejected. He says

“Maybe he heard it somewhere else, sure, but it just wasn’t from the guys behind us. The problem is he can’t prove what he heard, we can’t prove that he didn't hear it. It’s a s**t situation, especially for the guys who got kicked out.”

‘….. was seated close behind where Siraj was positioned in the field for much of Saturday's play and said that, while spectators around him directed foul language towards Siraj, he did not hear any racist abuse."

"The group of drunk guys behind was heckling Siraj using foul language ... lots of f-words and c-words," ….. said. "I myself didn't hear any racial abuse but there was plenty of abusive language used.’

and

‘….. said he was also sitting in the area behind Siraj and "the heckling was consistent and on every ball during which Siraj was anywhere near us.

"The guys behind me were vocal when the Aussies were on the field too but the words were largely amusing and positive," he said. "But when it came to Siraj, the chanting was uglier and had swear words at times. I did not pick up racial abuse from the lot behind me, but offensive language, certainly." ‘

CA’s investigation is still ongoing, the article says nothing about why CA concluded that racial abuse had occurred, merely that Carroll says so (before the investigation is complete !). The Police found nothing. There would have been hundreds of mobile phones, CCTV, security staff, ordinary spectators at the ground on both days. 2 investigations and a ‘Probe’. Nothing, except Carroll’s statement. At the time of your “obvious”, all you had was Siraj’s complaint. Despite the ABC headline, that’s all you still have, the uncorroborated accusation.

The 3 journalists who wrote the SMH account, all named in the article, wrote “While …… agreed something racist in nature could have been said elsewhere in the ground or during Saturday's play…”

That’s what you should have written

So I’ve got to look harder to find the good stories but have the bad plastered all over the place day on day out? Sounds fair
I’ve stopped reading the papers and watching the news due to the continued nagar I’ve slant of them but you think Pepe want to hear these stories? You think we are happy to be told time and time again we are awful racist people? Yeah ok

Not a single person in that whole area was found to have heard any racial abuse NOT ONE. There is not a single live of evidence suggesting there was in that occasion but CA put out a report and that’s gospel?

You may find it a “schoolyard” attitude but id suggest that you receive a very similar response to what you yourself put out.

But keep blaming the vast majority for the tiny minority and encouraging the continued demonisation of our countries people as the awful white sub humans we are.

For someone who keeps complaining about getting misquoted here you do a pretty good job at it yourself.

Have a great day.

Thanks for the advice DM.

LOL Snowing at Wrigley Field at the moment, 2pm Sunday in Melbourne; 9pm Saturday in Chicago. I'll bet that my brother who moved to Phoenix a few weeks ago is happy he's not back in Illinois.

I attended a scientific conference in Chicago a few years back, in late November. The conference talks started at 8:30, but one of the “extra-curricular” activites was a group run by the lakeside at about 6:30 one morning, before the conference began for the day. Being a keen runner, I decided to participate; however, when I had left for Chicago the weather forecast had been for temperatures around 15 degrees, so I had only brought a short-sleeved t-shirt to run in. The morning of the run it was about 1 degree and sleeting, with a roaring wind coming right off the lake. But, I thought, “1 degree is still positive; I’ve run in much colder temperatures than that before; I’ll be fine!”

It was the coldest I have ever felt in my entire life. When I got back to the hotel room it took nearly half an hour for me to get the feeling back in my arms, and even then they were still tingling.

(Love Chicago as a city, though.)

LOL How would you like to live in that type of winter weather for 23 years and after a 25 year break in Melbourne's balmy winter weather go back for another 17 years?

This was our home 10 years ago tomorrow, Feb 1, 2011 after shoveling. I posted these pics back then on here.

The snow was piled up so high against the garage door, that I had to shovel my way out of the front door to get to the driveway to shovel that. Luckily my neighbour and his son shoveled the end of the driveway near the street where the street snow plow had deposited about three feet of snow. Our snow blowers couldn't cope with the depth so we had to shovel then use the snow blowers. Good times.

This was my nephew's backyard about fiftteen miles away.

Ha! I had never even seen snow---close up or from a distance---until I was in my 20s. When I was a teenager, I used to look at pictures like that and think, "It's so beautiful… wouldn't it be wonderful to live somewhere where it snows!" Having now lived in a couple of places that get decent snowfalls, my wonder at the beauty of fresh snow has become tempered by the thought in the back of my head of how many weeks I'm going to have to attach ice cleats to my shoes to get around town without falling over like an idiot, once it finally starts melting…

I used to love going back home every other Christmas and hope it would snow. I even have a pic of myself in 1977 shoveling snow on my first trip back. I even had a smile on my face. Of course, I knew that I'd be gone in a couple of weeks back to summer in Melbourne.

So is anyone actually watching this tennis? I normally have it on in the background but I have no enthusiasm for it this year.
Ditto. Can't get enthused. I wonder if they'll release the TV ratings.

Halep is very noisy. Like how she shrieks for 10 or more shots in long rally but nets the last one and stops it mid shriek. Should stamp out this crap

Jeff Kennett commenting on Crown Casino possibly closing saying it took 'them' so long to rebuild this state ....... umm apart from the schools, railway lines, councils, hospitals etc. Would've been handy having Fairfield there now

My brother was depicted in a movie that was on TV today. I had seen it before but had not realised that he had been in it. He was portrayed by an actor who has been in a number of movies and TV shows. My brother has also been on a few TV cable news shows including CNN. So I kinda guess that we are a show biz family with me having been on radio and TV and my brother being portrayed in a movie and on TV. Almost forgot... my sister-in-law has been in a couple of locally made(Illinois) movies and is even in the IMDB. Autographs by written request only. :)

What was the movie? I have a cousin who was a receptionist on Doc Martin, my closest claim to fame :)
