Some weird stuff in this article… especially the stupid club CEO(s)/Chairman(s) that have actually said the WA teams travelling at minimum 11x a year wasn’t a disadvantage because up to 12 people from a WA club can fly business class

Also the ‘competitive balance review’ that’s apparently taking place at the moment and the fight North are taking up against Free Agency seems like a pretty fruitless exercise. Would love to know if North were a non-Victorian team not named GWS or Gold Coast would a competitive balance review even be taking place?

Also lol at Norf acting like it’s just a brand new thing that’s popped up just to confound them despite the fact that Free Agency has always been a broken bias system. Have always thought a simple solution would/would’ve been for the top 4 from the previous season just to be unable to sign any free agents and the rest of the previous season’s top 8 be limited to only be able to sign one free agent, that way it at least attempts to filter the talent through more clubs that actually need more talent and the AFL could keep their charade of equalisation going.

The AFL really shat the bed against the AFLPA threatening restraint of trade back when they pushed for Free Agency and then needing to fill the month of October with AFL ‘news’ forced it to become the stupid thing it is now.

That whole idea of participation awards, and yes, that's what they are, is just gross. Giving out accolades for a winning season?? Give me a spell.

VFL is addicted at the moment to turning the game into pure 'Entertainment'.

They are ramping up 'event' rounds to add to the theatre of the game every year.

Look at last few years, courtesy of Covid we get the fixture 'reviewed' and updated mid year to suit the VFL whim.

The 'competitive balance review' is complete window dressing and an optical exercise to look like they appeasing the interstate clubs, that is all.

I know this sounds a bit tin-foil hat - but you can already see how in recent years umpiring has become so dubious and at every attempt they are trying to ensure matches get as close as possible because ultimately this helps the ratings and keeps the losing teams fans going "gee we were close". Collingwood the major beneficiary of this last year winning so many close games.

Give it 5~ years and the AFL game will be so bastardised it will be a total circus and even more rigged than it is now to ensure manufactured pre determined results the VFL want. End up being a football version of WWE.

He also sat out of football for a year because he wanted to be in Perth with family support rather than stay at GWS after the trade fell through, so he’d clearly been having issues from a young age, sadly he couldn’t get on top of them.
